Still going to Kim after 4 years! Chopped off quite a bit of hair this weekend… I knew I could trust her and and she did an amazing job. Yay!

If I could give this place zero stars I would. I thought long and hard whether I should leave a review or just never come back, but every time I look in the mirror I am reminded of this horrible experience. I used to be a regular and long term customer at this salon. I always felt the cuts were rushed and there was never full care taken into them but they were reasonably priced. For instance, I would always go home and recut my bangs as they would never be even or the entire cut itself wouldn’t be cut straight. But this past summer I question why I kept giving Kim a chance as I didn’t have one bad hair cut but two! Last year I went to get my hair cut with Kim and she suggested a bob to the chin. She actually ended up cutting it to my cheek bones (my hair used to be half way down my back with multiple layer), it was cut so sloppy that it bounced up at the front past the length at the bottom. It also was cut past my hair line so I had to shave my neck for over a month. the cut literally looked like someone put a pot over my head and cut my hair, as there was no style and actually it was cut 4 inched past my chin where she said that she was going to cut my hair up to. After a couple of weeks of living with the cut I actually ended up cutting my hair myself to make it look decent and have some style.
I have no idea why after this experience I went back but I wanted to give her a second chance. I very honestly and politely told her that I didn’t like the bob and I wanted my layers back and I wanted to grow it to the length it used to be. Rather than listening to me Kim gave me layers in the front and a bob in the back (now that the cut is growing out I realize it was cut in a V). She she then styled my hair like 60 year old women wear their hair and set me off my way. It was only when I got homeI realized what she had done, the cut was hideous a cut at super cuts would have been better.
When I returned to get my hair fixed the other stylist, Melissa, was extremely rude towards me as if they were doing me a favour by recutting my hair and Kim was defensive. She added some layers but basically my hair is a mess it is super short in the top and extremely heavy towards the bottom. it finally has grown out enough that I can get it fixed but it’ll still be short.
I always questioned Kim’s knowledge of hair but now I question if she is even licensed as a professional stylist would not cut hair in the manner that she does. I feel that she’s lazy and perhaps tired as she just wants to get the job done. This is evident when one sees her mirror as it is so dirty one can’t even fully see through it. I for one will never return or recommend the salon. If you have a bob, a very simple hair cut and like blow outs I you may go as it is cheap.
I now realize the saying that you get what you pay for

Went in here to get a haircut and loved the results. No more frizziness, just soft beautiful hair. They were very nice, the place is decorated well, and it was an overall relaxing experience.

Unfortunately, I am not able to leave an actual REVIEW since I’ve been calling this place for TWO days and have left TWO messages in the attempt to MAKE AN APPOINTMENT. I guess the folks at Hair have a boatload of money and aren’t interested in taking on new clients. It’s a shame because after reading the great reviews, I was really looking forward taking my business here.
As it stands, I made an appt today with Karcher (who also has great reviews AND answered their phone!). Within 10 seconds of hanging up the phone, I received an email confirmation of my appt. Yeah, I can get down with that.
Happy for all you chosen ones that make the «cut» of actually getting an appt here. Sorry, but NO place is all THAT.

I had a fantastic experience with Melissa about a month ago! My hair is badly damaged from years or flat ironing and coloring and its very curly. She not only made my hair look better than it ever has, but she gave me some fantastic advice about how to get my hair back to a healthier state. She helped me achieve the color I wanted and listened to me about the length I wanted cut off. I have been to many hair stylists, even ones that charged a lot more money and none have been as knowledgeable and impressive as Melissa. I am looking forward to seeing her again in a few more weeks. You will not find a more professional, pleasant and reasonably priced hair stylist anywhere.

After much research for a new hair salon came across Hair Greenpoint and Iam so glad I did. Had my appointment with Melissa and I couldn’t be happier, she is super pleasant, nice and professional. Went for a balayage and hair cut, she first had a consultation with me to discuss a plan of exactly what I wanted… when I went it for my appointment I got exactly what I wanted. Beyond obsessed with Melissa’s amazing work, love love this place so glad I found them.

I made an appointment at Hair due to the positive Unilocal reviews and proximity to my apartment (I’m lazy). Kim managed the impossible when she lopped off 6 inches of my overgrown mop and gave me a cute short bob that works with my natural curls and texture and is low maintenance – quite a trick! She also freshened up my blonde with a variety of natural highlights and did it all for less than the price she quoted me. Hello!

Kim, you are a genius!
I will plagiarize the other comments saying that I wish I knew you sooner! But now that I do, I’ll be coming back for more! Your are so dedicated, honest and creative. Your consultation is priceless and something that I had never gotten in any hair salon in the city. It is such a pleasure and I know that I’m in good hands. Not to mention how reasonable you are with the price! It’s really touching, because not everyone can afford expensive hair salon and knowing that someone like you is so good and so considerate and understanding in this economy is a treasure!

Today was my third cut by Melissa, and every time I have left, I have felt like this is my best haircut yet. I have thick curly hair which has always been a challenge for many stylists. But Melissa just knows what to do. And since I have been visiting her, all my friends have commented how my hair has never looked better. She also puts in really nice highlights that give my hair a natural sun-​kissed look. And they are artfully applied so that when my hair grows out, I don’t have garish roots showing. I cannot recommend enough!
Melissa is courteous and thoughtful. And not overly chatty. She seems to really be focused on my hair. And good lord, it needs it!
Oh, and I also enjoy the music they play. Bonus points!

Kim has been doing my hair for years and has always done a terrific job. Her highlighting technique grows out so gracefully and her cutting skills are top notch. She has a great eye and gives you a cut that works for your hair type!
The décor of the salon is cozy and fun to visually explore… it mirrors Kim’s great personality and her sense of humor. Definitely make an appointment at Hair if you want yours to look its best!!!

Haircut was ok — atmosphere and service not so much.
I got a trim from Kim, nothing special, but she did an ok job cleaning up a bob I’m growing out. I feel that overall it was lacking a bit of TLC — both the cut, the hair washing, and just the overall experience.
A haircut is more than just a practical necessity. Its a feel good thing to do for oneself. Kim’s Hair felt like an in and out and she couldn’t have cared less about it. She also kept telling me I’ve got the wrong ideas about what I want for my hair or the wrong hair for those ideas or whatever.
Price was borderline at $ 50. Wish the attitude would have been warmer and nicer, friendlier and more service oriented. Especially having read so many raving reviews here about her.
I don’t recommend this place and I certainly won’t go back.

Melissa cut my hair last weekend and did a FANTASTIC job. I had never been to the salon before, and I loved everything about it. It’s small and cozy and has personality. The price for a haircut was very reasonable (especially for trendy Greenpoint/​Williamsburg). I highly recommend!

I wish I found Kim earlier in my life. She was the one who saved me from the vicios cycle of bleaching my roots because i couldnt stand the dark roots look. But i also wanted to go natural without looking boring.
She did exactly what i needed and now Kim is the only stylist i will ever trust my hair to. She is just the best and a real professional. THANK YOU! No more bleaching! :D

Went to Kim a couple of weeks ago for a cut and some highlights. I had been to her a while back and wanted to give it another go. Kim is awesome! I left a message explaining my hair type and she decided a consultation would be best so we can have a game plan in terms of what to do. I told her I wanted a nice cut and a light color put into my hair. She suggested highlights, and told me to research and gather some pictures of what I might like. I wanted a color that could POP so she told me what she could do with my really dark hair and we were off.
The cut was super cute and the highlights came out wonderful. I got a nice golden brown color. I was reborn again in the hands of Kim! Not only did she do a good job but she’s super nice and super friendly. She shares about her life, and it makes me feel more at ease to hold conversations with her. The highlights were 135, cut 50. More than I usually pay but it was so worth it. I have never met anyone who can handle curly hair like mine. I will definitely be coming back. All my curly haired girls… Kim knows how to take care of us!

Kim is the hair whisperer.
I have super unmanageable hair with a mind of its own! Kim somehow gives me the perfect cut every time and i never walk out wishing for something else or waiting for it to grow out a little (like i have at most other salons). i live right above the salon and was SO EXCITED to find that it was great and so is Kim! She always takes the time to ask what I want, encourages me to bring pics and most importantly — she really listens! Next up is my color, because I trust that it will turn out marvelous!

This is a review for Melissa, quite overdue, but speaks to her range. In the past four years, my hair has gone from almost chin-​length with bangs to beyond shoulder length without bangs, and Melissa has seen me through a subtle but tasteful transition. She never makes me feel bad for not coming on a regular basis even though I’m sure my hair is an unspeakable mess by the 2 – 3 month marker. When I start realizing that I have more bad hair days than good, I call, make an appt, and always can get in within a week despite the fact that my work schedule sucks.
My hair is straight and thick, she always listens to what I want, and since I am not smart about knowing what looks good, is very helpful in giving advice. I also did color with her a few times (red for my brown hair) and I got compliments from strangers on it (I will get back to this habit when I get that raise).
Conversation is always pleasant and interesting without being overbearing, and the shop is homey and intimate without being crowded.

This review is long overdue. I have had my hair cut by Kim quite a few times now and have never in my life received such a perfect cut. She listens, but also has great insight and input.
I would and have recommended her to everyone I know

Melissa has been the most professional hair dresser who has ever touched my hair. Absolutely amazing. I have to recognize that it’s a little bit pricey, I’ve never spent so much but it was absolutely worth it ($ 160 for full highlights + tip).
She studied what I wanted to do with my hair and told me everything she would do before setting the appointment. She was fast, professional, talked with me a little while, extremely polite… a dream! And the result was more than awesome. Now that I’m back in Spain… god I’m gonna miss her!
