Hair of the Dog Walkers is your local pet care specialist! We are certified walkers through dog*tec, fully insured, bonded, and pet CPR/​First Aid certified. We specialize in small group, not *pack* walks for your pup, where they receive individual attention and positive learning experiences!

History

Established in 2013.

We wanted to create a pet care business of the highest standard, which is why we’re the only local company that is dog*tec certified. We care about the safety and well being of every animal, and treat our clients with prompt, professional service and expertise. Kisses, treats and belly rubs are always a given!

Andrea C.

Business Owner

Andrea is a former school teacher, who after having her two daughters, decided to follow her passion and love of animals by starting up a local dog walking business. She and business partner Kathleen, strive to keep a local network of clients, and treat every pet with individual care and attention. Hair of the Dog Walkers also maintains the highest level of professional certification in a somewhat unregulated field. They are certified through dog*tec, insured, bonded and first aid certified. Andrea and Kathleen also care deeply for the environment, and use bio bags, natural pet products, and online paperwork for their clients. Andrea and Kathleen both have rescue doggies.

Prompt. Professional. They do an amazing job. All of us who have used the service have noticed a change in our pets. They seem calmer and more responsive. I am not sure what they are doing, but it is well worth the money!

Steve and Andrea are amazing– prompt, professional, friendly, schedule accommodating and flexible, and obviously very experienced and competent with all types of dogs, big and small, and temperaments.
Steve Whittle is our main walker for our 2 yr old male black lab mix and our 11 month old female pitbull. We are reliant on his excellent training-​based walking skills, and he always comes through. We have also had him come for in-​home training for our very high-​energy and willful pitbull, Mazzy, and his advice and techniques were the best we have received in the 7 months we’ve had her.
He clearly knew Mazzy well from walking her only a handful of times, and keenly picked up on exactly who she is and what her issues were within minutes of the training session. In fact we only needed him to come once, which in a city where many trainers try to «package deal» you and do little beyond treat training and manners, was refreshing. Steve is genuinely committed to instant success, and sees the need for repeated sessions as a failure on his part. He is dedicated and thinks outside the box, and since our training session with him, Mazzy has done a 180 and is a new girl.
Steve’s ongoing training as applied to the dogs’ walks has only continued to improve her behavior. Thank you Steve! And all of the Hair of the Dog team!

I got the reference for Hair of the Dog walkers from another dog owner in our building who recommended them highly. They were the first and only dog walkers we met with for our dog Rudy — both Andrea and her former business partner Kathleen came to meet us and Rudy before his first walk. When Kathleen left Brooklyn and Steve started with Hair of the Dog, the transition was seamless.
They go above and beyond for their clients. I work night shift sometimes, and they are always willing to come by to walk him in the late evenings. Weekend walks are also never an issue.
They’ve been such a great help to us on many occasions! Can’t recommend them enough. They always leave us notes and updates about the walk and what «business» our dog did, and what other dogs he walked with. It’s nice to come home to a little note about his day!
Their prices are fair and I think very reasonable. Some days they end up walking Rudy for longer than half an hour. And I love that they will often take the dogs to walk in the park. Rudy never walks with more than 2 other dogs, usually just with 1 other dog.
Andrea and Steve are truly fantastic! Can not recommend them highly enough. They have taken such great care of my pup Rudy for the past almost 2 years!

Hair of the Dog Walkers is literally the best. We tried lots of different dog walking companies for our little pup and no one has been more reliable, communicative, and excellent has these guys. Not only do they walk dogs, but they have training services too – the training we got from Hair of the Dog Walkers has really changed our pup for the better. I refuse to recommend anyone else to my friends!

Just moved to the Park Slope area and I’m happy to say I’ve found my new dog walker. Andrea and Kathleen have been super helpful with my almost 2 year old puppy Saoirse. She was having some issues walking on a leash and nervous about city street noise but they really worked with her and now it’s like walking a new dog! Very flexible with my work schedule and always shows up. Highly recommended, 5 paws up!
