Description

Specialties

We specialize in launching careers for emerging designers. We want to help you take your jewelry making to the next level — whether it’s building a line, selling in stores, or renting your first bench space — we want to help you achieve your design dreams!

History

Established in 2013.

Happenstance Jewelry Studio was established by jeweler and educator Max Goodman just last year. After teaching at a number of venues throughout the city, she noticed that there were many classes for beginners, college programs for more serious students, and professional spaces for rent once people were established. What didn’t exist was an incubator for emerging designers — for people ready to start out professionally, but maybe not ready to do it completely independently. Happenstance’s goal is to act as a launchpad for emerging jewelers, giving them access to the equipment, personalized instruction and support they need, and eventually helping them to find independent success within the industry.

Meet the Business Owner

Max G.

Business Owner

Max earned her BFA from the Tyler School of Art. After graduating and launching her own line, Moxy Metals, she relocated to Brooklyn from Philadelphia in 2008. Max teaches at many venues around the city, and was the creator of the jewelry department at the now defunct 3rd Ward, where she developed and taught an 18 class curriculum. Max also has a strong online jewelry presence thanks to her online class at Craftsy.com and her collaborations with sites like kollabora.com. These days Max is happy to make her own work, mostly one of a kind pieces on commission, and teach at Happenstance. She especially enjoys her new apprenticeship program which allows her to spend a whole year with emerging designers, and watch them develop their arsenal of skills.
