Holon Middle East Grocery Store

I give Holon the 2 stars because they do, indeed, carry many items that us Sephardim/​Mizrahim need to do our cooking with. They also have a nice selection of cheeses, and the prices are not outrageous.
The issue I have is with their attitude. In an Israeli store, unfortunately, you generally will not have service with a smile; I do take deep offense when grocers feel as if they’re doing you a favor. I once went in and asked if they had lahmagine. They did have frozen ones, but the clerk was visibly angry when I said that I wanted fresh– sigh– and acted as if my desire to eat them as a lunch to-​go was outlandish.
Aside from that experience, I do purchase things from Holon as needed, and am grateful for their selection of hard-​to-​find kosher items. Their prepared foods seem to be popular, though, and perhaps one day I will sample their offerings, as the number of stores selling prepared Mizrahi food in Brooklyn is limited. I appreciate their selling cheeses from The Good Life label, and I am also intrigued by their selection of rices, beans, dried beans and legumes, and the olive barrels. This store reminds me in some ways of a kosher Sahadi’s.
I’d be very interested in checking out their selection of Passover items; I am always on the lookout for Israeli Passover imports, many of them made with kitniyot, and I’d also be interested in whether they import for year-​round consumption, Israeli kosher Elite-​brand Cheetos and Doritos.

I really enjoy this place. Oh my G-​d the hamentaschen. Get the date.yummie. The olives in teh barrels are wonderful also the nuts. I REALLY enjoy the hommade stuff at the front counter. Goulash, Morroccan carrots, baba ghanoush, and awesome tuna sald. A little Gan Eden for Sephardi!

If your looking for middle east groceries and traditional foods, Holon is the place to find it. I have shopped at this family owned store since I was about 4 with my parents.
The owners and staff are always helpful and friendly. They make many prepared foods and freeze them in their freezers. The prepared foods are probably some of the best in its class.
The prices are a bit high, but relatively par with other similar stores.
