Kris Waldherr opened her studio gallery to the public about 6 months ago and we decided to visit it on Valentine’s eve. It was a nice gallery space, cozy and quaint. Her husband was very friendly and offered us wine and made us feel right at home. Kris’s daughter, Thea(she is almost 4), was also present and a wonderful little surprise :) We enjoyed browsing through her books :) Kris also gives tarot card readings… and they are free! It was a fun and interesting experience :)

Kris Waldherr is a talented artist, author and illustrator who lives and works in Brooklyn. She recently opened a lovely gallery space in the Ditmas Park neighbourhood of Brooklyn where she showcases her own work as well as that of other artists. The gallery space is cozy and comfortable with great front windows and high ceilings. Events and gallery hours can be found at . Currently showing until October 26th, 2008: City Lights: The Art of Karen Zuegner.

It’s really great to have this little island of culture in this wonderful Brooklyn neighborhood. It livens things up and is a must-see Saturday stop. Combine with a Pomme de Terre visit(2 blocks away) for a charming afternoon.

Kris Waldherr’s Art and Words gallery is a must-see destination in this Victorian Brooklyn nabe. I visited earlier this summer, when it was featured in the Flatbush Artists Studio Tour. Showcasing Waldherr’s own graceful artwork for both children and adults, the show had the nice twist of displaying the kids’ pieces at the little ones’ eye level. The gallery also features the work of other artists as well, but does double-duty as the studio for Waldherr, who has an upcoming show at the end of October featuring her original art for her latest book, Doomed Queens. I’m looking forward to both the gallery show as well as the book! A cool, comfortable, cozy space for original art and a surprisingly big bathroom to boot! What’s not to love?
