This is my go to mechanic. Chris at the front desk is great and always helpful. I am not sure where the bad reviews are coming from– maybe it was under different ownership?

Didn’t have an appointment, and went in for a car inspection. They had me in and out in 15 or 20 mins

First time going to L&S and all I can say is that I was ripped off.
My ’93 Jeep Cherokee needed rear suspension and brake work. They looked it over and determined that the shocks needed to be replaced and the rear brakes rebuilt. No argument there.
They did the work and when I picked it up the bill came up to $ 520. It seemed a little high but I paid (in cash) and drove away.
Out of curiosity I googled prices of the components they replaced and everything was about ½ the price of what they charged me. I printed out my results and brought them to the service manager, Chris, the next day.
He spoke in circles about how they arrive at their prices and that you can’t compare what they source to what you find on the internet and said that if I called the auto parts store where they source their parts, I’ll find it’s twice as much as they charged me.
So I did. I called Parts Authority (where he told me to call) on Franklin Ave, told them I was a private buyer, not a shop so I don’t get shop rates, and got prices for all the parts on the list:
Shocks $ 56 vs $ 140
Drums $ 72 vs $ 80 they charged to machine the old, rusty ones
Shoes $ 29 vs $ 50
Brake Kit $ 9 vs $ 20
When I called the service manager back and reported what I found, his arguments were far ranging. They went from they did me a favor to work on my car to I didn’t get the parts right to they used the «best» brands to they’ve been in business 20 years to he’s not stupid and he’s got two college degrees and speaks 5 languages to hanging up on me.
Is this the kind of experience you want to have?

To rebut what the sour post said on June 1, I go there all the time for years and years, They have always been nice and helpful to me and others I watch them. If someone comes in the shop they stop for a moment and talk to the customer, Magda is always available, Maybe the person is upset because all the workers come from Poland as well as Magda! They have a great work ethic. If you want 2 nd hand parts tell them otherwise they will give you first hand thats their job! To sell, not to undersell, they are in business. Their prices are very fair I never complain about them once and they stand behind their work.
Only in a dire emergency would I ever use someone else. I have had a tow truck bring me from the Jersey shore back to Williamsburg just so they could work on it, I trust them!

You go there to deal with day & night situations. Most of the times cranky, unreliable, and ignoring all present. Dealing with Magda (running this shop) reminds me, talking to a bipolar stranger. She still doesnt seem to get it & constantly recommends all dealership parts ONLY. I bet she got no clue that there are secondary markets, not to mention the tripple cost when buying from dealership… Clueless and arrogant too. Again, depends in the mood, she could cone across nice., but this doesnt last. Mechanics run their own show. Dumb shop. Not reliable neither…

We bought a Subaru about a year ago and have brought it here each time we needed service. So far we’re very happy. We got a couple of oil changes and an inspection. Every time we go, they are fast, deal with us fairly, charge good prices and accommodate our schedules as far as when we can drop off or pick up the car.
Both times we got the oil changed we asked them to give the car a tune-​up if it needed it. And both times they said it was fine. Really? A mechanic telling us that our car didn’t need something? Amazing.
