Spectacular Brooklyn bar. There is no place like it in Brooklyn. It has an amazing outdoor area on the roof and the bar has this great atmosphere I wish more bars were like it! The owners are a lot of fun to drink with!

The unassuming entrance is one of the highlights of this«speakeasy.» The ambiance is definitely less divey than other bars in the neighborhood, and the viciously tall ceilings give it a feeling of grandeur. This is a place I’d start the night, not end it. A nice date spot if you’re looking to impress without overdoing it.

Really nice hole in the wall type of place. If you don’t look for it you’ll pas it but once you get inside it’s a great atmosphere with nice people & good service. They have a outdoor section but no seats but that’s chill. On a hot summer night that would be chill.

I like this place! It’s spacious for a hidden bar and they have a small outside area. It’s very low key which I like. I haven’t had anything other than Guinness here so I can’t say much about the drinks but they have a good selection.

When I moved in to Williamsburg in 2011, Larry Lawrence was a nice neighborhood bar my roommate and I frequented. Now, almost 5 years later I still come back from the UES. It’s a combination of speakeasy and low key bar; a great place to start(or end) a Friday night at. In my experience it doesn’t get crowded until later in the night, but grabbing a table is always preferred for me. Great place to grab a drink with a first date or just hanging out with friends.

I enjoyed this place more because it was spacious and not overly crowded. It’s a blend between a speak easy and a bar(I usually associate speak easys with fancy cocktails and a quiter atmosphere), but it does have a really cool upstairs area that’s open to the elements for people to escape the noise, hang out and smoke.

Chill bar, nice bartender, great ambiance, good place for adults who want to have a conversation and drink not scream over each other in a crowded meat market.

Ray. Ray. Ray. Rico, Dave, Chris, Steve & Uke. The real reasons why you come here. Aside from the staff/ownership this virtually unmarked bar is our hands down favorite in BK. It’s dark, cozy, there’s always great tunes playing and you feel hidden away from the world outside… which can be a scary place. It’s nice to know that you’ll be remembered and well taken care of in your neighborhood, and no one does it better than the staff at Larry Lawrence. If my wife and I are going out for the night, we usually have our 1st and last drinks of the night at LL. If you’re in the mood for a cocktail without all the usual societal garbage… stop in here next time you’re near.

This is a fun spot. My only wish is that we had come on a drier, more livelier evening. It’s a hidden speakeasy-style bar in Williamsburg that boasts dim, mood lighting and an earthy, hipster vibe. Again, a fun spot. They have an ample selection of beer on tap, plenty of liquor, and attentive bartenders. I have to suspect the attentive bartenders had more to do with the rain and the lack of people, but alas, I only have my experience to judge. Larry Lawrence is a simple place. It doesn’t have food or much else to offer besides its drink menu and limited wood décor, but they do have an outdoors smoking area upstairs for all the cigarette-touting lumbersexuals that frequent this place. Not a remarkable place, but definitely a fun way to chill with your friends.

Sure, it’s a speak easy-which makes it immediately cool. Outside of the entrance there is a small sign, and when you walk through the door and turn around, that is when you see the name of the establishment. You then approach a slotted door, which presumably is set up so that a staff member can see whether you are a law-enforcement official from the 1920s. Unfortunately I can’t give it a great review. The reason is when I stopped by on a Friday night at around 9PM, there was barely anybody there, which was a little sad. We looked upstairs and there was really nobody outside either and it was fantastic weather. I also did not get a «speakeasy» feel. Perhaps it was just an off day.

I’ve been here infrequently throughout all hours of operation over the years between/at opening and closing. Sometimes you hear Electric Wizard, sometimes you hear someone say«You can’t see my shoes, maybe they’re boots» and sometimes you make Victoria Zanghi laugh hysterically at an amateur sketch of a leprechaun in a tree, or sometimes you and someone cute talk about stuff in a quiet well/dimly lit space with wines and beers. Love it here.

With intimate, low lighting and a speak-easy-esque entrance, this is one of my favorite bars in the city. The bartenders are all very kind, knowledgeable, and definitely know how to make a strong drink. The outdoor smoking patio is a bit hit with smokers and overall modern, chill vibe would make almost anyone comfortable. Sunday nights are really slow and a great time to visit. You’re welcome to bring it or order outdoor food(and there’s oodles of choices nearby — just ask to see their stack of menus!)

Getting in: It’s easy to miss Larry Lawrence as it is located down a long, concrete hallway demarcated by one word, «Bar.» Vibe/layout: Before 11pm, this bar is nearly always deserted, but it does eventually fill up with people craving a quiet place to chat, drink and/or smoke, which you can do on the glassed-in upper-deck overlooking the bar. The earthy aspects of this bar, including the open, yet intimate space surrounded by brick, wood-paneling and custom furniture, give it a «ski-lodge» sort of feel. This spacious spot is dimly lit, stylish and sleek. On the ground floor, smoothly carved bar stools and wooden booths mark the perimeter, leaving a large amount of floor space for bigger crowds. Drinks: Beers, wines, cocktails, shots… anything… it’s all about the atmosphere here. F.Y.I.: This speakeasy is named after the owner’s childhood friend. Tip: Eat dinner at Caracas Arepa Bar next door, grab a drink at Larry Lawrence and then head to St. Mazie for another drink

I love a speakeasy! Nice dim quiet enough to talk and big enough for a group. They had my signature drink, french 75! The bartender had a killer Playlist and made great drinks. Only wish they, had some type of food. I get hungry when I drink.

I lurve speakeasies with hidden entrances. But I need to come back here when there’s more people. Came here on a Tuesday night for happy hour right when it just opened, so naturally us and another patron were the only customers there. Our bartender looked like the love child of Dave Grohl and one of the Sons of Anarchy members. When we asked for a drink menu, there were probably only about 10 drinks on the entire thing, so I ordered the ‘French 75′ which was gin, champagne, sugar, and some other thing. Loved it. The bartender may look intimidating and taciturn, but he knows how to make solid drinks. They also have a ‘French 76′ if you’re not a fan of gin and want vodka substitution. Unfortunately we couldn’t stay for another drink because we had to make a mad dash for dinner so I had to chug my flute like a sorority girl. Otherwise I would’ve definitely tried other drinks on the menu as well as check out the outdoor brick-walled rooftop area everyone else has mentioned. And they have an ADORABLE pit bull who loves to be petted and play around with the customers. Her name was Lola(I think? Eavesdropped on one of the staff members). One of the sweetest pit bulls I’ve ever met.

Oh man, this was some good times. I’m not sure how I keep winding up in these«speakeasy“themed kind of places, but the long walk down a dim hall through an unmarked door clued me in — there I go again. I really liked it here though — the atmosphere wasn’t overdone, it was just right. A bit dim, a bit shady, but the bartenders were attentive and skillful — not quite friendly, but they kept the whiskey coming, and that’s really all I ask. What was really cool about this place was the secluded outdoor patio, where a few people gathered to get away from the crowd or have a smoke. The bar was pretty loud(they were projecting a Rangers-Kings game on the wall) but the patio was quiet and nice. I’ll be back for sure — Larry Lawrence is a cool place to head without breaking the bank.

Before even stepping foot into this bar, I wanted to give it five stars based on its name alone… Larrrry Laaawrecee! The space was cool and unique in an unpretentious sort of way. The outdoor space makes you feel like your in a giant fish tank looking down at the bar. Not a place where you have to fight to get a drink at the bar. Great for a date or catching up with friends. You will like it.

Stumbling around Williamsburg, my boyfriend pointed out this hidden bar on his block. I certainly never noticed this space and decided to check it out. It is somewhat mysterious with the long walk to the main bar. Inside is beautiful and spacious. The lighting through the roof deck(where you can smoke) makes for a very beautiful visual. The bartender was super nice and offered me to make me a custom drink with gin. Im not sure what was in the drink but it was mighty strong and smooth. There are also $ 4 bottles of beer here so this sexy spot is perfect for the big and small wallet. I recommend this place for anyone. There is space for a large group or a cozy booth for two(where you can sneak a few kisses). I can’t wait to come back.

This may be my new favorite bar! Came by on Saturday before dinner at Traif. I love the idea of hidden speakeasy bars and am always on the look out for good finds.(I mean ‘yelpsessed’ duhhhh of course I am) Anyway — I love this place. The entrance is kind of hidden so just keep an eye out for the number and you’ll find it no problem. It is so cool in here — very dimly lit and kind of sexxxxyyyy. The drinks are strong and as a smoker I love the outdoor smoking balcony you can get to from inside. That’s pretty badass huh? Drinks are pretty good price wise. I believe my dark & stormy was $ 10. When we arrived at 7ish it was completely empty but by the time we left at 8pm it was starting to pick up. They allow you to reserve a section on their website so I would check that out if you come in a large group. All of the seats inside were reserved when we arrived but not until 9pm so we had no problem getting a seat! I will 100% be back… maybe tonight actually. CHEERS.

Bring a group of your own friends and its great! Otherwise the crowd here is quite weak. Cool concept with the hallway, giving it a speakeasy entrance. Smokers balcony available on the inside. It’s definitely a place to stand around in a circle and catch up. The music is non-danceble even for the drunkest of mavens.

This is my second time coming here when visiting family in New York. This second time it was much busier then the first time I came here. Was very disappointed in my drink, the Hemmingway. The bartenders are not the friendliest and the drinks were pricey. This is a place I really just want to love and be able to come to when I visit, but unfortunately both times Ive come it was just.meh. Maybe 3rd times a charm. They do have quite a few tables and seating upstairs as well.

— — — : i ordered 3 drinks : upon setting them down, the bartender looked at me and said, «$ 17.» : i squinted and said, «is this a trick?» and forked over a $ 20. GOODGOD, YOUKNOWYOUDRANKTHEKOOLAIDWHENYOUEXPECTTOPAY $ 17FORONEDRINK, NOTTHREE. *le sigh* i need to move out of manhattan and into brooklyn. — — — i came here for a girlfriend’s birthday party and i absolutely love this place. don’t be discouraged by the empty long walk from the front door to the bar door — this place is nice and swank on the inside. low tables for intrigues, dim lighting for flattering that figure, and a huge clear window to see the smoker’s area upstairs(so you can stalk other prospects if no one at the bar is to your liking.) if i’m ever in the area, i’ll definitely come back. xoxo

Love this neighborhood speakeasy. It’s a bit hidden so you have to look carefully for the 295 sign above the doorway. The bar is pretty big with lots of seats and couches around, it feels a bit like a warehouse inside a brick building, but drinks are cheap and it’s chill. There’s a cool upstairs area that’s divided by glass for the smokers. Well drinks cost about $ 6 and I thought it’d be way more because we’re still in New York, but the prices were affordable for hanging out in Brooklyn!
