LaunchPad

LaunchPad is an awesome venue. I went here to see a chip tunes show, and I was immediately into the intimateness of the venu. The artists were at one end of the room, just standing at a card table. Their proximity threw the crowd into a wild fervor. The space could only be about 20′ by 10′ but we were crowd surfing people, the whole nine yards. My only complaint was that in late august the place quickly became a sauna, but their awesome backyard patio kept this from being too big a problem. You could always go outside to take breaks! There’s nothing quite like the experience of going to a show that is volunteer-​run, everybody, even the bouncer, just wants to be there because they like the show. If you’re seeing music here, i would highly recommend Launchpad.

It’s a lovely thing they’re doing, culture, music, art; however, their patrons seem to have no consideration for the neighborhood. Launchpad is considerate enough to stop the music at a reasonable hour, if only the visitors would lower their voices in the evening.

Came here with some friends for an improv show. It was only $ 5 (suggested donation) and was about 100x funnier than the shows I’ve seen at UCB. Plus, BYO! The crowd was really into it (community-​ness FTW), which made it even better.
I’m going back later this week for another event, which promises to be equally great. Looks like a big improvement to Franklin Ave.

I came here on a Friday night to see a live music/​electronic show. I walked in to find an interesting mix of young music lovers (early 20s to mid 30s). The music act happened near the street front. The lights were dimmed and there was a bizarre space movie projected on the side wall.
I didn’t get there on time but there was BBQing happening in the earlier part of the night. People were encouraged to bring whatever they wanted to grill. In addition, it was BYOB. This space has a refrigerator so that you may keep your yummy beverages cold. There are plenty of foldup chairs ready to use and two couches inside.
I imagine this space would do great during the summer as there is back patio area, which is where the grilling occurs. When I went outside, there was a lady hula-​hooping. :)
Overall, great communal space for gathering a smaller group of people. I will definitely be sure to come back to check other events here. Look at their website for the calendar and check to see what events strike your fancy. :)

This community center just opened a few weeks ago in Crown Heights!
During the day, the center lets anyone come in and use it as a workspace. Lots of chairs and tables, pleasant respectful people… it’s a freelancer’s dream.
The center hosts activities — film nights, craft workshops for kids, gallery shows, etc.
The owner said it will have a schedule posted on its website soon. For now he said the center is open most days from noon until midnight (wow).
Crown Heights needs something like this! The center is really FOR the community. I couldn’t believe they didn’t ask for any money when I came in today to use their wi-​fi.
