Long’s Wines & Liquors

I love this place. Staff is always pleasant. Knowledgeable and courteous without being pretentious. I stock my home bar exclusively with these guys.

In planning date night this past Friday, I wanted sake with our authentic Japanese spread, but didn’t realize how hard sake actually is to come by. I gave Long’s a call, and they were quick and to the point — and they stocked all kinds of sake.
Ten minutes later, double parking in the bus stop (yes, I was desperate and running close on time) I literally was in and out in all of seven minutes.
Clerk: Hey, did you just call?
Me: Yeah, but I’m double parked in the bus stop so give me a medium sweet sake.
Clerk: I personally like this honey flavor, :held it up to show me:
Me: :grabbed it, threw money at cashier, said have a good weekend:
Successfully avoided a ticket. It was a good night! Don’t forget to ask about their punch card that when you visit for the tenth time, you get a sweet deal!

I am updating my review. I had not been to Long’s in a long time but recently decided to go again because they really do have the best selection in the area and it feels more like a «wine shop» than a «liquor store.» So, we went and found a few interesting items and also found that a lot of the staff had turned over since I had been there. The people working there were friendlier and more accommodating than they had been last year and it didn’t feel forced. So we went back in a few days later for a tasting and also because I knew I had to get a couple of work gifts and I’d rather do it now than later. It was a little busy but again everybody seemed pleasant and the guy who helped me (James) was really good. He knew what he was talking about and made really good recommendations and I am sure I probably spent way too much time deciding but he was really patient but most of all I wasn’t even going to ask for gift wrapping because most places don’t have it but he wrapped the hell out of my gifts and they look really good! I am definitely going to go back and get more. Keep up the good work, Long’s!”

I always think 5 star Customer Service when I think of Longs. Every time I step into this place I am greeted by friendly, knowledgable staff to help me navigate me through their amazing wine and liquor library. They have been especially helpful when I have needed a special gift for birthdays and holidays and have never let me down when I needed a last minute champagne delivery to my business.

I was looking for mini bottles to send as bridesmaids gifts long distance and they had a good variety of what I was looking for. Prices not bad, but not as inexpensive as I like. I looked around the store just for fun before I checked out, good variety of liquor and wines but they don’t have many bottom shelf brands, aka off brands that are on the cheaper side.

I recently moved to Bay Ridge and am still getting to know the area. I was planning a small party for my mom and aunt visiting from the south and needed to get some supplies. I needed a mixed selection and only knowing slightly more than the basics of wine is made of grapes and whisky is dark can be frustrating.
Joe helped me out and took his time making suggestions and comparisons. I was planning on buying a bottle of tequila for my aunt as one of her birthday gifts — I recalled her liking a certain brand but they were out. I was given the suggestion of 123 Organic Reposado (Dos) as well as an orange liqueur incase someone wanted to make a margarita. My mom likes her gin & tonics so he recommended Hendrick’s (a name I was aware of but I am not a gin drinker) .
I also wanted/​needed bottles of chardonnay from a local vineyard, vodka & a celebratory bottle of sparkling wine to pop. Joe also asked about my budget and we were able to compromise so I was able to get the best selection for my budget. I went in on a Wednesday night around 6:30/7pm, requested delivery around 8/8:30 and was able to get the delivery at 8pm on the dot.
Everything was a hit! My aunt loved her tequila (so did my mom apparently) and was very impressed. My mom loved her gin. The only thing left is ½ a bottle of the orange liqueur. Here I was worried that I may have bought too much but I was way off, I actually should have bought more.
So I’ll be back soon to pick out more so that ½ bottle of orange liqueur isn’t so lonely.

A nice selection and decent prices but I’ve had unpleasant experiences with some of the guys who work here. Purchasing a bottle or two, or asking for a recommendation shouldn’t be met with stereotypical record store levels of condescension. I’ll be taking my business elsewhere.

Long’s is owned by two sisters who taste almost everything they sell– and what they sell is a diverse selection of wines and spirits sourced from around the world. They love this business and their customers. Sensitive to the neighborhood needs (Bay Ridge is slowly getting younger and more globally aware but it’s still a ‘lights-​and-​brights’ salt of the earth neighborhood), Long’s provides both comfort and nuance, for those of us who seek more interesting options. Fantastically diverse wine collection. Small but solid spirits selection. Astor Place is my heaven, but I’m really glad Long’s is in my backyard. Best liquor store in South Brooklyn by far. Shop local and say hi to these friendly neighbors!

I HAD to write a review because of the previous ridiculous «NO ID» bad reviews below. Why are these reviewers below giving 1 star reviews? Read the reviews they all didn’t have ID lol.
Anyway great selection, great help, always help me and my wife. They sometimes have wine tastings which we always end up buying the bottles we taste. Great whiskey, bourbon, scotch selections too. This place is always a hit and wonderfully run. GO HERE!

WORST EXPERIENCE! So I come into the store with a solid game plan to buy all the spirits to make Negronis and at least seven other gin based recipes and I left empty-​handed and pissed off.
For starters I didn’t appreciate the «I’m fixing something/​having a conversation» act two employees were engaging in too close for comfort to me as if I’m oblivious to the fact you’re watching me. I even heard one say «what’s he doing, he has a list.» Yes indeed I had a list, didn’t know it was a crime. Maybe they saw an African-​American male in a baseball cap 20 minutes before closing and thought it was a ransom note? Who knows *Kanye shrug*. I’ve been bar tending close to a decade now so if I state I don’t need your help and your store has all your spirits and varietals labeled I don’t need you trailing me like the Secret Service on Malia! The dudes walked from the register to the area I was in so clearly tact isn’t in the repertoire of these geniuses.
I get to the register and my girlfriend wants to make a separate purchase of cider but forgot her ID at home and now they inform me because of the law I can’t purchase all the booze I just spend 15 minutes carefully selecting because she doesn’t have ID (even though she has WORKED at this liquor store before and confirmed this). If that’s the case wouldn’t every mother/​father who come into this store be denied a purchase because they’re with children? Just my thoughts. To clarify their bullshit law excuse I called 311 and lo and behold no such thing can be found so I would love for the owners to screen shot some documentation on that.
I won’t ever support this business and unfortunately have to commute a little further to get my hootch. I wish I could give them the ZERO stars they deserve. I was planning to do train my girlfriend to bartend last night and I wasn’t able to accomplish my goals since everything was closed or far away and that irritated me even more!!!

Hands down Best Liqour Store in Bay Ridge! Major props must be given to LONG’s for their incredible variety and friendly knowledgable staff. Always eager and readily available to help you find what you are looking for. Your wine and spirit selections will surely wow your guests.

Even though Long’s isn’t the closest liquor store to my house, it’s the only one I shop at. I mean, why not? They deliver! Great selection, wine tastings and friendly staff. They’ll even gift wrap. Keep up the good work! And keep the wine flowing!

The only liquor store in Brooklyn to have a truly great and adventurous liquor and wine selection. The staff are extremely informative and helpful, and it’s fairly priced. You can find amazing quality for any price. Aesthetically, the shop is welcoming and easy to navigate.
While it may be out of the way for some, being in Bay Ridge, it’s worth the trip.

Love this local store!!! The service is the best, all the workers/​owners are helpful, patient, and friendly. They always give great recommendations and are not pushy. They have free wine tastings at least weekly and they are usually great with reasonable prices. Stop in and pick something up and support our local awesome businesses!!!

My family and I have been shopping at Long’s for years now and have never once had a bad experience. The owners are absolutely lovely, the staff goes above and beyond to be helpful, and the store itself is always well-​stocked and spotless. Jesse never fails to suggest something wonderful to me when I’m unsure of what I’d like, he along with the rest of the staff always prove to be extremely knowledgeable. The free tastings are a wonderful bonus, I can’t count how many times I’ve purchased something I’ve tasted that I otherwise wouldn’t even know existed! The prices are reasonable to begin with, but between the punch cards and the discounts on featured tasted products you truly never come close to breaking the bank, it’s great! Long’s is a wonderful establishment, I hope to continue to shop there for years to come.

i swear i never go back again to this place, stuff is so stupid, and the manager i even worst, they made me so angry, and this is not the first time, i dont use to write reviews, but what is enough is enough!!!
i went there with my husband, after half an hour we picked 5 bottles, but my husband had to go out to move the car, he was circleing with the car there were no palce to stop, i was waiting on the line, i take my ID out to show it, cuz i have been there soooo many times, but each time you have to show id, even they know you, they remember u, i have been going there for 3 years, and i had to fight about the id with them, cuz they always come up with a bullshit, and guess what she told me this time… yes but the man who was here with you he has to come back to show his id!, and i said he left he is not even here i am paying, and here is my id, and you know me, and she says yes, i remember you, and i say so why u need another id mine is not enough?
she says: but that guy who was here before i have to see his id, cuz u were together with him and maybe u will share the wine… i sad he bought vine here before also, its not the first time you saw him here, and he is not here with me he had to go, but you know what i am going to share that vine with my mother and her husband, do you want me to bring in their ids also?
(and just to let you know we both over 30!!!) they always find an excuse about the id… i am so tired of this bullshit, just waisted time, ofcourse i walked out i prefer to go to anywhere else…

Bay Ridge is a far commute from the city, but Long’s is easily reason enough to continue calling it home. I LOVE this store! I have never met an unkind person here, or anyone that wasn’t eager to help me either find what I was looking for or guide me to something better. They are never pushy, and I spend a lot of time wandering aimlessly because they have just such an interesting selection; it’s a learning experience every time! Every recommendation I’ve ever taken has been great, and they have tastings Friday and Saturdays where I’ve also found some favorites.
Good customer service and non-​stressful shopping experiences are such a rarity in New York City, and Long’s is one place where you happen to get both. Their selections are always a hit whether it’s a big gathering or a quiet dinner at home. It’s silly that I’ve been shopping here so regularly for the last 6 months and not gotten their names, but like I said, every person I’ve ever encountered here is awesome.

What is up with this place?
Their selection is fantastic. I love the tastings that happen. They are probably the only decently-​priced liquor store in the area.
But MAN, every time I’ve walked in there the staff has been so rude! Just today I walked in to buy a bottle of liquor and the cashier came up to me and said «Uh, that’s the last bottle of that. Are you really going to buy that?»
I had no idea how to react. I’ve never had anyone in any store try to get me NOT to buy something. Not to mention the cold stares of the other two employees, one of which actually ushered me out the door the moment I signed my receipt, as if to say «We don’t want you in here a moment longer, get out.»
Maybe it’s because I’m gay? I have been there many times with my partner (maybe once a month in the last half-​year).
I don’t know. I’ve read all the reviews that go on and on about Long’s wonderful customer service, but I have failed to see even basic politeness on display here.
That being said, they have a wonderful selection that is fairly priced, which works for me. But I never really feel like going back after I make my purchases. Maybe I shouldn’t?

I’ve been coming here for years while Iiving in Bay Ridge. There are many mom and pop shops it seems in BK that don’t do enough besides «just exist»… but hey, Longs doesn’t disappoint. While they do not have the capacity of a warehouse, they do have a wide assortment of wines, liquors, cordials, and pretty much what you might need covered.
As a family run business, they have customer service down pat. If they don’t happen to have exactly what you’re looking for, they can order it. JUst talk to them!
Also, they do discounting on cases and offer a loyalty discount card. A nice gesture to keep loyal customers returning. However, it is really the experience that draws me there enough to walk a full 12 blocks to pick up a bottle of wine. They’re often busy and understandably so, it’s a cozy environment to shop in. How’s that for a testimonial?

My guy ordered two bottles of hard-​to-​find bourbon off their website (Extra points for accurately having stock on website!) — and Sasha called him back to confirm, since the name on the card was different than the person picking up (she wanted to make sure it wasnt a stolen card). First of all — not enough places do this, so THANK YOU.
Second of all — they held the order for 48 hours because I wasnt able to make it deep into Brooklyn until later in the week. When I arrived, they had it boxed up, receipt ready, and I was in and out in a matter of minutes (with the exception of me browsing).
The place looked like it had a pretty wide variety — out of the corner of my eye, I saw Oregon wines, which hold a dear place in my heart — so if I come back, Ill spend more time browsing.
If you’re deep in Brooklyn around the R Train, make sure to take a bit of effort to stop in, support local, and see what they have in stock!
