History

Established in 2014.

Lotus Creations was founded in December of 2014 by Jonayah M. Jackson (Jo) and Jevon S. Goldson (Jerzey) because they needed to create a space where anyone could create art no matter who they were or how much money they could afford to spend on extra-​curricular activities. To them, it was simple: they wanted to teach and knew students of all ages who wanted to learn. And thus, Lotus Creations was born.

Lotus Creations is in its infancy stage; we’re still growing. Right now, we’re offering a handful of dance classes on the weekends. Hopefully, from that handful of classes and the generous donations we receive, Lotus Creations will be able to expand and teach more classes. We will be able to have our own studio space and fully realize our dream of running a community-​based performing arts center.

With her co-​founder, Jerzey, Jo was inspired to start Lotus Creations to help bring the performing arts to more aspiring dancers in Brooklyn. Being part of the generation that witnessed firsthand the steady decline of arts programs offered in NYC public schools, it is her calling to help create an organization rooted in the community that will offer affordable dance classes for anyone and everyone.
