Lower East Side Ecology Center

Wow. Most unbelievably bad experience. I always think that people working in an organization to better the environment would be helpful when people are trying to do just that, —but there are rules with dropoffs that we were not aware of. Instead we were barked and sneered at when we showed up.
When we asked what were the rules, and tried to make an appointment as they suggested, they wouldn’t give us an appointment. Then the guy starts going off on us.
The aggression was just over the top. Our jaws just dropped.
In the past we were customers making purchases and hadn’t encountered any problems. We won’t be back after this experience.

Recycle your electronics and batteries. Buy inexpensive upcycled computers and tech. Save the Earth. Conveniently located. What’s not to love?

This place is a diamond in the rough. We found a vintage stereo receiver that is beautiful and works great. Please some fine speakers. And now we have a living room stereo system for much cheaper than retail thanks to this place. worth supporting

Hidden gem in Gowanus. Great spot to recycle old electronics. You can also purchase used items. I got new earbuds for five bucks and a one pound bag of compost/​worm poop for $ 1.50.

This place is AWESOME. Kenan (sp?) RULES. Great service, great staff. Fun location.
The only thing that would make this place any better would be if you all wore brown robes with kinda huge hoods, and glasses with glowing eyes, and only said Uutini!!!

I love this place. Great option with Saturday hours to recycle old electronics. They are so nice here. They have a little «store» with great values and finds! Really a great find in the neighborhood. They took random cords, an older cell phone and a bunch of computer/​camera stuff. I can’t say enough great stuff about my experience here. This place makes recycling fun!

I’m grateful to this organization for having Saturday drop-​off hours and for holding fairly frequent recycling events throughout the five boroughs (and kudos to Tekserve, since they help sponsor the events). Perhaps we recycle more than the average person or perhaps we buy more electronics/​etc. recyclable products, but we have a lot to get rid of several times/​year and it would be much less convenient without the LES Ecology Center.

Sure, you’re spending your Saturday sitting around a loading dock accepting donations — seemingly doing something helpful for society. Does that also mean you have to be a prick? I guess it does.
When I ask you a simple question about the location of the entrance to the store you run in conjunction with the drop-​off center; you needn’t reply in a sarcastic attempt to impress the two other jokers hanging out with you.
Why do you want to know? Do you have money burning a hole in your pocket?
These are generally not the questions one would expect to hear when visiting any sort of retail operation — especially one that’s small and charitably oriented. The folks at the metal scrap yard around the block have the courtesy to be polite, but then again, they don’t do what they do just to be hip.
I do suppose I am looking at this all wrong. And, perhaps this keen business sense and utterly-​sharp wit is exactly why you three diligent ecological warriors were selected from a vast sea of superbly qualified applicants to keep watch over a mostly vacant warehouse for refuse overlooking the banks of the Gowanus.
Keep up the good work! Your parents would be proud.

This place is great! I feel like no one knows about it but it seems like a totally great idea to recycle and resell perfectly good electronics.
They have a lot of good TV’s, microphones, recording equipment, you name it!
Thanks to the people at Film Biz down the street who referenced me to come here. They had exactly what I was looking for.

This place sponsored a e-​cycling event in Prospect Park one time and I got rid of a ton of computers and such. I didn’t realize they had a collection center in Gowanus!
It’s very awesome. You can find it on President St at the corner of Nevins. I went on a Saturday to drop off an old 13′ BW television, a computer monitor, VCR and some old cell phones. It was so quick and easy.
If you’ve got some old electronics to get rid of, this is a great place to do it. I’m glad they are there. Now I have a lot more room in my closets!
