Magic Cobra Tattoo Society

Have gotten a few tattoos at Magic Cobra and each time has been a pleasant experience. Everyone there is SUPER nice and chill– no pretentiousness. They make you feel comfortable and provide great insight/​recommendation. Me and my friend have gotten tatted by Adam, Doug and Kati– all highly recommended!

My friend from Seattle came to visit and we have been talking about getting avocado tattoos for over 2 years. It was her last day in New York and she was determined this was the trip that it would happen. We had a couple other spots to hit before the tattoos, Cotton Candy Machine for an art show, the Abbey for a birthday party and before we knew it time had been slipping through our dainty, little fingers. Who knew tattoo shops would close so early in Williamsburg. What happened to the good ol’ days of getting some liquid courage before getting inked?!
We went through the list and up came Magic Cobra and it would be open until 11pm! And I recognized the name because Ulyss has been tatting up Bushwick every Sunday at the Rock n Shop market for $ 50 a pop. My friend and I were down to the wire. The artists were like… well what are you looking for exactly? I was like avocado tattoos that don’t look like giant, green birthmarks.
Ashley aka Ol’ Ash was an extreme doll. She was in for designing us matching avocados. We showed our inspiration piece and she drew us a sample from there. Even though an avocado that loos like Bowie with a banner that reads «what a pity» would have been epic we decided to keep it simple.
After a visit for some courage we returned to see the sketch and get a price quote. We got a special deal for the two of us. And my friend got a quote for an additional tattoo of a cat face. We hit up the atm and away we went. Ashley was super sweet, funny and gentle tattooer. And she even stayed past closing to do both of our tattoos.
I highly recommend coming to the shop for great tattoos, experience and people.

So I’m on my Spring Break, (Woo-​hoo) and already decided before I came to NY that I was gonna get a new tattoo. After searching for a few hours here on Unilocal,I decided on Magic Cobra.
I called just to make sure they do walk-​ins even though it was on their website (which is super bad ass, btw) and then left about an hour later. Even though it was Friday the 13^th, so of course they were super busy, I was greeted right when I walked in with smiles, eye contact, all that good stuff. Now on to the tattoos:
Adam is freakin’ awesome. I got 2 black and gray rose heads; one of my hip, and another near my armpit/​back area. Takes his time, not heavy handed, just an all around great experience. He sketched something up real quick, told him they were a little too big, he then scaled them down for me like it was no problem at all. Also, just from observing the other artists in the shop, they truly try to make relationships with their clients and customers. Plus they’re funny, haha. I would go back 1,000,000% easily. No debating. Much love, Magic Cobra. Much love. I’ll pat a picture in the morning.

I dunno if the guy was just pulling my leg or not but I came in here to get a tattoo on my birthday. The dude had the same name as me AND was celebrating his birthday. Prettay-​prettay spookay.
Anyway, he put a delightful, beautiful looking garlic bulb on my arm. Couldn’t ask for a better gift. A real top notch shop. Check it out.

Don’t question it, just go! I got tattooed by Ian here and plan on coming back for another piece by Doug as well. They’re super sweet and hilarious, everyone there is super cool and fun to talk to. You don’t get the «elitist» vibe from any of them and honestly that’s rad as hell. Their prices are fair and their work is amazing. Cool dudes and chicks, and cool art.

I’ve gotten 7 tattoos here and am beyond pleased with all of them. It’s rare to find good tattooers who aren’t pretentious d-​bags who want to charge you way too much for some small-​ass flash. These guys are all awesome and reasonable. Ian W. just did two traditional pieces on me and they’re some of the best tattoos I’ve gotten — Adam’s done 3 on me and all of them are killer — I even got one from Ol’ Ash the apprentice and she nailed it!

Love this place so much! Everyone who works here is very friendly and they have fair prices. I’ve gotten 5 tattoos here from Katie, Gavin, & Olé Ash, all are great and healed perfectly.

I’ve now visited the shop 3 times and have had work from Adam & Megan, both artists did a fantastic job on each job. Adam had a more difficult task in re-​working my back piece for a cover up and the results are wonderful– the artwork is exactly what I wanted. Everyone at the shop is welcoming & friendly– highly recommend this spot.

This review is for Doug in particular, but the shop as a whole is great, all the artists and staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, no elitist bs or attitude. Doug has done all six of my tattoos including a half sleeve, his work is incredibly solid, and he’s extremely nice and accommodating through the whole process, his sketchbook is rad, but give him a few days and he’ll also draw up some incredible custom artwork for you! couldn’t be happier with my tattoos

Unfortunately disappointed with this experience. I called beforehand to check on the prices. I explained that I wanted 3 small black lines in the shape of an arrow and was told that would meet the minimum and it would be $ 85.
I brought a picture in of exactly what I wanted but it wasn’t traceable so they had to draw on their own. I understand lines are difficult because they have to be perfectly straight but it took about half an hour to draw and the drawings kept being larger and thicker than what I wanted. I eventually gave in when it looked close enough to what I wanted. As I laid down on the table, the artist told me it was going to be $ 175. I was incredibly shocked but that is not the time to piss off your tattoo artist so I went along with it. In hindsight, I should have brought it up but I just let it go.
The tattoo looked great upon finishing but after a few days a bunch of blowouts became very visible. Again, I understand straight black lines are definitely a tough one but I feel like this is maybe tattooing 101? Maybe I’m wrong.
All in all they were very nice but I definitely don’t appreciate being duped in price and the lack of skill that seems to have gone into my piece.
Probably a better place for old school and maybe more colorful pieces.

Best customer service and amazing artists! Douglas went full out of his way for us to get a tatt while I was in NY for just a couple days. His sketches are so fresh and classic. Stoked I’m taking his art work with me back overseas. Would highly recommend this place to anyone. The guys had some good humour there too

I’ve been tattooed here 3 times now. I’d been tattooed by Woodz at another shop and loved him so much I followed him here but have yet to actually be tattooed by him at Magic Cobra. My first two visits went well but my last was terrible. The artist overcharged me an insane amount, he was cocky and arrogant, and he totally fucked up my arm. My tattoo bled out and half of the tattoo has a gnarly scar. Be careful when going here. I’d really only recommend Woodz. My arms fucked thanks to this other guy… who now looking back on it made me sign no paperwork and never told me his name. Suspect.

I can’t speak for any of the other artists but the tattoo quality and demeanor of woodz was very satisfactory, the shop is clean and in a easy to access location, I was here a year earlier for a Friday the 13^th tattoo deal thing and had a good experience then also, I recommend this place if you are looking to get something done.

Great shop! I had a custom piece from Woodz done a few months back. Larger scale rib piece done. He was very professional, whipped me up something amazing. And we did it all in 2 sessions. He did a Mermaid sitting in an oyster holding onto a pearl. It was one of my fastest healing tattoos to date, and I have 7 I def recommend Woodz, he is really great with an amazing portfolio to boot!

I am in love with Magic Cobra Tattoo Society. I went with a group of friends Thursday (⁷⁄₁₂) night into Friday (⁷⁄₁₃) morning to get $ 13 Friday the 13^th tattoos. True, we waited on line for 2 or so hours but it was fun and I am obsessed with my new tattoo. Woodz did an incredible job and my friends had equally great things so say about their artists. The place is clean and charming as are the people who work there. I will most definitely be returning to MCTS for further, more elaborate ink courtesy of Woodz in the very, very near future.
Go here. Get a beautiful tattoo. You will be glad that you did.

I was extremely impressed with Magic Cobra. Clean, well presented, and cordial. I had the pleasure of getting tattooed by Adam, the manager, who was AWESOME. I was even more grateful when I had called to make a last minute appointment. He shuffled his schedule around to tattoo my sister and I. He has a great talent and I would most def go back.
I am super impressed with the tattoo and the quality of work. Never felt rushed and was always comfortable to express my opinion or discomfort over the duration of the tattoo.

Awesome shop. Everyone was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and professional. Got my nipples pierced by Anna and she did an incredible job. Was meticulous about the placement and my satisfaction with it. Turned out absolutely perfect. She also fitted me for a custom nostril ring which I’m deeply in love with.
Highly recommended! Nice addition to the neighborhood. Will definitely be back again.
