I agree it is better than pioneer on the opposite road. I thought it is a Mexican grocery store cuz I saw a brand called lala which is a Mexican diary brand, but the review below says it is owned by a Korean lady, it really surprised me! Most of the food is cheaper than other places, oh, I want to recommend Mexico mango here, pretty big and sweet and only $ 1!

Well its a supermarket and supplies my basic needs for home. You know whole grain bread, fruits and veggies. Its not an enormous supermarket but the basic staples can be found. I found Skippy Chocolate peanut butter here. mmm its a yummy snack. They renovated the storefront which is much brighter! One thing for me is almost every time I come here people ask for me to reach items on the top shelves. I mean I don’t even work here but I do have a height advantage. There is also a deli counter which has a decent but limited selection of cold cuts. Its no Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s but it gets the job done when in a pinch.

I’ve been coming here since I moved to this neighborhood about 6 months ago since it is a few blocks away from me. I come here now and then, although would prefer to do my main shopping down the street. First of all, the place is usually somewhat clean… Kind of in a grey area(ie neither clean nor dirty.) There is usually some kind of debris on the ground or fruits and veggies that have fallen that have not been picked up. On the subject of fruits and veggies, I try not to buy them here since they are usually about to rot… You know the kind of deal where you get a basket of blueberries for a dollar at a Korean grocer that is 4 $ anywhere else, because they grow mold in a matter of a couple days(this is for you, Miss Sarit!). Bottom of the barrel-type stuff. They have a decent selection of canned foods and spices, they carry Silk Milk which is great since I semi-recently stopped drinking dairy milk; however their juice selection leaves much to be desired. Final bit: It’s an okay place to go if you’re in the area and need a few non-perishable items — otherwise go elsewhere and save your GI tract.

I prefer this over Pioneer down the street, but it’s only OK. They pack food into the small available space, but specialty or gourmet items are going to be a no-go most of the time. Service is fine.

Highly unrated place! Fifth avenue is a desert when it comes to supermarkets if you go west of 9th ave… except for this place, which is seriously much much cheaper than any of those scam artist little grocery stores that charge like $ 3 for a pack of gum. The owner is the sweetest little Korean lady ever – she remembers you and she even placed a special order of squash for me because I liked it so much. even though it looks less than sparkling clean, there is a ver decent selection of vegetarian options, fruits and vegetables that have a strong showing of Hispanic influence, as well as household and pharmacy items. Like I said, best prices around with weekly deals because it is a franchise. Friendly staff, too. I go there 2x per week.

I’ve been going to this supermarket for a very long time… since I was a kid. I imagine it was competing with Pioneer, several blocks away. All I can say is that this is a not so big supermarket. There’s not that much gourmet food, and selection is decent — but not that big. My sister couldn’t find an ice cream brand.

We in my household call this supermarket«Doleh’s,» which might be the name of a former owner. None of us remembers. Sunset Park has got some downright nasty supermarkets. Doleh’s holds up best. The produce isn’t really great but it’s organized. They recently installed new freezers and refrigeration units. Like all our local supermarkets west of Chinatown, they don’t offer terrific cuts of meat — thin-cut pork chops and dubious steaks, big bags of chicken legs, occasionally decent chicken breasts — but meats are sometimes very inexpensive if you don’t mind chasing after their sales. Still, I’m disappointed you never see any real bonanza sales there. The prices on breakfast cereal and soda and coffee and juice and paper goods never seem super cheap, but their everyday prices are a little lower than surrounding supermarkets. You can find individual items cheaper elsewhere — 2-liters in the dime stores, breakfast cereal in the drugstores — but who has time to shop? This Met is reliable, if not awesome. Good informal service. It’s cute to listen to the sassy cashiers and bagboys. «Local flavor.» Oh, and they’ll cheerfully deliver your groceries if you ask !! I never ask, but it seems like a benefit to the many older customers there.
