This is the nastiest pet shop I have ever seen. I walked in to buy a cat and the man sitting there didn’t greet me. I approached him and asked if he had any cats for sale. He said yes but he couldn’t sell them because they were sick but that I could go back there and waved his hand in the direction of the cats. I got back there and the 2 cats that were in the cages were crying. Begging to be saved. The deplorable conditions had me crying when I got back in my car. I didn’t want to leave them there. I asked the man how much were the cats and he said $ 65 — $ 100. I asked him where did he get the cats from?, and he said he didn’t know. Maybe his wife knew. Smh. I was disgusted. It’s nasty in there. It was so cold where the sick cats were caged. This place needs to be investigated. As soon as I find out where to report them, I will be doing just that. Stop giving these people good reviews because these are your friends or family. Shame on you. Doesn’t deserve half a star.

Horrible Gross Nasty pet store. I recommend NO ONE come to this place for a pet. The animals are highly mistreated and the guy that works there said he couldn’t give us the cat because it was sick and he couldn’t tell us where they even purchased the cats from. The pets in the cages looked hungry sick and neglected. Gross store poor animals. They need to be reported ASAP!

I walked over a mile to come here to buy a hairbrush for my dogs on a Saturday. By the time I got to the store it was 11:30am and the store was closed. Shuttered, with no sign or note about why they were closed. I walked right back home.
It is frustrating to go out of your way to go to a neighborhood store to find they are closed during normal operating hours that any business should be open during. After reading other Unilocal reviews I will not be back. I am going to order the brush on amazon.

Good neighborhood place, they are kind people with everything a pet shop should have.

This place is the epitome of filth. Their items were strewn everywhere making it difficult to get around. Not to mention the state of the animal’s cages all crammed in the back of the store. The kittens looked sickly and meek, especially the one in the very top cage. His right eye was twitching and looked a bit infected. The son that works there was very professional and helpful. However his mother had ignored me as I walked in and was screaming at the dogs as I walked out. Very improper behavior especially for one who works in a pet store. You would think they’d treat their animals better. I implore somebody to go save those poor creatures for I am never setting foot in that shop ever again.

I called today to see if they carried an Omega-​3 liquid supplement for cats, which my vet recommended for my really old kitty, and they had it in stock. And they delivered it. I love this pet supply store.
Update: Oh, and if you can’t read the incredibly indecipherable small print on that bottle of Omega-​3 oil for kitties, you can call them and ask them to go find it on their shelves and read it to you.

This place is depressing! Two large breed puppies in cages, the store stank so bad when we walked in I had to put my nose in my shirt. The owners were sitting in chairs in the doorway, food supplies were scattered on the floor, the back door was open to people bbq’ing and I think the ONLY reason they checked on the dogs were because we walked in to the store. I was horrified by the conditions, absolutely HORRENDOUS!!! I walked in spent two minutes wishing I could adopt the two dogs and waked back out. I was with my sister and we couldn’t even talk for a block because of the poor puppies.

This is a family run neighborhood business not New Brooklyn Chic. The owners are kind, extend themselves to help customers, and share product knowledge. The prices are slightly lower than surrounding pet stores and he also delivers. I noticed that he sold birds in his store. He does crate a young Rottweiler but that may be his dog. I think this is as good or better than the other stores because he shows interest in the customer, the animal and has proficient product information.

I just walked by this place and saw a dog in a small fucking cage in the window of the store and got very upset. If they think that that’s a reasonable way to keep or care for an animal you are an idiot to board or have your pet groomed there. That place should be shut down. Fucking appalling.

I don’t know much about the animals they sell, but that’s not what I generally use a pet store for either. This place is excellent, and I’ll give you a few reasons why;
1. They stock lots of grain free pet food. The supermarkets in the area don’t, this is basically your only option.
2. It’s a family run business, which is a rapidly disappearing thing in our neighborhood.
3. They’re not out to make a buck off of your ignorance. The woman behind the counter has multiple times pointed out the cheaper alternative to something I was looking at.
So, if you’re looking to buy a pet, maybe check other places. I don’t know much about puppy mills, but they also only seem to have like four animals in there at a given time, so there’s not much selection either.
But if you’re looking for a good shop to get your pet’s food and other stuff they need, this is a quality place.

They’re friendly, they share their knowledge with customers genuinely, and they deliver! My cat has FIV, and so we only feed him high quality food from Myrtle Pets. If you love your pet, this is where it’s at!

I moved away from this neighborhood and this is the one place I miss the most! Not only are the owners friendly and make it a point to know you and your animal, they genuinely care a lot and make space available for dogs to run around! So grateful to have been able to live close by and wish they could transport themselves to my neighborhood in Queens!

They sell puppy mill dogs, their kittens are not tested for treatable diseases, they don’t vaccinate and they are on the ASCPA’s «do not buy list» for animals. I think it’s a shame that they don’t treat their pets better. the cost of testing is minimal compared to the money they make from selling the puppies and kittens. I don’t judge if you are going to buy a pedigree dog, but make sure you know the breeders and the health and the living conditions of the mother/​father when buying. I don’t think this store will be willing to show you these things and that is worrisome. Myrtle Pets needs to change their practices and truly represent the Bed Stuy/​CH community.

Myrtle Pets has just won my heart. We were without our car this weekend and needed dog food in a pinch. I called myrtle pets based on reviews from a quick Unilocal search to see if they had our dog’s brand and flavor in stock, the price, and to inquire about delivery. Literally, within 17 minutes a 25 lb bag was delivered to our door! The price of the bag plus (free) delivery and a tip was the same price that we pay at a big box pet shop. Myrtle Pets is the epitome of a neighborhood-​based small business, and quite frankly the couple who runs it is almost a stereotype of a «wholesome dog-​loving business owner.» Seriously, they could be on commercials. I make a point to go to Myrtle Pets for my pet supplies needs.
They have a good selection of dog food brands, and they’re happy to special order anything you want. If you bring your dog into the store, s/​he is guaranteed cuddles and samples of a variety of treats. The owners are also incredibly thoughtful and helpful. They made a point to offer their FREE delivery service during a snowstorm when I was buying pet supplies (e.g. a giant bag and multiple cans of dog food) that were clearly much too heavy for a 5′ something lady to carry home on her own. They delivered these items the very same day, at no extra charge! As the previous examples show, the owners are awesomely dedicated and enthusiastic about what they do and it’s amazing to have a store like this so close to where I live.

I’ve been buying my dog’s food from this store for years and Jerry personally drops off the 50lbs bag of dog food at my place. They don’t sell you any commercial crap, only premium products, and the price is great. These are good, honest people, really friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend!

I always see a lot of poor reviews for this place because of the conditions and lets just say a few things;
First of all, pretty much every dog comes from puppy mills. And even ‘breeders’ might as well be puppy mills, cranking out as many puppies as they can from bitches who should only have 1 – 3 litters tops. I’ve talked to ‘breeders’ who were LICENSED who said their bitch was at her 7^th litter. So get your heads out of your butts. I in no way support puppy mills, all my dogs have been rescues but the simple fact of it is, people buy puppies.
Second of all cages get dirty, you clean them at the end of the day and then start all over again. It happens. It is by far not the worse I’ve ever seen. The only issue I had with cages is there was one dog on a cage a little to small for him. He could turn around and such but I do wish he was in a bigger cage. However I’m sure he was someones random decision to get a big dog without thinking about it and thus he’s doomed because all people want are small dogs.
They have a back yard to the place, which I’m sure they let the dogs out to play. Also those people LOVE pets, there’s no way they’d ‘abuse’ these animals. After the way they treated my dog? I don’t want to shop anywhere else! I was just walking by with my dog and my cat, who travels on my shoulders, to another destination and they stopped to say hello. They gave my dog two treats (and I’m not talking milk bones), and gave my cat a can of wet food and I wasn’t even shopping!
As it turns out my cat loved the wet food so when I came back I decided to actually buy a few of the same brands. They gave my dog another treat and threw in a different flavor of cat food to see if she liked that just as much. In a city where people treat you like they’d rather have you throw money at them and leave the store ASAP to get a little customer service with a friendly smile they’re doing things right. These people are A+ and all the hipsters need to chill the fuck and stop shopping at a chain store (like NYC pets who are one of the aforementioned) and give your money to local businesses who actually know what they’re doing.

Jerry is super nice and his kids are wonderful. He genuinely cares about his customers and their pets and even came and visited me at my shop to say hello.

I’m hard-​pressed to praise this place without mirroring earlier reviews. I’ve always had a positive experience in this little shop: the people are friendly and very helpful, and it seems whenever i go there I get free samples: cat food, treats, anything that happens to be handy. It makes me suspect that Jerry has charmed all his pet food providers, he has such a stockpile of samples!
In fact, I was just there this afternoon. As I was hauling my selections to the counter, he handed me two 1.7 oz. sample-​bags of cat food, saying «Here, your kitty might like these,» then he paused for a second, «your cat’s not a big kitty, is it, not overweight?» «Nope,» I said. «Good, try this out,» he says, handing me the bags.
I thanked him, and turned to his daughter who was running the register. While I was putting away my card, I looked down into my tote bag, which I had laid on the counter to receive the big old bag of IAMS I’d chosen, plus several cans of Weruva. I noticed he’d slipped several more sample bags in there.

Incidentally, the Weruva canned cat foods were 50 cents cheaper than I’d seen at stores in Manhattan. Can’t beat that!
