yeah — they’re the worst. especially if you’re a woman but just in general don’t go to this place. every time they’ve fixed a flat of mine it has gone flat again the next day. they’re uncommunicative — they just take your bike and look at you weird and do whatever and then shrug their shoulders and charge an arm and a leg. never again.

I came to get my chain fixed. The guy recommended that I get it replace it. He said it would take 20 minutes but so far it’s been 2 hours. I’m standing here soaked because being bike-​less I was caught walking in the rain when I should have ridden home already. The other people who walked into the shop after me have already had their bikes fixed and left long ago. He told me that I could leave and he’d call when the bike was done, but in that time he worked on everyone else’s bikes. I’m never coming back here and neither should anyone else. Watch… I bet he’s going to charge me for the extra time it took to do the work…

I am often in this shop to get some free air in my tires (crappy bushwick roads nock the air out of my bike so easily). Bought one bike here about 2 years ago, and have never had any problems with it, their annual tune up policy, or the establishment itself.

Could not have had a better experience! Not only were the prices the best we found in BK, but the guys at the shop were super helpful, unbelievably patient, and rad. Max worked with us and hooked us up with some great rentals, and Peter and the other guys even helped us with a bike that wasn’t from their shop when we popped in later in the week! Thanks so much guys for all your help and for being great humans, we’ll definitely be back in when we’re next in town!

They’re great. Came in to the shop because it was close to work. I was afraid I might have to get a warped rim replaced, turns out it just needed to be adjusted. Got all problems addressed, including the breaks! All it took is 15 minutes and got a good price too. Great experience overall!

Went to 10+ bike stores in Bk to find a bike that was for my height (5’3… On a good day)
They were the only ones that had more than one option and wasn’t a total mess…

I’d like to start this review off by saying I am in no way new to cycling & this is my second (and last) interaction with this bike shop.
I work a couple blocks away from NBKC which is why I made my first visit about a year ago. I needed a back tube replacement & since I was in a bit of a rush I asked them to do it for me. That went great, no problems after that. Fast forward a bit, I sold that bike & ended up buying a road bike to change it up a bit. Turns out, I could careless about gears so I was back on the market to get myself a fixed/​single speed bike again which is what brought me back to NBKC.
I already knew what I wanted, unfortunately they didn’t have the bike I wanted in the color I was looking for so I ordered it. Super nice mechanic Jon rang me up with my deposit & told me it would be ordered the following afternoon & to expect its arrival in 4 – 5 days– sweet.
A week passes & I call the shop to check the status of my bike, I’m told it’s in! I run over to the shop right after work to be told it was a mistake. A very, very, rude employee nonchalantly told me he had made a mistake & was «totally sorry» about the misunderstanding without once looking up from his phone. I gave my name when I called, if he noticed he made a mistake, why didn’t he just call me (my number was on file) & save me the inconvenience of running over.
Fast forward to 3 weeks later, mind you the bike should have arrived 5 days after being ordered, I come into the shop to get my other bikes back tube fixed. I walk in, not even looking to find out where my bike was but to get a tube & Jon points to a guy at the register & says «that’s the guy you wanna talk to about your bike.» At this point I’m very confused but I go on to approach the man behind the counter (apparently, the owner) about my bike.
I ask him if he has any idea when my bike will be in & he blankly stares at me asking «what bike?». I go on to tell him I put a $ 350 deposit on an order 3 weeks ago & still haven’t received any word on it. I give him my receipt, he looks it up & tells me it was never ordered! He apologizes & goes on to tell me that he is usually in charge of orders but was away and the person who was left to do it «didn’t do his fucking job.» He also assured me that «this never happens at this shop».
That being said, he ordered the bike that day & gave me free shipping. I basically saved $ 30 because of an employee fuck up on a $ 700 bike which really doesn’t do much for me. Honestly, I was expecting them to do more for me considering they inconvenienced me for a month but whatever, I’m just never going to go there again. Jon also replaced my back tube (after two days of waiting for them to have tubes in stock) for free which was nice. This bike shop sucks & lacks professionalism & customer service to the nth degree. Save yourself time & go to a better shop. The only reason I’m giving this shop 2 stars is because Jon was awesome. Super cool guy who does his job & I appreciate that.

I have never dealt with such unprofessional and rude people in my life.
After my own experience and in reading these other reviews I wonder if the owner of this shop has some type of issue with women. I felt completed

I have never had a bad experience here. Got my wife’s bike for a steal and upgraded several components on my Fugi. Sure, their retail markup is a little high, but that’s how it is here. Fortunately, they except swaps and trades which is awesome. I was able to stretch my dollar pretty far all things considered. Repair service is top-​notch too!

I just had the worst bike shop experience with them. I lost a rear axle nut while I was changing my rear tire. So I brought the one I already had to them, and it took them ten minutes to find «the right one.» So I come back home with the nut, all excited to put my wheel back on, screw the nut in, but it’s too tight. I keep screwing it in anyway because I believe they gave me the right one. But it’s stuck now! I bring the wheel to them, and they try to take off the nut for five seconds, and say there’e nothing they can do about it, I need to cut the axle off and get a new one. And that I should’ve brought the wheel to get the right nut for it, not just the other nut. Like it’s my fault that they never told me that but just gave me the wrong nut in the first place. How incompetent and dishonest is that?! You, supposedly the bike expert, failed to find the right size of a nut, ruining the customer’s bike wheel, and blame it on the customer? Lame. Do not bring your bike here!

These guys are awesome! No egos, super helpful, and willing to go the extra mile to help you get set up. I LOVE my new bike.

Went to another bike shop in Brooklyn I was told had great vintage bicycles when I got to the shady spot I Was told I’d have to forgoe a months rent for a 30 year old bike from Schwinn. Found this place as I sobbed my way back to the L train. It had a really smart staff and was very well stocked with some cool stuff I hadn’t seen before. Oh yeah and they had the exact same bike the other shop had for almost half the price. When I told the staff they laughed and said I wasn’t the first. Lesson learned. Will def be coming back.

They have very attractive flat black single speeds (flip flop) built by Zycle Fix. They ride beautifully. The cheapest is $ 345. Also if you don’t like like a part of the bike like the handle bars which you are looking at they will swap it from a bike with equal or lesser value. Also if you buy a bike here the first flat you get they will repair for free which makes me feel values as a person and customer.
I wish they would have took the time to put my handle bars on straight though.
Also on some of the other bad reviews on here an NBKC employee or owner thuggishly responded to the reviewers. This is how you do business? If you are going to refute someone’s review be more respectful and mature about it.
I WOULD buy another bike here. They clearly have excellent taste when it comes to building great looking bikes. I wish I could say the same for other bike shops in the area. My favorite bike shop in NYC so far just don’t talk down to me like I’m bike illiterate or try and sell me a bunch of crap I don’t want next time I come in.
Update:
Bought a new bike here again. After five miles of riding the back wheel is scraping against the frame? Did they forget to tighten the bolts? Also three spokes fell out at about 20 miles. It would be nice if the people at this shop took pride in their work and tuned them better before sending them off with a customer. Anyway they didn’t have any straight bars to swap out so they cut some for me and put them on my bike. I tipped the guy for this but now I wish I wouldn’t have not only because he seemed ungrateful but because I’m walking my bike because the back wheel won’t turn without having to kick it back in place. Mind you the wheel is still perfectly straight so it’s not a bent wheel. Shotty workmanship from the employees. Takes some pride in what you do or find another job.

Best of all the bike shops in the area without a doubt.
The staff are attentive and really listened to what I needed and gave me the honest advice about how to fix up my bike. Each time I’ve been here they go above and beyond, making some minor adjustments for free, etc. And, they actually know their stuff, unlike some of the other bike shops around where it just seems like a reason for a bunch of bros to hang out rather than actually work. I recommend NBKC to anyone looking to buy a bike or for tune ups.

Both my tires were pretty worn and I was overdue to replace them, so I did my research and went to NBKC for a new set of gator skins. Peter estimated that the job would cost $ 60/​tire + the cost of a new inner tube + labor, but later we found out that the tires were $ 50 each and a coworker said labor fees could be waived since I was buying a set. He hooked me up with my new wheels within 20 minutes and I’m pretty pleased with the service and quality so far. Here’s hoping the guys in the shop won’t have to see me for a while; I don’t want to get a flat anytime soon!

Customer service? What’s customer service. The guy helping me sure as he’ll had NO IDEA. Reallllllly not cool. I came way out of my way for this and in the middle of my work day. That includes the other guy in shop… Seriously, I just feel … Hurt.
As if I did something wrong… I went there to try to buy a bike. I thought bike shops did this… Whatever. I’ll go to b’s bikes. They don’t suck.

Owners mad cool, mechanic knows what he’s doing and they don’t screw you on the dollar. What more can you really ask for? Definitely geared to selling complete bikes more so then specialty parts (in my opinion) but you can always get your questions answered and i can’t say it enough, the people here are genuine and know what they are doing. Don’t be afraid to pop in and put some air in your tires. This is a neighborhood spot you want to keep alive.

Stopped in here today simply walking by. By far my favorite bike spot I’ve seen yet, but that’s also probably due the fact that it very much feels like a skate shop (since it also is).
Really cool and laid back spot. Don’t come here if you’re looking for something specific, this is a place to find Solé bikes and super-​reasonably priced used bikes. Loads of interesting accessories. Blaring hip hop. Odds and ends of clothing. Friendly staff.
I think this place reeks of Bushwick. Love it or hate it, up to you.
