Specialties

We are a furniture repair shop. We specialize in furniture restoration and offer upholstery and wood finishing services. We finish new pieces, refinish old, and no job is too small. We are artists by nature, and provide the attention to detail that only an artist can master.

We offer upholstery service modern to antique furniture from tufting and nail heads to slipcovers and throw pillows.

We also offer wood finishing, gluing loose joints, reattach broken legs, restore chipped veneer, touch ups, strip and refinish, rejuvenate, polishing, lacquer, hand rubbed finishes, kitchen cabinet repairs.

We use green and environmentally safe products as well.

History

Established in 2004.

NYCoyne is a family run business. Company owners Michael & Cassy Coyne are married and both artist living in Brooklyn, NY. Michael has been in the finishing business for eight years with the start of his first company Starving Artists which was a collaborative group of artists.

We are also hunters gatherers. Professionals in antique restoration, we started as a company with the mission to restore articles of the past. In our journey over the past 8 years, we have teetered on the line of collectors, played with the title of «hoarders» (only for a while, promise) and now we are gathering our knowledge, experience, and most importantly for you, our awesome collection into one store. We are also Wednesday’s Pick Up.

I was born in upstate New York and studied at School of Visual Arts in NYC. I now live in Brooklyn and work with furniture in my shop or on location. My favorite type of furniture to work with is mid-​century danish. My favorite pass time is going out and getting vintage furniture.

I do not know if 5 stars expresses how incredibly pleased I am with the result of an armchair Michael Coyne repaired and reupholstered for me!
The armchair had been sitting in my parents’ attic for about 15 years and needed new springs in the seat and chair-​back, as well as new upholstery. The fabric that I wanted had been discontinued so what I could get was 3 yards with a slightly different color than the rest. I was accordingly very anxious that it would look good, but Michael used the fabric such that it is impossible to tell that there is any difference.
The craftsmanship alone is absolutely beautiful, and he also used the fabric so that the overall pattern of the fabric nicely matches the shape of the chair, creating a harmonious effect. I’m having work done on my apartment so the chair is at my office temporarily, where everyone who sees it comments on how stunning it looks!!!
I’d also like to note both how accommodating Michael was for dropping off and picking up the chair with my schedule, and how reasonable the price. When I chose out the fabric, the store mentioned that they did repairs and quoted me a price that was enormously high by comparison. Given the beautiful end result, I feel confident that not only did I have the best person for the job, but the most reasonable in price!

Very Impressed by this company! From start to finish, Mike pretty much new exactly what we wanted and how to do it. Really a great feeling to find a small family run business that is so good at its trade. After they refinished our kitchen cabinets, we got so many compliments from other trademasters as to how good of a job Nycoyne did. Highly recommend using them!

I was so upset when a guest smashed a hole in my most prized piece of furniture, a beautiful, intricately hand-​carved wooden screen. All I could do was gather up the little pieces of wood that had flown all over the room. I thought it would be impossible to fix, but I heard about Mike and Cassy from a friend, so I asked them to come take a look. I don’t know how they did it, but with a combination of glue, paint, wood stain, and magic, they made the damage disappear. Now I can’t even tell which panel got smashed. Their pricing was reasonable, and they even touched up some other knicks and scratches on the screen at no extra charge, so now it looks better than ever.
