NYU Tandon School of Engineering

In the old days Poly was known as the best. However, the dropout rate was nearly twice thar of MIT (not good for our ratings). We had to be better to survive the curricula. NYU adds to Poly and Tandon is good. It’s all good!

I went here for a few semesters as an undergraduate before I transferred out. The courses here are difficult, I wouldn’t see that as a problem if it wasn’t so difficult for me to find anyone to study with. A lot of people tend to keep to themselves and don’t really socialize, there aren’t many girls you’ll find quite a few more painfully socially awkward guys at poly than at a non-​engineering school. On the positive side, all of the professors I went to for help during office hours were helpful.
When I’ve come back for Spring Fest (an animé convention the Poly Animé Club holds), I’ve always been able to tell who was a poly student, and who was going to the convention. There’s this lonely sadness you can just see in the faces of poly students. It’s not the type of thing you can describe unless you see it, but once you’ve seen it, you’ll always be able to recognize it. If you’ve been to poly you know what I’m talking about. It also took some of my friends who stayed there more than 4 years to graduate. However, they all have decent jobs now, and one of them is in medical school. You’ll have to bust your ass at poly, you’ll be sad and lonely, you won’t socialize much, but at the end of it all, you should get a decent job. But you’ll still have tons of debt because now they have that sky high NYU tuition. Seriously, only come here if you’re prepared to bust your ass studying and willing to take on a lot of student debt. I transferred out because the stress of a long commute every day and complete lack of a social life were taking a toll on my physical and mental health.
The one thing about Poly that I have only good memories of was the dining hall. The food could get expensive sometimes, but it was always good quality and tasted great. Breakfast was always reasonably priced. From what I remember, they even had decent vegan options from time to time and always had good vegetarian options.

If you are planning to attend this school, I suggest you give it another thought. It is different than NYU in the city in virtually every way despite the same name. The quality of professors, the student body (75% admissions rate, nearly 50% drop-​out rate before graduation), and the facilities are very old (it is in brooklyn). The school has undergone many improvements since it merged with NYU in 2014, but I think many years must go by realistically until the student body at Poly resembles that at other campuses in the city such as stern, CAS, courant.

This place make me miss Boston in NYC for the first time! missed my Northeastern University BOSTON same kind of sitting with Red Chairs outside the Uni :)

I didn’t attend this university, but after getting admitted and paying the tuition deposit, I decided to go to another school. I was able to get the deposit refunded based on a special exception and felt grateful for their compassionate customer service.
The front entrance of the main building does not allow visitors at all, and their security is rude.

Been a dedicated Gymer and breakfast-​lunch goer at this place. GYm is not so big, but if you can avoid the peak times (after 5pm), great place to work out. It has everything you may need. Breakfast bar is great with great selection and cafeteria has many lunch options. My fav is the sushi, soups and daily specials.

Not worth the money or time. I quit after the first semester.
Horrible directors, horrible professors.
No student support.
Bottom line is money for this place.

Options for breakfast in the area are limited. And expensive. A co-​worker let me know that all we had to do was show our ID and we were able to get the same discount as the students and faculty. I’ve been coming ever since. There are a few items that have comparable costs to other establishments but all in all, they’re cheaper.

Polytechnic Institute has had its reputation of being one of the most challenging and schools in the area for engineering and technology. The North Jersey/​NYC area has a lot to offer in terms of «engineering related» schools (NJIT, Stevens, NYIT, etc.) However, this school has definitely holds its own and has gathered quite a strong reputation for itself. Ever since the acquisition from NYU, Poly has even more advantage for employers in the industry who know where to recruit to find a very intelligent employee. They were also one of the first to delve into the cyber security area before every school jumped the bandwagon. Sure the campus is small, but the location is amazing, and the reputation is growing at a ridiculous pace.

Wow! First to review?!? Well, I am the proud Class of 2007 and graduated with my Bachelors of Science in Chemical and Biological Engineering. I still remember what I was told the first day of Freshmen Orientation. «Take a good look at the person to your right, your left, in front of you, and behind you. At least one person you just looked at, will not be with you come graduation.»
Yeah, that not only scared me half to death, but I knew this was only for serious engineering students. It was true — actually — only one person that was next to me at orientation made it to graduation with me. It was the hardest four years of my life, and the greatest decision I have made to come to this institution.
Professors are your backbone, your classmates your reality check, your family your lifeline, and your degree the sweetest moment of glory you’ve ever felt. I’m a bit sad about the name change to the Polytechnic Institute of NYU, but it is still good ‘ol Poly to me.
