If you consider a place California style tacos. You better understand what you are offering! Lol The thing about tacos in CA is that the simplicity is what makes them so god dam good. And I guess that in NYC they didn’t figure that there is so much into a good taco than just call it CA style. Their service is definitely a CA style! Lol, but their tacos have a long way to go. I had chicken tacos and beef burrito. Something is missing. I am not sure what. Maybe the right mix to create that unique taste of CA tacos. It wasn’t bad, it wasn’t amazing. Just OK.

I’ve been coming here on and off ever since it opened and I enjoy it. When I visit my parents after a visit here, I brag to my parents about it and they get jealous. I’m Puertorican and Ecuadorian so I’m not an expert in Mexican food. I do know my latin flavors though and it tastes pretty legit to me. My whole family loves this place. If I’m in the area, I eat here or bring some home. My choices are either the tacos or the Super Nachos(or both). Some people gave this place bad reviews and suggested Chipotle’s instead. I don’t understand that because I despise Chipotle’s food. I’m guessing those negative reviews of this place is based on personal palettes. Give this place a try!

Wow, no comment on the other way the chicken taco tasted. Not only do they charge extra for what one would think is automatic on a taco(cheese) but the chicken tasted like it was days old and drenched in some kind of wierd red juice. Didn’t think you could go wrong with a chicken taco but here you totally can

***Cash Only*** Not impressed. Being from California I know what a good taco and burrito should taste like. I could have made this at home. Any saving grace is always a good home made salsa. This place again failed on that front. Green sauce was watery and had too much cilantro. Red sauce was bland and when I could taste the flavor it was sweet. Not what I expected.

100 Times Better Than Chipotle! However you want it, that’s how they’ll make it. And they are super generous with the meat and sides. I make a point of eating here at least once a week. The atmosphere is nothing fancy but who cares when you’re hungry for great California Mexican food.

I love tex mex and this is a place for a quick bite. Don’t expect much. Just eat to your hunger and move on. Go because you’ll be hungry as you see the food there. I have been here many a hungry times.

1) Best Burrito I’ve had in NYC.* The San Joaquin is sensational. 2) Blows Chipotle out of the water. If you’re on Court St and want this style Mexican food, don’t sleep on California Taqueria! Have been coming here for lunch when I’m passing through the neighborhood for the past year. Usually get the plates: rice, beans, guac, pico de gallo, and a meat or two. They’re awesome. Have started getting the burritos, and they’re sensational. Reasonable price too. Locally owned and operated for over 25 years can’t be beat!

Being the ultimate Mexican food critic, I’m impressed. Guacamole was good not too liquidy, salsa roja was good. The green salsa could be spicier. The carne asada was well seasoned and PERFECTLY cooked. Needless to say, I’ll be back. Next time I’ll judge their rice. That’s where I have no room for debate. Either it’s good or it’s not.

Haters can keep hating — I love this place. Cheap, simple, delicious. Veggie burrito.

This place is a bit dead, or off… I don’t know why. The service feels more like you’re being served at a taco truck than an actual restaurant. Go up to the counter, order what you want and bam, it comes out in a disposable plate. The whole vibe of this place is 1990’s. They seriously need an upgrade and provide better customer service. I ordered a vegetarian burrito, it was good a bit cold, no sauce was offered, I had to ask. Wish it looked more enticing, but nonetheless, this veggie burrito was on point and satisfied my appetite. Overall is good, not big on the dining experience here, better ask for take out.

I’ve frequented many a taqueria during my time in New York in endless pursuit of the perfect steak taco. I’d walked by this place a few times, and decided to give it a go. I noticed on the menu outside that the tacos are quite sparingly dressed(just pico de gallo and lettuce), which was a bit surprising considering the tacos were $ 3 – 4 each, but not a deal breaker(though I am a sucker for complimentary sour cream!) The guy at the counter was a little gruff, but nice enough. I liked how the steak is kept marinating whole and gets cut to order — it was definitely juicy. I was happy to see that extra cilantro was complimentary, given that a generous helping is often what makes a good taco great. They are very generous with their portions — a great heap of meat — but the choice to dress it with plain lettuce is puzzling. It was very bland and only added unwelcome texture. The pico de gallo also seemed a little mushy, and the cilantro didn’t jump out. I had hoped for better flavour with the extra cilantro on top, but was disappointed to find that it when it was chopped, huge chunks of stem were left in. Honestly, it just tasted like crunchy greens with none of that wonderful, fresh flavour. The large chunks of steak were fantastic, but the dressing killed it. The stinginess on toppings was a big thumbs down retrospectively, considering places like Los Tacos No. 1 in Chelsea dress their tacos with pico, cilantro, onions, sour cream, AND guac at no extra charge. And so, the quest continues!

After 14 years in California I can tell you the basics of this cuisine are fresh ingredients, spices, and grease(the good grease that makes you lick your fingers). Mexican food is delicious. California style Tex-Mex food is also delicious. This place is neither, nor is it any good. Bland, watered down flavors and bad salsa. Even the worst taqueria in CA is better(and cheaper) than this one.

I went here over the weekend on my walk through Cobble Hill and figured it was about time to check it out. The pricing was decent, 8.99 for a burrito with chicken and the portion size was large. I thought it tasted good and had all the fixings. I felt it had a little too much rice and all the good stuff was towards the end of the burrito.

Have to agree with the general consensus, this place is pretty not good. Having passed by for years I felt it was my duty to check it out at least once. Was kind of hoping to that it would exceed my already low expectations after reading so many negative reviews, and I suppose they did, but marginally. Most previous(recent) complaints and criticisms are on point, the only things I can contribute are that your stomach may be in pain for a day following a meal here, and get extra napkins. –Extra emphasis on rude service and a dirty interior. –Portions are huge, and some things are tasty… but it was a big hot mess of a meal and overall I regret it. I wanted to enjoy my food, and then stick out my tongue at all the negativity, but this time… I can’t.

What can I say, I’m from California and California has much better burritos. If you’re name was Brooklyn Taqueria, I would be like, yeah, brooklyn can’t make good burritos, what can you do but when you say California you’re putting expectations up way to high people…

I actually have no idea why it has taken me this long to write a review for this place. This is my absolute favorite burrito place in Brooklyn. I am a huge fan on the tex mex style burrito, and they do it perfectly. They craft your burrito in front of you and you can specify exactly how you like it. I am literally never left disappointed. Their quesadillas are out of this world too. The only complaint I have about this place is that I almost always have to take them to go. Their burritos are so huge and messy to eat that I am slightly ashamed to eat them in public.
