So, it’s 1pm and they just called to cancel my 1:30, as the doctor is in traffic, which I’d shrug off if it wasn’t so clear that timing and keeping appts is such an issue here. I was offered an apt at the end of the day that I can’t make, and after that, there are no apt til the new year. So now I’m stuck scrambling for someone else to address an acute pain issue. Not appreciated.

I should have taken the warning signs that this place was not worth wasting my time over by reading the Unilocal reviews alone, which suggested that this place has serious administrative problems. Or when they called to reschedule my physical therapy appointment. Twice. Worse, the second time they rescheduled, they could only change my appointment to a time during work hours, requiring that I take time off work to attend.
At that point, I considered cancelling the appointment, and really I should have cancelled it. But instead, I called the office to reconfirm that, yes, I had an appointment that afternoon, and, yes, it would be a $ 30 copay from my insurance. With ²⁰⁄₂₀ hindsight, I think the neck and back pain I had been experiencing must have made me temporarily insane, because I did leave work and get on the Q train back to Brooklyn to go see these people.
By the time I got off the train in Park Slope, there was a message for me, cancelling my appointment.
There was a family emergency, requiring the therapist to leave immediately for Jersey. Obviously these things happen, and when I asked the receptionist if there was anyone else who could see me, she shook her head.
«We only have physical therapists here right now,» she replied.
Apparently they had erroneously scheduled me with the chiropractor, rather than the physical therapist I had requested. Thus, this time their incompetence paid off in my favor: finally, I would get to see a physical therapist! I happily filled out my forms and was led to lay down on a water bed back massager thing, which the receptionist turned on while I waited to see the PT.
The water bed thing was awesome. For a precious few minutes, things were looking up for me!
Alas, any happiness I could feel upon successfully scheduling an appointment at Park Slope Therapy and Rehabilitation Center was fleeting. I realized this when, after five minutes on the water bed, the receptionist marched up to me, an apologetic look on her face.
Apparently, despite telling me multiple times that they would take my Oxford insurance with a $ 30 copay for the appointment, this was not, actually, the case. Instead, I was welcome to stay but would need to pay the entire $ 100 fee for the appointment.
All the while, I am still on my back on the massage waterbed, which is bubbling away. I ask the receptionist to turn it off, and then expressed, as politely as I could given the circumstances, how completely absurd this entire experience had been.
For some reason (Stockholm Syndrome, perhaps?), I was still willing to go through the appointment, but I asked if they would reduce the $ 100 fee, given, well, everything that I had experienced up to that point, but particularly because they had reassured me that I was covered for their services under my insurance. I was even willing to split the difference between my copay and the full price, which I thought was more than reasonable.
Unfortunately, the receptionist informed me, only the chiropractor had the authority to lower their fees and he was out in New Jersey. (There are apparently no phones in New Jersey so calling him was out of the question, I suppose).
I attempted to reason with her. Surely, there was some other professional there with an iota of common sense, who would want to attempt to make it right with me? One of the elusive physical therapists, perhaps?
No, she wouldn’t let me speak to them. At this point, I asked for my referral prescription back, and walked out.
Not only did I waste my personal leave time at work, but, as a result of this experience I had to delay initiating physical therapy for an additional two weeks. They had wasted a week of my time with the rescheduling, and then it took me an additional week to get an appointment with another physical therapy clinic, meaning two more weeks of not addressing my pain.
I would recommend the Park Slope Therapy and Rehabilitation Center for Kafka devotees and people with a lot of spare time. For everyone else, there are plenty of other options in the neighborhood.

I had an appointment scheduled with Keith Williams through ZocDoc. I waited for over 45 minutes and Keith never showed up.

Hmm… they don’t respond to emails. What’s up with that? Called them at noon (that’s when they open), and a woman with a soft voice said they don’t have an MRI machine and would send a script to Stand Up MRI (around the area). They said they accept Aetna, however it must be an out of network referral as they are not on the website. Too bad.

This place is simply fantastic.

I’ve never had back pain in my life, so when it started on a Saturday afternoon while at work, I got scared. I work as a veterinary nurse and bending down to see patients was unbearable. I went to my regular doctor on Monday, who told me to stay in bed until Wednesday and take some meds for pain and a muscle relaxant.
By Wednesday morning I was still uncomfortable, and now I was groggy from all the medications (which didn’t seem to help with the pain, although it helped me sleep through it). I was terrified that I had ruptured something in my spine and my regular doctor was threatening me with an expensive MRI.
I had passed by the chiropractic center across from the Tea Lounge multiple times. Desperate to feel better since I had to return to work the next day, I walked in and saw Dr. Keith Williams. He took me right in and went to work figuring out what was wrong. Turns out it was a very knotted, spasm-​ing muscle that was causing the pain. Using different techniques, he was able to target the problem areas and get them to feel better. He was great at explaining everything he was doing.
After 45 minutes, he told me to stand up and walk around. I felt a difference right away. He said the result should only get better and that tomorrow I should be feeling very good for my return to work.
So happy I went here!

This place just opened a couple of months ago, and despite the dust still settling (still working on getting the credit card machine up and running, decorating the rooms, etc.), I can truly say both Dean and Keith are great practitioners with a genuine interest in helping their clients. I appreciated them being flexible in terms of a customized payment plan to work with my budget. Dean has a more traditional chiropractic approach (standard muscle-​stimulation warm up, followed by traditional neck/​back adjustments), while Keith does a little more stretch/​massage work in addition to the neck/​back cracking.
