I have to say I had to wait almost 2 hours before I had my procedure done but the staff made it worth it. Everyone was super nice, and my doctor Eleanor was extremely nice, informative. and fun. Any place that has «Fun» under any gynecological exam is worth checking out.
I left feeling fine, and having all of my concerns answered.
Be prepared to be there for a few hours, but it is totally worth it.

I’ve been here twice since moving to Brooklyn, after graduating I’ve had a hard time finding doctors who are accepting new patients so PPNYC has been my source for women’s health. Before making an appointment here, be prepared for WAIT TIMES, both in getting an appointment and on the day of your appointment. For non-​emergencies like exams and birth control refill, it’s best to try to make an appointment a month in advance because the wait is that long, and even worse at the Manhattan location. Once you’re there, expect to wait a few hours — this is not the kind of place you can go on your lunch break. The shortest waits are in the morning on weekdays. I had a Monday 9:40am appointment, was getting my blood pressure and paperwork done at 10:20, went in for the exam at 10:40, and was out by 11, and that’s awesome, as good as it gets. But once you’re in the room they are efficient, and by the time I was walking home at 11:25 my prescription was filled at my pharmacy.
The office staff is friendly enough and the doctors are wonderful. I saw Susanne (not that you really get to choose) and she was great and kept me comfortable through my first ever wellness exam. You definitely feel comfortable talking to them about your questions/​concerns/​needs/​meds/​etc.

My visits here have been what I would expect from a low-​cost, walk-​in clinic. «Okay» staff and long waits. I always have to wait over an hour past my scheduled appointment time. I can’t imagine how long people without appointments have to wait. During my previous visit, my doctor was phenomenal. She was genuinely friendly. She was knowledgeable and helpful. She made me feel comfortable while also feeling taken care of. This facility opens at 8am, but they didn’t even start calling for patients until 8:30. Be willing to deal with long wait times!

I came her to get a abortion and they was so nice especially the black lady with red hair they took me in but the wait is kinda long they took care of me n always asking how u feel I went home with pain but they call n ask how u got home thank god for these women god bless

Great office! I’ve been going to PP in the Midwest for all of my birth control and women’s a health needs for 10 years. I was a little scared about going in NYC for the first time, but the staff was amazing! Welcoming and kind. As usual, there was a pretty long wait, but that’s what I’ve always expected. My dr was a real dream though. I went for a minor surgical procedure and she was very calm and professional. I will definitely be going to this location again for any other appointments I may need to set up.

Planned Parenthood is place where you can come and get your medical service done privately. The girls at the desk are usually very pleasant, depends i guess. But my over experience with and every appointment i had were very informative. Thanks guys!

I will never be back. Came here between insurances and it was frustrating yet comical. This is where I picture the Muary show casts for each episode. The waiting room was packed, probably more people in there than fire codes would allow. I arrived 4 minutes late due to my lack of direction and their extensive security procedures. The receptionist told me upon checking in that they were running 3.5 hours behind schedule. A few minutes later she called me and stated that because I was late, I would not be seen today. An unpleasant experience all around.

Friendliest staff I’ve ever encountered. Dr. Stacey, nurses Andie and Paige are God sent. Not worried about wait time with staff like this. Its rare and very much appreciated. Thank you! I will def be going back for all of my feminine needs.

Sorry, guys. I know you’ve had a hard time and you need all the good publicity you can get. But you wrote the wrong information on my medical chart, you made me come back a second time and wait in a ridiculously long line for a simple billing question that could have been answered over the phone, you didn’t give me a thorough exam (which was what I wanted, and PAID for), and at least one of your workers was truly rude, while another was half-​asleep (I suspect this is the one who messed up my chart). I’d be more than happy to help recruit donors for you and otherwise sing your praises – but first you need to get your act together!

Ugh. I’m really, really disappointed with my first (and probably last) experience with Planned Parenthood. It’s a shame, because I believe in what they stand for: reproductive freedom/​choice, LGBTQ care, sexual health and education, etc.
The first problem I encountered was how they handle their financial services. On the website, it seems easy; «we’ll work with you» is the cheery statement. In reality, I was told my appointment would be $ 175 since I do not have insurance and that if I wanted to see what aid I might be eligible for, I would have to make a separate appointment. After I explained that none of this was on the site, I was seen by the «financial counselor.» She didn’t seem to understand or care that I recently became a freelancer and do not have a set monthly income besides unemployment. Without telling me what the scale was, she determined that I didn’t qualify for a sliding fee. THEN we went back and forth about how much I could cough up if the cost was split into 2 payments. After feeling like I was haggling at a flea market, I agreed to her number.
Then the exam. Ugh. The nurse practitioner, Janeen, was nice enough, I guess, but she seemed really tired. She said she was having trouble with her eyes, but she couldn’t start or finish a sentence at first.
I was on edge the entire time, and apologized. Janeen waved me off. I was also pretty nervous before the pelvic. I told Janeen this and she was unconcerned. «You put things in your v*gina, right?» She said. [Not sure how Unilocal feels about anatomical terms, excuse the *]. She wasn’t mean about it but it was a weird thing to say.
Anyway, the exam HURT. A LOT. The gyn I saw when I had insurance was so quick I barely had time to register the tiny pinch. This was nothing like that; the pain was HORRIBLE. The student doc who did my first pelvic didn’t hurt me as badly as this. I started to cry and told Janeen to stop. She did… And then said she would be back and left the exam room. For like ten minutes.
After all that… The PP people wanted $ 20 a pack for birth control — that I didn’t even WANT but was foisted on me by Janeen to regulate my cycle. I was really pretty done by then, but got them to give me the script, which I can fill for cheap in Canada.
NEVER AGAIN, Planned Parenthood of Brooklyn. Never again am I spending three hours in your office.

Julia was my NP and this was one of my best experiences at a female doctor. I am so happy with the service here and treatment. The staff is very skilled and friendly. I would recommend arriving early for your appointment as it can get crowded.

The care I have gotten here is great but the follow-​up is terrible. I have been not feeling well for awhile but don’t make a lot of money (but couldn’t get any help with the appt fee) so I went here. I didn’t feel any better after the first appointment and round of drugs prescribed and they were amazing enough to make a second appointment that I didn’t have to pay for (amazing!). At the second appointment, the nurse I saw said someone would call me with the results of my tests and gave me more prescriptions but told me to hold off on filling them until the test results came in.
So I waited, and waited and no one called! I called and they said if no one called, there were no results (really?!). But then she said if there were results I’d have to make an appointment, come in and talk to them, they couldn’t just tell me on the phone.
Very frustrated, its just been a run around for a few months trying to figure the system out and I’m still not feeling well! I can’t afford another appointment so I end up being stuck, just as sick as when I went there the first time almost 2 months ago.

I never thought I’d say YAY about going to the gyno, but YAY! I had the greatest experience here today. First of all– It was FREE. I showed them my most recent paystub and how poor I am and they said my visit would be FREE. I almost died of happiness right there. I got a full annual exam, all the tests, etc all for no charge. They even said if I wanted some birth control it would be free.
Secondly, everyone was SO NICE. From the ladies at the registration desk, to the financial advisor, to the lab techs, to the doctor who examed me… they were all SO nice and made me feel really comfortable and at ease. I was dreading my appointment and I almost skipped out of there at the end I felt so good. I am so happy this place exists. I dont know what the other PP’s are like in the city, but I would recommend this one to anybody. Just go! You’ll feel so much better that you did. And will be well taken care of.

I usually take the bus Downtown Brooklyn or the train to Jay Street and be there within 20 minutes. It’s also only one stop away from my job, so I am able to go early in the morning since they close before I get off work! So this location is so convenient for me.
However, there is usually a long wait if you come there for something other than a BC pick up. Even if you have an early appointment, there are about 10 other women who also have an «early appointment.» Unless you are the first or second person there, there will still be a considerable wait. Because of this, I usually go on weekends where I don’t run the risk of being late to work.
I am also not so thrilled about the metal detector. I always have to take my belt off. So annoying.

Moving to a new city with no health insurance is no fun. It’s like you know you’re healthy, you know things are fine, but there’s this nagging feeling of «what if?»
I decided to preempt the «what if’s» and go to PP for a check-​up. I wanted to be sure to find a place in my area that I could go to if I needed to.
This PP is awesome. it’s always packed, which I think is a good sign, and it’s really efficiently run. The doctors working here are super professional, open, and kind. The staff is very helpful. I felt 100% comfortable here (as comfortable as one could be for this kind of check up.) I found my place.
I have to mention one detail in particular. Having no health insurance, I came here not knowing what it was going to cost me but expecting to shell out some cash.
My check up, with no meds or anything, was FREE. Seriously. On top of that, thanks to this PP, I now receive health benefits. They went out of their way to help me with my applications and saw to it that I received a timely response. This was months after my first attempt at receiving health benefits from the city but was denied. This kind of care makes this PP a 5 star clinic that I highly highly recommend.

I decided to go to Planned Parenthood because I wanted birth control, but was poor as sin. I’m now actually glad it worked out that way, because I really love this location!
I have slight anxiety problems, and this is always heightened when I’m in an unfamiliar place (especially when I know folks are going to be prodding around my lady bits). But the staff here is so nice and helpful that it really helped to set me at ease.
I decided on the IUD, and actually had to come back a second time because of complications due to my anatomy. I was helped by different groups of people each time, and they were all wonderful. I can’t stress how friendly the staff is.
The ladies actually performing the insertion really helped calm my nerves and guided me through the process. They were very informative and make you feel like they really care about your needs.
The only reason why I’m giving a 4 star review instead of 5 is because the wait is so long. But honestly, I think it is totally worth it because the staff is so competent and friendly. Even though I now have the insurance, I’ll be coming back to PP for any gyno needs I may have.

I went here before I was able to get insured through my bf’s company. You’ll wait a long time, but it’s significantly cheaper than other offices and you’ll get decent doctors. They really scared me by acting like I might have cancer or something, though… Doctors, please don’t act worried, call in another doctor and ask your patient if (s)he has insurance unless you’re sure there’s actually something worth worrying over. After I got insurance, I went to Valerie Wells and she didn’t notice anything strange.
The good news is you can get inexpensive BC and care if you don’t have (and can’t get) insurance. The bad news is you’ll most likely have to wait. Your appointment will most likely have to be made a month in advance and you could possibly spend the entire day in the waiting room. Also, they have to check your bag and have you walk through a metal detector which shouldn’t necessarily be a problem, but the fact that they feel the need to have that kind of security always makes me a teensy bit nervous (it’s not like it’s the only floor in the building, you know?).
This location is really convenient, as well; it’s located almost immediately next to the 2/​¾/​5 and very close to the MR.

Oh my 3 hour wait! Thank G*d I said something or it would have been 4 hours. Ladies and gents be proactive when you come here or you will waste your day waiting.
But, how can I not give 4 stars as I appreciate the services they offer, and the fact that I don’t have to pay for my BC because of my lack of health insurance and embarrassing brokassness. Just bring in your pay stubs and passport to prove your pennylessness.

I’m now insured, but I still think I would make a day of going to Planned Parenthood near Borough Hall in Brooklyn. The clinicians here are the best around, and my overall experience has always been incredibly positive.
For 2008, if you are uninsured and your income is less than $ 1,734/month (single-​person household), you can qualify for the Family Planning Benefit, which will even cover things like an IUD – heck of a lot better than any Oxford plan will do for you.
There is an entitlements person on-​site who can get you signed up, so come prepared with proof of age, citizenship, residence (lease/​utility bill), and income. If you are a student, proof of loans. If you are straight-​up broke and your parents help with your rent, you need a «letter of support».
While I’ve had several smooth sails through Brooklyn PP, I’ve had some mishaps. Like when they misplaced my chart and I waited for 2 extra hours (resolution: don’t sit that long without complaining!). And then there was the time when I thought I was going to go for the IUD. I was supposed to call a certain person on a specific flow day and be given an appointment within 48 hours for insertion. Well, that person was on vacation and she returned my voice-​mail too late. She did return my voice-​mail, though, and suggested that we could try again next cycle, but I had changed my mind (probably fate telling me that a 5 year commitment was not a good plan for mercurial me).
So yeah. PP BK. Makes you feel like you’re really part of the whole female-​in-​Brooklyn sisterhood thing.
They have dude services here as well, in case you want to make it a date.

There’s nothing more anxiety-​producing for a gal than going to the Ob/​Gyn. And there’s nothing more encouraging, empowering, and enlightening than going to PPNYC’s Borough Hall clinic.
I chucked my longtime MD for the nurse-​practictioners and MDs here. Not only are they smart, thorough, and non-​judgmental, they are backed up by the best support staff I’ve ever met at a medical facility.
From the front desk staff to the entitlement counselors (who help you with the frustration that is health insurance) to the nurses to the lab techs, everyone here is kind, warm, conscientious, and thoroughly professional.
Do not miss this exceptional place and these amazing people.
