I love this place! Very cozy, kinda romantic, great selection of ryes, and a chicken liver sandwich that’ll knock your socks off. The only thing that bugs me is that they price their Old Overholt like it’s a fancy whiskey. They should have at least one palatable cheap option, and usually that’s Overholt, but here an Overholt will set you back like seven bucks. But! great place.

Came here on a Friday night around 9, it was full but not crowded and we grabbed a cozy table by the window. Feels like you’re off the beaten path but still in a lively spot. Great menu and perfect sized small bites, I had the grilled cheese(+bacon) and tomato soup – both portions were large for a good price. That plus the whiskey sours warmed me right up! Great spot for a casual date night & drinks.

Small, quaint, and mildly off the beaten path is one of Billyburg’s better bars in Post Office. There are no stamps or packages to send here, just a stellar selection of whiskey and fun snacks at one’s disposal. This is the kind of place you’d enjoy some intimate conversation while throwing back a few and possibly nibbling on a sandwich or two. Hence, I find myself at Post Office more often than not. The interior is dark, dimly lit at night for the kind of ambiance just right for a low-key experience. There is seating along the bar area and small-ish tables of two on the main space, but any more than 20 people in here and it would feel crowded, if not somewhat full. The standing room space is minimal, which means a seat is best if one wants to stay out of the wait staff’s way. Drinks are dominated but *not limited* to their wide variety of whiskey. A lot of quality Scottish stuff in the house, though they could stand to add a few more Japanese /Taiwanese brands in the house. Whether one is more akin to scotch, bourbon, or rye, it is more than likely they’ll carry one’s preferred brand here, popularity not withstanding. Their cocktails are well made, potent, and at least for a few, quite refreshing. They’re divided into a «shaken» and«stirred» category on the menu; my favorites being the Stallion($ 11), Maiden Voyage($ 12), and the Pick-Me-Up($ 11). They also do a fabulous job with an Old Fashioned($ 11) and a Manhattan($ 11), though I’d prefer their in house renditions over run of the mill classics. Food is not a focal point, but it is here in the form of sandwiches, salads, and snacks. The heartiest of the bunch would be the sandwiches like their grilled cheese with bacon($ 8) or chicken liver bacon($ 10). The salads are simple, but the kale($ 8) has been the only one I’ve sampled. Their snacks which include deviled eggs($ 5), pickles($ 7), and a meat/cheese/bread spread(dubbed Ploughman’s Platter) at $ 16 can go well with the drinks. That said, I never come here exclusively to eat. Knowing what you want is especially crucial during the weekend evening hours. The wait staff may seem tired of the hipster shenanigans of poser whiskeysnobs, so be direct and quick with the orders. Being wishy washy may elicit eyerolls or non-enthusiasm on the service front, so be mindful of potential attitude. Coming with a large group is probably not a great idea.

Really cool place for a post office Perhaps the US post office should Start decorating their interior the same way and they won’t be loosing money every year lol. I highly recommend trying their cocktail drinks.

I really love this bar. The food is great and you can really get an incredible cocktail here. The atmosphere is great. Perfect place to take a date or just grab a drink with a friend. The bartenders are always attentive and friendly and willing to walk a whiskey n00b(like I once was) through their extensive menu and make solid recommendations. The interior is a little tiny and it can get crowded with the minimal seating on popular nights, but it’s an absolute must if you are a whiskey junkie and want a strong well-made drink. Prices are a bit more expensive than some over bars in the area, but you get what you pay for in quality and service. This isn’t a bro-ey bar; this is a bar for those who appreciate alcohol and not just getting wasted. Whenever I am in the area, I always stop in for a drink. I recommend you do the same!

This was and is hipster heaven! Being in the heart of Williamsburg that is to be expected. But it was the weekend of Halloween and my friend was visiting and just had to go to the area to see what the hype(or shall I say unhype) was about. We found this place and it was a bit of a hike from the rooftop bar we were just at, so I was hoping it’d be worth it. And it was! It was dimly lit(and cutely decorated for Halloween), nice vintage style to the décor, and the staff were available. It is a bar-restaurant hybrid, with a tiny kitchen window. The menu is limited with not too many options, perfect for the person who gets overwhelmed by too many options. We selected the grilled cheese(with bacon and without) and the pulled pork sandwich. The sandwiches come alone — no sides but they were delicious. They did tend to be overly greasy and not at all healthy options, but we had no problem eating them. We finished by sharing a pumpkin bread pudding that was to die for with bourbon sauce! I would definitely recommend this for a quick bite to eat and/or drink with friends. It was affordable, quick, and casual — but not too casual!

The chicken liver bacon sandwich is one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had. Go there. Go.

The selection of whiskey is amazing. A date took me here when we were looking to switch up places. The environment was intimate, quiet, yet I not intimidating for a first date(maybe the whiskey helped). We both ordered a whiskey sour, and even though it was about $ 11 per drink, It was the best whiskey sour I’ve ever had. I will happily pay for a drink like that. The staff was accommodating and friendly — even brought us complimentary dessert that they wanted to try out for this upcoming season. It’s a «hidden gem» of Brooklyn, so I recommend this place to any whiskey lover… or drinker really.

I swear they make the best Old Fashioned. One of my favorite bars to attend while I am visiting the South Side. It is My brother-in-law’s favorite bar so we come here a lot. +1 for being a whiskey bar. +1 for being within a block from sister and bro-in-law’s apartment. Nice place to sit down and chat with someone. Good music and snacks also(oysters and pickle plates etc.).

Someone didn’t think SEO through when they named their bar Post Office. But oh well, we’ll just have to invoke a cliché and call it a «hidden gem». That’s how these things work, right? Anyway, Post Office is both a bar and a restaurant, but believe you me, I was here for the whiskey. They have a ton of whiskeys, bourbons and Scotch available. I went with Angel’s Envy Rye. Their prices are pretty standard. Not too high and definitely not too low. They also do cocktails, which are actually pretty inexpensive. I tried the Jersey Fire Drill because I love spicy cocktails. It definitely hit the spot. We didn’t want to eat here because we were just killing time before dinner, but it looked like a lot of the food that was coming out of the tiny kitchen was delicious. Oh well, maybe next time.

This is a primo whiskey bar, but know that they only serve whiskey. The prices are fantastically cheap compared to Manhattan, but unlike most bars, this place has probably a hundred or so varieties. The atmosphere is laid back, comfortable, attention to detail for drinks, and an interesting and subtle theme of post office. Fantastic, will be back again for a whiskey night.

You know you’ve lived in Brooklyn too long when you look at a drink menu and say, «Woah, $ 11 for a cocktail? NOTBAD!» Which is the case here, but like I WILLHAPPILYPAY because the drinks here are faaaantastic. You can get some straight-up fancy-ass bourbon, or some cocktails mixed with artisanal love. I imagine this is a great date spot, as so many couples were canoodling by the window tables. And the musical selection(90s rock) is sure to put you in the mood.

I love cozy places like this, where you can just wander in late afternoon, sit for a couple of hours, try various things from their enormous whiskey collection… and then message your husband, slightly tipsy, with«how about meeting me for pulled pork at Post Office instead of me cooking». Which is totally what happened, and the pork and panna cotta were amazing, and all of the drinks were delicious, and the service was beyond friendly, but mainly what stands out in my mind is that whiskey sour I had in the beginning, which is just what the summer called for.

One of my friends had come here before and said the drinks were really good but had never tried the food before. Since we were looking for a place to eat on a Friday night, we decided to give it a try. The drink menu is quite extensive. The food menu, however, is quite the opposite. It would be an understatement to say that people don’t come here for the food. We asked our waiter what the food specials were. He thought about it for some time before walking back to ask the manager. As I turned around in my seat to check the place out, I noticed a chalk board behind me with«Today’s Specials». When the waiter walked back out, he told us what we already knew from reading the chalk board. Again, food is not what people come here for. With that being said, we decided to order some small bites and grab a drink before venturing elsewhere for food in what turned into an amazing night, but that’s another story. We ordered the deviled eggs and chicken liver sandwich(not my choice). But it turned out to be quite good actually. The old fashioned that I had was decent. One friend got some type of whiskey on the rocks which he liked. But my other friend who ordered the Maiden Voyage complained that it was too bitter and had to ask the waiter to add some sugar to the drink. I would like to give 3 ½ stars, but it loses ½ because of the limited food menu and that the drinks didn’t blow us away.

Not quite sure if it was all the alcohol I’d consumed that night, but their grilled cheese sandwiches are on fucking point. Also, it’s a bit of a tight squeeze. Oh well.

One of my friends was dying for some grilled cheese sandwiches, so we scrambled to find a pub/bar that served it. I’ve heard about this place from a friend who knows all the«trendy» places in Wburg, so the three of us checked it out. Love how the windows resemble actual«post office» ones. Turns out, they’re more about their drinks than food. So we ordered grilled cheese sandwiches with bacon and knocked back some of their drinks while waiting for the food to come out. They’re pretty strong by the way. One drink lasted me till the end of my stay. I have to say, they make some of the best grilled cheese sandwiches known to mankind. And I’m not even a fan of cheese to begin with. I still wasn’t full, so I ended up ordering a dozen of their $ 1 happy hour oysters(I had five minutes left! Score!) to satiate my appetite. I polished them off all within minutes and it filled me up just right. Our waitress swung back around and commented that«that’s just the way she likes to eat her oysters too.» Ha! They were delish, just small. If you really want quality oysters, head on over to Maison Première for their happy hour specials. Warning: This is NOT a good date place. My friends and I were using our outdoor voice to talk to each other. However, it’s a perfect place to chill out and relax with your good friends while jamming out to old school ‘90s music. I’m talking Robyn, BSB(yes, Backstreet Boys) and Eagle Eye Cherry.

Post Office, despite having a name that makes them difficult to look up on the internet, is just about everything I want in a pre-dinner bar. This is fortunate, because they happen to be located within a few blocks of several of my favorite restaurants. They offer quality whiskey cocktails, a nice amount of seating(for such a small establishment), and superb music(I’ve heard golden era hip-hop, the good side of the 80s, and on one particular evening, nothing but Beck; perhaps they play it all a bit too loud, but I am also a bit too old). I’ve yet to sample any of their small plates, but I imagine their competence extends across the board. The only downside of my experiences with Post Office is that on my most recent visit, I could see the entire ass of a guy seated at the bar. Seriously, so much crack was visible that he may have left a skid mark. How he didn’t feel the draft, I’ll never know. I suppose this cannot be blamed on Post Office, but I feel as though somebody must be held responsible. Perhaps you. Yes, now that I think about it, this is your fault. I shall expect your apology forthwith.

Firstly, they want you here. Friendly welcome! Seated where we asked at the window with comfy club chairs! Had our first«pickle backs» as we are from queens not Williamsburg. Shot of bourbon with a Chaser shot of pickle juice. What a great idea. Must bring this idea home. Cool vibe, cool server. Good grilled cheese with bacon and pulled pork. Unpretentious local hang out. Will be back!
