Robert Rosenkranz, DDS

This is a pretty conflicting review for me to write. Dr. Rosenkranz is a really friendly, professional dentist and he certainly knows what he’s doing. The rest of the staff are along the same lines. They’re all a joy to work with.
The problem I encountered with his office, and the reason I won’t be going back, lies in their complete lack of communication when it comes to billing and how it relates to your insurance coverage. Basically I had gone in to see Dr. Rosenkranz, who is in my insurance network, and was billed accordingly. I coughed up my tiny copay and was out the door. All smiles.
A few weeks later I come back in to see their periodontist, at Dr. Rosenkranz’ suggestion, to get a consultation for a deep cleaning. Everything seemed to be great until I went to check out, and was told my consultation would be $ 150…huh? What happened to my insurance? I was also told the deep cleaning would be over $ 1,000 if I chose to come back. Double huh.
It turns out this is because while Dr. Rosenkranz is indeed in my insurance network, their in house periodontist is NOT. Why I wasn’t told this is beyond me, especially when the entire process was presented to be seamless, with no indication that I was leaving the comfy confines of my insurance network. This is of course not cool, at all. Intentional or not I felt swindled out of my money, and now I need to start the process of finding a dentist anew.
Patient beware, is all I can say.

Awesome. Appointments start on time. Dr Rosenkranz is quick and efficient but I never have any doubts that he is thorough. I brought my 3 yo son to see Dr B. Also awesome. He got my son to tolerate a pretty thorough inspection and cleaning. Highly highly recommend.

i absolutely love Dr Rosenkranz and trust him with my teeth. going to the dentist seriously sucks… lets get real here, but dr rosenkranz makes the experience tolerable and is extremely sweet and kind.
since Dr. R is Jewish his practice is open on Sunday, which is great if you can’t get time off work for a weekday appointment.

I have been visiting Dr. Rosenkranz for over 2 years now. Every single person who works here — receptionists, dental hygienists, and of course Dr. R. himself — is friendly, warm and professional. I usually schedule my appointments in the morning and have never had to wait more than a few minutes. They have also accommodated me when I had to cancel an appointment at the last minute — no questions asked and no charge or attitude.
Another reason I love this practice — unlike many dentists in NYC, they do not try to «upsell» you. I have visited dentists that have told me I needed expensive gum treatments not covered by insurance, suggested teeth bleaching and other dental «cosmetic» treatments. (BTW — I have totally healthy, normal looking teeth, thanks to the braces I wore for years as a teenager!) Dr. Rosenkranz has never once mentioned anything of the sort. Fortunately, I have not needed any real dental work since I began visiting him — just checkups for now — but if he ever does suggest a more invasive procedure I will trust that it is necessary, and not being recommended for purely financial motives.
Oh and he takes all sorts of insurance, including mine, which not many dentists accept!

Dr Rosenkranz’s office has been taking care of my teeth for a few years now. It’s evident that everyone here loves their job. Dr Rosenkranz is a funny guy, which will make you not dread those twice yearly visits. I recently had surgery and was more than a couple months late for my check-​up, and he said «you’re here now, and that’s what matters.» No making me feel bad. This office is a keeper.

These guys are awesome. I highly recommend them as they always treat me like a human and do an excellent job.

My husband and I have been going to Dr. Rosenkranz for a couple of years and it is the first time in my life that I have had a dentist that I love. Everyone in his office is knowledgeable, efficient, and they get you in and out with ease! Dr. Rosenkranz is always, warm, funny, and explains in layman’s terms exactly what’s going and what you can expect. We love him!

When I moved to Brooklyn, I decided to try a new dentist as my main guy was too far (Scarsdale) and I dumped the last guy I tried to replace him with (Jersey City, I sound like a girl right now). Looking here on Unilocal and seeing the location was close to Biefkraft, I decided to give Dr. Rosenkranz a shot. Coming as a first time patient was easy between checking in as well as his schedule (plenty of late night hours). Wait times have not been unreasonable before the appointment as well as during. Aside from being knowledgeable, Dr. Rosenkranz is a riot as others have noted. He doesn’t try to embellish any tooth issues while still giving you a realistic picture of your teeth’s health. He’s also one enthusiastic and bubbly motherfucker which is just his personality. The rest of the staff matches him and are all great; I’ve never been in pain during a procedure here, which is more than I can say for visits to other dentist offices. Also I’ve never had a billing issue which I would also consider pain-​free.
My only compliant – and this is by no means restricted to this dentist – is that there is no reminder system for recurring appointments. I mean I’m not expecting a phone call, just an email a few weeks out; it blows my mind that dentists can’t provide this basic service and instead leave it up to you to remind yourself of an appointment 6 months out. I also feel like they could do more to renovate the place to make it look nicer and more representative of the quality of office it is. Pet peeves aside, if you’re looking for a new dentist you should check this guy out.

I have been going to Dr. Rosenkranz’s office for a couple years now. He is so kind and skilled, as is his staff. Today I had to go in for a filling and I was TERRIFIED. I’m a baby like that. Dr. Mermelstein was really kind and explained everything and made me feel as comfortable as possible. My filling looks and feels great. The front desk staff is also fabulous. Five stars all the way!

Updating review to take off one star — the past few appointments I’ve had to wait 20 – 30 minutes before being seen. 10 is acceptable, but 30 minutes? Blech.

What a swell guy! He comes off really old-​school New York — not old-​school in the sense of his practice, which is as clean and shiny as you’d want, but in his air of confident bonhomie that makes you feel he’s just about to ask you home for a pot-​roast. Maybe a little more expensive than some other places for a cleaning but it’s New York — certainly seemed within ballpark, but seemed like a pretty good cleaning; very pleasant hygienist named Annie took care of it. Even the waiting room had kind of a neighbourhood vibe. Is it weird to say I kind of enjoyed it?

Dr Rosenkranz and his staff are very kind efficient and helpful. My husband and I have been very remiss in getting a regular cleanings for me it had been 1 years, for my husband had been three years! It would’ve been easy for them to shame us, but they were very forgiving– this means we’re more likely to go back soon.
I have been to dentists who do the cleaning themselves and find that this can be a blessing or a curse– I don’t mind that the hygienists do most of the cleaning and that Dr Rosenkranz comes in to analyze the x-​rays and answer questions.

I have been going to this practice for a few years and have been very very satisfied. Sivan, the hygienist, is the best I’ve ever experienced. My mouth sparkles for weeks afterward. Dr. Rosenkranz is friendly and great, I have never waited more than 5 or 10 minutes for my appointment. My only criticism (and why I’m not giving 5 stars) is – as others have noted — many of the dentists and endodontists in his practice are out of network. It would have been nice if I could have had my root canal done there for example instead of having to travel into the city to find an endodontist in network.

Was a patient here for 3 years or so but I recently switched to a new dentist. The only reason for doing so is that the dental hygienists who were doing my bi-​annual cleanings were doing subpar jobs. They weren’t thorough and my teeth did not feel clean. Waste of my appointments. My appointments were also starting to feel rushed compared to when I first started going there in ²⁰¹¹⁄₂₀₁₂.

Another awesome dentist visit!!! In and out in less then an hour and Dr. Rosenkranz is a burst of energy, he’s super excited about getting teeth clean and getting a «fresh start» to a clean mouth.

Brought my entire family here based on Unilocal reviews. Dr Rosencrantz seems friendly as so many have noted, but I found his very quick and affable manner to be quite effective in brushing off your questions and concerns. But in general, the dentists I’ve seen in this practice seem to be friendly and capable.
My main issue with this practice is that Dr Rosencrantz farms off most of the dental work to other dentists. Then these dentists often turn out to NOT be in your network. (A few other reviewers have noted this as well.)
In my case, I was told I needed a periodontal consultation that I would have to pay $ 150 out-​of-​pocket, but that the insurance would cover any subsequent treatments if necessary. After the consultation, they schedule me for deep cleaning, scaling, etc. The day before my appointment they come back to me with the insurance estimate and it turns out that I’m responsible for $ 865 for the treatments. As they’d set me up perfect, I almost felt compelled to commit to them, but then I decided to ask my insurance company and found out that the reason is that the subcontracted dentist was not in my network!
I found Dr Rosencrantz’s subcontracting system to be misleading if not deceptive. I’ve since taken my business to an awesome practice in Midtown that’s in my network and had my deep cleanings done. It cost me less than half of what I would have paid otherwise. And my teeth are finally pain-​free and feeling great again.
Moral is if you’re going to with Dr Rosencrantz, make absolutely sure that the dentist you end up with is still in your network. Otherwise you’ll be in for a very unpleasant surprise!

I had an amazing experience at the Dentist! That was something i thought i would never say. I feared and disliked dentists, until I met Dr. Rosenkranz and his great team. Amazingly friendly both Wanda (Dental Hygienist) and Dr. Rosenkranz. Wanda was super nice and took her time with my cleaning and was very gentle with me. I am so happy, I think my Dentist fears are gone.

Great dentist. You can tell he cares about his patients. Gave me a lot of tips. He’s also kinda hilarious and really enthusiastic. The wait time was also extremely minimal. Definitely recommend.

I went to this office partly due to positive Unilocal reviews. Rosencranz is indeed very friendly and approachable. That said, I can’t say how he is as a dentist because he farms out (at least with me) all the real work to other dentists. And that would be fine, but I found out today they are not all on the same insurance networks. I showed up today for some work and was told that the same doc was out of network in Park Slope, but if I took a taxi to his other office in Roslyn, that would be in network. And how much difference in cost? Rosencranz can’t say. Very strange set up.

I have been going to this office for almost 2 years now and I cannot even put into words how impressed I am with the high levels of professionalism and care I receive.

I have worked with both Dr. Robert Rosenkranz and Dr. Adam J. Mermelstein and have been thoroughly impressed by both! They are very comforting and quite funny.
I actually found their office on Unilocal and I will never go to another dentist again!!!

I didn’t actually go to this dentist.
But in doing research for an invisalign consultation, I ran across his Unilocal reviews and website and he sounded great.
His website clearly listed invisalign under services tab, and my insurance emblem was displayed under the accepted insurance tab.
When I called to schedule my appointment, I was told that the doctor does not accept my UFT insurance and that he does not do invisalign. I was referred to a relative of one of the people who works there who does invisalign at a location that is not at all convenient to me. That’s shady (dishonest & sneaky.)
So this was a waste of my precious time & I think that’s informative. Sorry.
