Stopped by leaving dinner for a friends birthday so that she could pick up some wine. The employees were extremely nice and put up with my shenanigans about the scratch offs. Very entertaining convo

Friendly staff, fast, efficient service. Wide selection of wines and actually a decent looking wine and liquor store. Came in here few weeks ago for a bottle of Vino Verde. It was cheap and delicious and went along fantastically with the Hunger Games. Thank you Ruben Liquors for your hospitality! I may be back if in the hood again one day seeking imbibes aplenty.

The owner and others here are always so friendly & helpful. I almost always like their recommendations and am always greeted by a smile. Their prices are very reasonable and the décor feels like a comfortable, woodsy home. I definitely recommend it to anyone looking for wine & liquor that won’t empty your wallet.

The owner & staff here are amazing! Super friendly & warm, not to mention the great selection of wines at an extremely affordable price. The Décor? Nice & woodsy giving it a home-like feel. Not to mention their weekly weekend wine tasting! Love that they remember the names/faces of their regulars, hard to find a great mom & pop store like this around!

The people who work at this store are the rudest people I have ever met. I bought champagne from there on NYE and the lady didn’t even give me a smile or a thank you. AWFUL !

I trekked all over Brooklyn to find this specific wine(Manischewitz Concord Grape), and it ended up being like a really bad sequel to Harold and Kumar goes to white castle. I was so frustrated. Thankfully I stumbled upon this place on the way back home after what I chucked up as a failed attempt, and they had it! They accept credit cards with no minimum purchase and their prices are reasonable. Will return when I need my Manischewitz fix!

After a complete renovation Ruben Liquors now fits into the neighborhood. Previously you had to point through plexiglass at what you wanted and the store just felt as though it belonged in a much worse neighborhood. Now the space is beautiful and they even have occassional wine tastings. The prices, selection, and service is about average but I’m so glad they updated and that I have no issue giving them 4 stars.

No more bulletproof glass! Now there is nothing stopping me and the rest of the people who live in the ‘hood from robbing the proprietors. Well, nothing except the law, our general law-abiding nature, and the fear of the shotgun they may or may not have behind the counter. But the important information here is that Ruben has finally acquiesced to the gentrification, and renovated their former fortress into a cute, welcoming little liquor store with prices that are still better than Sterling on Smith. This is a good thing.

The renovation is great! It’s really a beautiful store now, complete with a gorgeous tin ceiling. I just stopped by the other night on my way home from work. It was worth the wait– the store had been closed for a couple months over the summer. But now it’s back open and better than ever. They are even stocking some new wines that they never had before. Check it out if you haven’t yet!

Take a look at the article in the Carroll Gardens Patch! They are renovating the store. It should be open in mid August!

I agree with other posts that the plexiglass is a bit unnecessary these days. My one star review is based on the wine selection and the fact that they charged my credit card $ 334 for a pint of Jack daniels. After I noticed the charge on my statement, the owner was apologetic and did make sure my card was credited, but still…

I like this place. You walk in and the entire store is encased behind walls of protective plexiglass. A sweet little lady helps you find what you need and then the transaction takes place through a gas station-like exchange window. The extreme security measures for a liquor store in an upscale neighborhood make me smile, but they’re also interesting artifacts from Brooklyn’s grittier past. One star is deducted because I can’t go in and browse labels like I can in «normal» liquor stores, but otherwise Ruben is solid, with a decent selection and fair prices. Recommended.
