I love Sanita (Sonya) and her team. Super sweet ladies who seem to love what they do. Sonya i ssuper patient and takes the time to explain why an alteration may or may not work. She did a great job on my wedding dress, husband’s tux, and bridesmaid dresses. I will always recommend other to her!

It was an absolute pleasure utilizing this business to tailor both my wedding and reception dresses. Their craftsmanship and expertise exceeded my expectations. And the fact that the prices were so reasonable was the bonus. So pleased, my now husband got his suit altered there as well. Thank you for your time and effort to make sure my dress looked great on my wedding day.

Overpriced. Don’t get the job done properly. I took my dress for alteration, for a small job they charged $ 40 and I had to go there twice because first time they didn’t get it done right. Even the final result wasn’t as good, I just didn’t want to deal with the hassle of going back there again.

I was referred to Sonia (who I believe is the owner) by Lotus bridal, and her work is incredible. I gave her several dresses that needed hems and side seams taken in (and we’re talking like 4 inches on one dress, and the dress had a difficult band at the waist), and not only was she done quickly — I needed them in a matter of days — but the work was perfect. Her space is small, but if you aren’t fussy, then I think you’d love her. I found her pricing to be pretty cheap also because I was quoted much higher from places near me and she came highly recommended. Just go in with a smile — it will make a difference!

over charges. didnt make the changes i asked her for. she was a pain to deal with. i brought it to another tailor that was in the city and they were not only cheaper but they made the changes i needed.

Absolutely horrible experience. Im 7 months pregnant with 2 y.o. in my hands steped in just to ask if the lady could do very simple sundress for summer. The lady greeted us with mean face and replyed in a rude way that she doesn’t do that.“and who even sent you to me”. wow! That is a service… Will never come back, though we just moved to this area. and for sure Would NEVER recommend this rude tailor to anyone!

I had to get a blouse and two pants tailored and since this was the first time getting my clothes altered, I decided to trust the reviews and try this place out. I’m glad I did because I am satisfied with the work. They did everything they said they were going to do and gave helpful suggestions. The only thing that bothered me was that they never seem to pick up the store phone which was annoying. However, I’m not going to knock off a star because they did a great job overall. Would definitely come back for future alterations.

I had a job that was beyond regular cleaner/​tailor lady’s skills, so she recommended Sanita. The job: to shorten zippered sleeves on a faux-​leather jacket. Sonya considered the options and decided the zippers needed to be removed. The result looks great (see my pic). It’s like she just hit the delete button but I know there must have been scissors involved. It wasn’t cheap but it was nice getting $ 2 off with my Unilocal check-​in. I would have given 5 stars, but the jacket wasn’t ready on the day it was promised.

I needed a tailor to do quick work on a bridesmaids dress that I ordered a size too big. I don’t often tailor my clothing (I plan on doing it more) so my ideas for whom to turn to were limited. After a quick internet search and stellar Unilocal reviews I decided to go with Sanita. They did my work quickly, cheaply (I feared the alteration would be expensive), got it done by my deadline with no fanfare at all, and called me «sweetie» in those thick, beautiful Russian accents. They asked who referred me and and all I could say was, «your incredible reviews on Unilocal!» If I ever need anything altered again, I will come here. It’s worth the 40 minute trek in the B44 or the Q!

We’ve been using Sonia since she was located at Daisy cleaners on Neck road… but that was many years ago. Daisy sold and Sonya ended up over at a tuxedo shop where there is now a dunkin donuts… that was short lived, but thankfully, her skill was so in demand, that she was able to branch out and open her own shop. Now, any and all tailoring, there’s no question where we’re going. From simple hems to full on down coat zipper replacement, she can do it all. Trust me, there is no job too big or too small, Sonya and her crew can handle it all.

I love this place — very patient and great seamstress :-). She tailored all of my really expensive dresses that I would not trust to anyone.

Sonya is a miracle worker. I have been come to her for about five years now, I bring her everything from denim to evening gowns.
As first, when you walk in to this place, you get a little nervous– Everything is completely squished, there’s barely any room to breathe. The changing room is like the size of a shower stall, but it works.
I always bring soya my designer jeans to shorten because she does a fabulous job in under a week, just amazing. She of course matches the thread color, but not only that, she matches the sticking style that was there originally.
Shes literally one of the most honest professionals I’ve ever seen. Countless times shes told me when things didn’t need to be altered, or weren’t possible to be altered. Unlike others would be like okay give it to me, ill see what i can do, and $ 20 later, they did nothing and don’t give you a refund.
One time I wanted boot cut jeans to be made into a straight leg. And she told me right away that she could do it but it would ruin the «effect» of the jean, being that the side hems were darker than the entire light wash jean and she would not be able to preserve the «sleek leg» that detailing created. This was something I had never even noticed or realized, she saw it right away!
She is an amazing tailor, and a truly sincere and honest lady. Such a sweetie.

I have to leave a review of this very talented seamstress. I came here in Nov ’12 for a consultation on my wedding dress alterations. Sanita, or Sonya like others call her, told me her ideas and said come back in Jan ’13. I was nervous because my dress has so much beading and was 6 sizes too big. Did I forget to mention it was a sample dress with a couple of tears in the different layers of the dress. All this work needed and my wedding is in March and this lady says come back Jan. I did come back Jan and she started the work. She did remember me even though her little shop had a million pieces of clothing hung up and hundreds more customers coming in to drop off items. I went in for 2 fittings and everything was done. The fit perfect, the length correct and all my tears gone. Her demeanor is so calm and her suggestions are on point. My wedding dress looks like I bought it just for my body. Just a reminder there is complicated beading and 9 layers on this dress. Price was unbelievable…$ 175. The work was done in 5 weeks. Don’t walk, run to this seamstress.

Its very difficult to find a tailor these days that is not at the cleaners. I saw the other reviews and figured I would give this one a try. I gave in 5 pairs of pants. All hems, plus some letting out at the waist. I think they did a great job. The hems are all clean and professional and at the right length. They also had it ready on time.
I would use them again.

This little shop could easily be passed up while you’re walking on Avenue U… unless I happen to come up to you and rip that seam out of your pants. Need a quick fix now right?! Who cares if you like your now torn jeans! Get them looking like you’re pretty sauve in this tailor shop.
Come inside to Sanita! Nothing truly expresses the effective use of space more than this place! Everywhere is jam packed with clothes and sewing equipment. Everyone in here is Russian, but are welcoming and sweet.
Got several of my pants fixed up nicely myself and a dress taken in. Give these ladies 2 days max, and you’ll be walking down that Avenue in style!
Just be on the look out for that crazy freak ripping people’s clothes… how strange!

The shop is a very small space off ave U and is filled with dresses so I was pretty sure they could tackle altering the three pairs of pants that I’ve brought in. I was quickly measured to have two pairs shortened and one pair lengthened. The work was done within the time promised and everything fit great. Will definitely use them again.

Excellent! Found Sonia through Unilocal,and i am so glad I did! My wedding dress came without a bustle and needed to be taken in. Sonia got it done, wonderfully, altered another dress I had AND got me a garment bag! Sooo affordable and wonderful work! My wedding is next week and I can’t wait to wear my dress! Thank you, Sonia!

Hands down the best tailoring I’ve ever had. I personally think that Sanita undercharges for the quality of her tailoring. I’ve put many of my family and friends on to her and they LOVE her work as much as I do. I travel to her all the way from New Jersey… HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

My mom and I stumbled over this place when we walked into the tuxedo tailor around the corner to ask about places that do dress alterations. Normally I’d just walk by it — it’s this small, side street shop off Bedford and Avenue U that doesn’t seem like much. But hell, I needed my bridesmaids dress altered, so we decided to try them out.
They didn’t disappoint. :)
I think the place only employs 2 or 3 people, but they know their stuff. I was pleased with the way my dress was cared for and marked for alteration (I sew myself, so I can be pretty anal about that stuff), and they’re very understanding about time constraints for weddings and events and stuff. My dress was ready in a week, and it looked and fit great.
I’m definitely going back here if I need any future alterations.
