Seedlings Academic Playschool

I have two children at Seedlings and we have been thrilled with the school in the last two years. Our daughter started as a 3 year old and is now in their Pre-​K program. Our son is in the 3’s program and both have really learned a ton in their time there. The class sizes are small and I don’t think you can beat the teacher– child ratio. it was far better here than anywhere else we checked out in the neighborhood. The administrators, Alice, and Tracy, are warm, flexible and go above and beyond to get to know your child and family. Both my husband and i travel for work, and they make a point of sending extra pictures and e-​mails about how the kids are doing when we are out of town. I love that the class takes field trips and explores so many parts of the neighborhood by foot with the kids. Inside the classroom they are always involved in something new and different from week to week and it’s great to see my kids come home talking about what they worked on that day.
We couldn’t be happier with the program and feel lucky our kids got to be part of it.

Both of our children attend seedlings and our eldest child, now in Pre K at seedlings started with the school when it had only been open for one month, so we’ve seen the school go from a tiny neighborhood play school of kids to a thriving, larger more traditional school set up. The focus on child led learning is an extremely positive thing for both of our kids. The Pre K is just excellent and the teachers are amazing, I’m delighted to say. Our little boy has learned lots and his confidence is booming which is great to see. Our second born is in the 3s program and loves it equally, the teachers are warm and caring, the citric column is well thought out and clever, and on the day that my child doesn’t attend, she is really mad and demands to go. We couldn’t be happier, it’s a very small but fabulous space and the garden out back gives it a truly residential feel, which puts the kids at ease instantly. There are regular chess, music and visiting authors programs as well as trips to the library and field trips to the market and park. We love it!

Our older son did his 3’s at Seedlings last year and our younger son is doing his 2’s program there now. Like the other reviewers, I have only positive things to say about the school. Our 4 year old loved school, loved his teachers, and constantly talked about what he did at school each day. On days when he didn’t have school, he would ask if he could go! The administrators, Alice and Tracy, are incredibly warm and caring and seem to give each parent and child a ton of individual attention. They are immediately responsive to all emails and concerns. They have also done an amazing job hiring teachers and other staff. Our 2 year old just started preschool and is going through the «gentle separation» process, which was really tough at first. The teachers and administrators have been amazing throughout the process. They have been in contact with us almost every day, sending pictures and notes via email and text to let us know how our little guy is doing. They have also given him all the love and attention he needed to adjust so that he recently started marching right into school with no tears. Seedlings is a great option for families looking for small classes and an intimate, nurturing environment. As other reviewers have mentioned, the «curriculum» itself is also very impressive, with movement, art and music incorporated into the daily schedule. Every time I drop off or pick up my son at Seedlings, I know he’s in the right place.

Our oldest (almost 4) son will be going into his second year at Seedlings this fall and his little brother (2.5) will be starting his first year there too. My wife and I researched MANY schools in the area and surrounding and made the best decision by enrolling at Seedlings last year. Our oldest is somewhat shy and slow to transition. We believe very strongly that being at Seedlings for his first school experience made the difference between having a kid who would likely have refused to go to school and having a kid who tells us he loves his school. I couldn’t possibly describe all the teacher and administrative support and collaboration with us that created this result – but I can say it is above and beyond what we could have asked for and I just don’t know any other school that gives this much thought and caring to each kid. This is a warm, nurturing environment with a fabulous curriculum (arts, live music!, yoga/​dance, and all variations on learning through play), small classes, a great physical space (indoor/​outdoor) and staff that adores kids. The teachers and staff are accessible and aware of every kid and what is going on with them day to day. We feel incredibly lucky to have both our guys there and that a school like Seedlings even exists – it is for sure not your typical preschool.

We do not have enough positive words to be said about this fantastic place. This summer we were welcomed by Tracy and Alice in such a warm way– as we were brand new to the country, the city and everything this meant the world to us and our 4 year old son.
Every child is special to them and their fantastic crew of teachers– and you can feel that as a parent and it leads you to leave your child there without any worry!
Due to circumstances outside our control our son unfortunately wasn’t able to take the full school year there– but we would not hesitate to warmly recommend the school to others. This must truly be the best kept secret in town!

Seedlings is wonderful. Our daughter has been enrolled since she was 20 months, for the summer program as well as the regular school year, and she truly loves it. I worried initially that she would have trouble with separation, but it didn’t take long for her to stop being sad to see me leave, and start being sad to see me return to pick her up! The teachers and the two women who run the school are all warm, friendly, and accessible. They’re also flexible, which I appreciate – there’s an extended day option, for example, which seems unique to Seedlings. Our daughter has really thrived here, and we’re grateful to have found such a perfect place for her to experience school for the first time.
