History

Established in 2001.

Shambhala is an intimate, community– and family-oriented yoga & dance center serving the Prospect and Crown Heights communities.

Reflecting the depth and diversity of our neighborhood, we welcome people of all backgrounds to come together and enjoy the deep benefits of aligning the body, the mind and the breath – whether it’s through yoga, belly dancing, salsa, or African dance. We recognize this path to the spirit is different for everyone. Our yoga and dance teachers come from a variety of backgrounds, passionate about their practice and bringing a unique perspective and approach that they share so generously.

Our guiding mission is to provide a small oasis of peace and comfort where we join with others from our community to breathe deeply, restore our spirits, and regain the inner clarity and balance to help navigate through and celebrate all facets of this sometimes stormy, sometimes exhilarating — but always interesting — journey of life!

Meet the Business Owner

Sarah S.

Business Owner

A teacher, yogi and longtime Brooklyn resident, Sarah is devoted to creating a haven for community with a supportive, friendly small-town vibe.

Founded in 2001 by Cathy Calderon, Shambhala has long been a warm, welcoming space for practice and community gatherings. When passed the reins by her mentor in 2010, Sarah relocated the business a few doors down, creating a larger studio space with rooms for local wellness practitioners, and a boutique with items crafted by local and independent businesses.

The studio offers a diverse array of classes, workshops and community gatherings for all ages and backgrounds.
