So sad to hear that this place closed down. I was wondering what happened to this place, because it never was open. I really miss their steamed rice roll with curry fish balls, and their mini egg cakes. They tasted just like the ones in Hong Kong. They were the best I have ever eaten in NYC. It was so delicious. I hope maybe in the future, they would reopen or open in a new place. I would surely be there if that does happen.

Went searching for it last week, a local store owner told me that it’s closed down! Can anyone confirm this? I hope I was misinformed. :(

Ah the rice roll with fish balls is my go to snack when I am at Snack Asia, and boy is it good. The rice rolls are a great velvety texture that almost melt in your mouth, the fish balls add a delicious source of protein but what really brings the dish to together is the sauces on top. It is at least three different types of sauce they put on top to create a snack that is very complex with a plethora of flavor. If you are on the area I suggest you get a the rice roll wash it down with a bubble tea from ten ren and then find the lady who sells Douhua and buy as much as you can carry because you will regret it if you dont.

Really BEST mini-egg cakes ever! The batter the folks here use for the mini-egg cakes and HK style waffle taste just like those you get in HK. Its pretty expensive($ 2.50 for 1 cake) compared to the junk you get off the street in Chinatown(15 pieces for $ 1), but you get what you pay for! I also LOVE their HK style waffle, the imitation shark fin soup and their fried fish ball. I don’t love their fried tofu bc its just not that tasty cold. Also, their HK style tea is pretty weak and their HK style red bean drink is not thick enough and the red beans are too hard like if they didn’t boil it enough to make it soft and tender. This place is pretty expensive for serving HK small eats, but pretty authentic food! I’m definitely going to go back and try out their other stuff!

Thanks to fellow Unilocalers, I can get some good rice rolls with peanut and soy sauce. The address was so off-putting because it’s not on 8ave but on 59th Street instead. That’s besides the point, if you see the orange awning — you’re there! The storefront was bigger than what I expected. The menu is overhead so you have to look up and it’s in Chinese, if you want the English version you would have to walk further into the shop. Service is quick and everything was delicious. The rice rolls were in a big styrofoam container swimming in soy, peanut and sesame sauce. Add some spicy fishballs and it’s such a perfect combo. The soy sauce noodles were good also. The egg puff was what amazed me. The way it was made looked so authentic. You can’t rush these kind of food, you need to appreciate them and trust the cook whenever he/she think is the right time to hand you the puff. After the puff is cooked, it is cooled on a rack to give it that U-shape so it fits into the paper bag. Not overly sweetened, the puff was crispy and crunchy on the outside while the inside was soft and fluffy. I was in total bliss. No longer do I have to get the $ 1 egg cakes in the city, I can just get it here… the entire thing to myself.

Snack Asia’s «Gai Don Jai»(egg cakes) are the closest thing I’ve had in New York to the ones in Hong Kong! Their cast iron pan is shaped like the ones they use in HK, which ensures each puff comes out golden on the outside with barely cooked eggy batter on the inside. The super crispy pieces that hold each puff together are my favorite part! The other snacks at this stand are just okay. The Churng Fun(Rolled Rice Noodles) and Yoo Don(Fish Balls) were both very greasy. Service was quick although I’m unsure if they speak English. Regardless, the only words you need to know how to say are«Gai Don Jai!»

Hands down! Snack Asia has the best cheurng fun with curry fish balls in Brooklyn, maybe all of NYC. It’s a little bit on the pricier side but the food there is worth every penny! Don’t forget to try their mock shark fin soup and egg size pancakes too.

First of all, MAJOR kudos to RJ M. below who spelled out the location of this tiny place. I thought it was directly on 8th Ave. but you actually have to walk west from the 8th Ave./59th St. corner for a few storefronts to see it on 59th St. I was in love with my rice rolls and spicy fish balls(which they combined in one container). A few pointers to the other clueless non-Chinese adventurers out there: there is a handwritten-but-legible English menu so be not afraid! There are no utensils — you instead spear your food with thin long wooden toothpicks, which is super fun. The people are REALLY friendly, and the cashier spoke English, so I bet she’d be helpful if you’re torn over what to order. The Hong Kong milk tea is excellent, and really reminds me of Indian chai — get it! There are two little stools and a couple of standing tables, so you won’t be banished from the place to eat your food. I love Brooklyn’s Chinatown, and I loved this place — I’ll be sure to stop in again.

Went back to Snack Asia to try their steamed rice roll with curry fishballs($ 3.75), and it was superb! Tasted just like Hong Kong at its best! When I was ordering here, I realized that the menu is written in Chinese only. I guess if you dare to be brave, you should come here and point at the foods that you want to order haha :) Happy Happy Joy Joy! I am happy to find a new hidden treasure in Brooklyn! :) P.S — My sister went here a few days ago and tried their HK milk tea(lai cha) drink and she said it was DELISH! I haven’t tried it yet, but will on my next visit. I can’t wait!

yummy in my tummy! This little joint somehow brings you back to hong kong for a moment. When you need a quick meal and you’re under a budget, this is the place to come to! When I need a quick meal fix with my boyfriend, I usually come here for their egg sandwich, egg puff cakes, and rice noodles rolls with spicy fish balls. The egg sandwich is usually pretty good since its fresh, but the last time I had it, it was a little too oily for my liking, and I was sort of turned off by it. Ever since then I haven’t ordered it. Maybe it was only that one time because a different lady(new hired?) pan-fried my egg, but still, I can’t bring myself ordering it again remembering that one time it was too oily. Perhaps I’ll get it another day when that lady isn’t there. The other staff usually makes it just right. The egg puff cake is pretty good. Crispy and soft. I like how the egg puff cakes are altogether unless the ones in chinatown where it’s already divided into piece by piece. I like how its altogether because in between the cakes is a really thin layer of cake-batter which is extra crispy. The rice noodle rolls are the bomber here! It’s not such a deal-grabber here because compare to the stands at chinatown, the portion is not as big, but hey I don’t mind it’s enough for me and the quality of the rice noodles is just perfect! It’s soft, and you can tell its fresh! They did a good mix of flour and water. The sauce, just YUM! Top it with spicy fish balls, oh god, SOGOOD. nom nom nom – I had their hong kong style waffles which I’m not too crazy about because it’s a little too sweet for my tasting. And gosh, who knows how many calories are packed in that little snack which by the way you end up finishing it without even noticing it with all that butter, peanut butter, and condensed milk. BUT, my boyfriend loves it. He’s okay because no matter what he eats at whatever time, he won’t pack on any weight. BTW, these little guys take a pretty long time compare to the other snacks. I waited once for 10 minutes because the person that was making it kept mistakenly burning it. I was getting pretty upset and impatient, but finally they made it right on the third try. Again, I never saw him before, so maybe he was new at it? For those of you who don’t live at Brooklyn, no fret! They just recently opened one in Flushing on Roosevelt Ave inside the same store as Chat Time tea shop which I have yet to try! I’m pretty sure it’s about the same since its the same owners…

Rice noodles(churng fun) with spicy fish balls(yue don) for $ 3.50. Get outa here! You can get almost the same thing at Chinatown for only $ 1.50 at most street carts. This came in a medium sized styrofoam container. I forgot to count how many fish balls were in it(maybe 6 – 8?). It might be even more worth it to order rice noodles and fish balls separately(for same total price)! The rice noodles were chewy and not as soft as I would like. The spicy fish balls were the star of the dish. It had hints of curry tastes. For a spicy eater girl like me, it wasn’t even spicy at all. Next time, I’ll just order the fish balls alone. I also waited about 5 – 10 minutes to try their Hong Kong style waffle($ 2.50) with mix toppings(all I tasted were condensed milk and peanut butter). It look cute and all. It was a cold day so when I brought the food back to my car that was across the street, the waffle was already getting soggy! Boo.

I love this place! The food they sell are really nothing special… common HK street snacks? But where can you find those in NYC for such prices? I love the egg puffs here! They are really crispy on the outside, yet really soft on the inside; and they’re only $ 2! Recently, I’ve been in LOVE with their spicy fish balls. Since I’m not usually a spice-eater, I’m not particularly sure what spices they used but they’re DELISH! You can get 6 of them for $ 1.50. What a deal, huh? Well, of course, you can get cheaper ones outside, on the stands, but trust me, after you have these, you would never want to get them on the streets. Other than the fact that they’re more yummy, they’re also cleaner… MUCH cleaner! I’ve also tried their rice rolls(w/or w/o fish balls), fried chicken wings, waffles, and their noodles served with a choice of three ingredients. LOVEDTHEMALL. Well, I’m not particularly fond with the waffle, since it is quite messy! I mean, it is yummy, but eh, wouldn’t be the best food to eat when you’re on-the-go.

Egg waffle n Spicy Fish Ball(7) on a stick! The Fish Ball is okay, just soaked in a curry like sauce. The Waffle is good, not too sweet or bland. $ 3.50 You end up eating the enitre thing without even noticing you were reaching into the bag it’s in. This place is located on the corner of 8th Ave. and 59th Street(where the stores look more modern and new) it’s not directly on 8th Ave(b/t 58th and 59th). Oh and everything is in Chinese, but that’s okay they have an English speaking person. Next time I will try the rice roll.

Snack Asia is one of those hidden gems and after careful deliberation debating whether or not I should even be sharing a review about this little place with amazing Hong Kong snack food, I decided to share, so here it goes, revealing all the details. I’ll tell you what’s good here. 1. Rice roll and spicy fish balls — I grew up eating this stuff and their rice roll are the best I’ve had, quality rice roll, each bite you can sense it was perfectly steamed, covered with sauce, and adding the spicy fish balls really enhances the taste. Non-spicy version is available too. 2. Their waffle — Just the right size, perfectly cut in half for you, the right crisp, and smothered with butter, condensed milk, and peanut butter. 3. The egg puff — Fun to eat, fun to tear apart. It’s crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. 4. Mock shark fin soup — One of my all time favorite soups. Try it and you’ll see why. It’s that good. 5. Hong Kong milk tea — This is like my morning coffee, which goes well with the food.

My parents are from hong kong so I grew up knowing and loving the snacks offered here. And they do it very well. Things like the freshly pressed waffles. Very light and airy and made rich and sweet by the generous smothering of butter and peanut butter. The egg cakes are made to order, also very fluffy. Much better than the street cart variety you find in Chinatown. But i really come here for the rice roll. This is a beloved HK street snack. Drenched with a combination of hoisin sauce and thinned out peanut butter. Throw a few spicy curry fish balls in it and what you get for under $ 4 is heaven. They also do a variety of simple noodles which you can pick and add different meats to create the noodle soup you want. Place is very small, with 5 or so counter seating. Most people come to get orders to take out. Authentic HK street snacks are not easy to find in NYC and this one happens to be a short drive from my neck of the hood. So I’m glad to have discovered it!

Love their rice roll with Hong Kong style sauce over it. Sauce is very fatty but it is so good that is if you like peanut butter and Chinese hoi sin sauce. I also like their egg puff which I can’t find at anywhere in NYC. It is a little crunchy compare to the ones you get from Chinatown food stand. Will come back shortly whenever I can get my fiancé to come to Bklyn.

Hong Kong Style Waffle I have needed this item real bad lately. Freshly made waffle with peanut butter, nutella, butter and sprinkled lightly with sugar. I love how they put it in a paper bag to absorb this conglomeration. Damn this is some good stuff. I especially like how the butter runs down my chin. Shit I need a waffle! Oh, the price of the waffle went up 50 cents.

Services there are wonderful, especially when you go there for breakfast and smiles are welcoming you =) ! I like the egg puffs there, you can get 30 for only $ 2! It’s the real Hong Kong style and of course it’s much cleaner than you getting them from the street carts.
