Excellent gym! I love working out here. Nice staff, super clean, great classes and all of the equipment you can ask for.

Super friendly staff, complete equipment, never crowded, great location. What I liked most is that the classes are included in the gym membership so it’s definitely a bang for my buck.
For those looking to take their fitness to the next level (or even if you just want to start working out the right way) go look for Allen Boseman of ABS Fitness NYC. I trained with him for 2 months and in such a short time he was able to condition me into lifting heavy weights as well as help me improve my overall strength game. He’s super friendly, very encouraging, and he takes time to explain the why’s and how’s of your work out so you can achieve your most optimum self. I know I did. Hands down an awesome coach!

A really nice gym. I only did the trial day because I have a membership somewhere else, but it’s really clean and pretty, great showers and locker rooms, classes included… all in all it’s a great value for an NYC gym in an expensive area, but it still gives the luxury gym experience

If this gym had Equinox written on the front of the building it would be 150 per month. In other words this is a high quality gym for relatively low cost. I’ve never seen it crowded. Has all the nice equipment. Three floors of work out space plus a large room for classes. The classes look fun and don’t seem to be crowded. Plus they’re included in the membership. Locker rooms are legit. Large enough changing area and includes a sauna steam room and nice showers. They keep the whole place clean. Overall top notch gym for a good price. Five stars.

I’m giving Soma 5 stars for a few reasons. I’ve been a member for a few years now and have been consistently happy about how clean and well maintained this place is. If you are not a gym rat and just want a quality place to get fit, this is it. They offer a great selection of free fitness and yoga classes too, and there are personal trainers there who you can hire to help you get in shape safely and effectively. Which brings me to my next point:
I was fortunate enough to meet personal trainer Derian Calnick at Soma. I was doing an exercise in a way that would probably have put me in traction, when Derian came over and offered me some friendly advice. I immediately got the feeling that this guy knew what he was doing. I would never have thought I was the type to have a «personal trainer,» but I realized I needed a pro to teach me how to do it right. I set up an appointment with Derian soon thereafter. I cannot speak highly enough of Derian. On top of his talents as a trainer, he’s got a great attitude and is so full of encouragement, you’ll feel like you can conquer the world just getting a sip of water. Seriously, the guy knows his stuff, and I saw results quickly.
Having a professional there to give you guidance and make instant adjustments to your technique will make a huge difference. I know this now. If you’ve ever felt like you’ve been wasting time at the gym, sign up with Derian, and he’ll get you together. And you’ll feel great!

I have been a member of Soma for over 2 years, and have enjoyed my time. However, before I get into the gym itself, let me expose about my wonderful trainer, Derian! D is the man and has helped me make a positive lifestyle change. While our partnership started with him whipping me in shape for my wedding, he’s now my full-​time health coach and good friend. What impresses me the most about D is his energy, motivation, and good nature. He wants to enable his clients to live healthfully and he goes to no end to do it; he often builds out a routine and even video tapes you doing it, so you can feel comfortable on your own. Thanks to D, I now go to the gym 3 days a week, which is a far cry from the once per week or bi-​weekly sessions that I used to do.
Soma as a gym works very well for me. It’s clean, spacious, offers classes, and the clientele is nice (I never feel self-​conscious about working out). Sure, the sauna/​steam room can go on the fritz, but the management is nice and they listen when you bring up issues. All in all, I’m a fan and will continue to be a member.

Great gym — very clean, in a super convenient location, and also very affordable. I’d recommend checking out their daily classes too. Awesome addition to the membership package. The staff is great as well. I would highly recommend this gym!

I love Soma. Welcoming environment and all the employees, trainers and instructors are super nice.
Always clean and they provide everything you need if you need to shower there (including towels, razors, soap, lotion).
I train with Allen and he’s great. Good classes too!

Soma is a small but efficient gym. It has everything you need and is never too crowded.
As a member, you get access to great classes and also if you choose to pay for it, great personal trainers.
If you’re looking to really step up your fitness, trainers are the way to go! They have many to choose from to accommodate your fitness goals.
Jowanda Durham has been a great trainer. Her sessions are tough but fun and extremely motivating.

Been going to Soma for several years. Very clean and friendly staff.
The last year I signed up to have a trainer: DERIAN CALNICK.
This has been a life-​changer. Derian is an incredible trainer. He has a 4 year degree, is deeply knowledgable, passionate, intelligent and motivating. With his help I have had tremendous changes in my strength, fitness and appearance.
Training is Derian’s one and only passion in life. He’s not «also» anything else. He lives, thinks, breathes, reads physical fitness. He cares about training and his clients more than anything else in his life.
He’s friendly, funny, always on time and always ready to go the extra mile for me. He texts me workout routines for when I travel, sends me articles, and also helps with my diet.
You would be lucky to have him as a trainer. I hope to keep working with him for years to come.

I love this place. It’s clean. It’s inviting. Staff is friendly. Tons of classes, hip location, steam room AND sauna, and reasonable price. It’s approx $ 90 a month depending on the contract or no contract option. I do no contract (has a 60 day cancellation policy) and it’s $ 93 all taxes and fees. They offer yoga, boxing, spin, and bootcamp classes every day. Towel service, classes, and all gym amenities included in your membership. Best gym I’ve ever had, I’m motivated to go, and my body is looking better all the time.

Update: these thieving jokers just tried to file a falsified credit claim for some fake amount of money totally pulled out of thin air. Filing against them in small claims tomorrow along with a complaint to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

This gym is terrible. Broken sauna and steam room that never worked, locker rooms smelled bad and they refused to put a hold on my contract or cancel it even after I moved out of the city. Would not recommend this gym to anyone simply for their terrible customer service. Add to that the hardly working «amenities» and I would strongly advise against setting foot in here.

Nice gym. Clean and friendly. Ive been a trainer for 12 years and have been to allot of gyms both good and bad. Soma is certainly on the top rung. Recommended to anyone over in Williamsburg to check them out.

Soma is an amazing gym. Sauna, steam room and a super nice staff. It is rarely crowded and three floors with tons of equipment. There are great classes that come free with membership.
The only negative is the increasing amount of men wearing yoga pants sans shorts blasting their packages on the elliptical machines. There needs to be some sort of dress code.

Really wish this place would step it up in terms of maintenance… broken sauna/​steam room, bathroom isn’t that clean and the floor is left wet and slippery, broken TVs and buttons consistently on 5+ machines, website not maintained with accurate class schedule, broken water fountain… and so on. With memberships at $ 70+ a month I would think they could do better than this.
With that said its so convenient which is the main draw for me and the space is nice and open with big windows. Also the classes are good but very limited and in general there aren’t many offerings. Some classes are only available once per week… and in the weekday afternoons while a light schedule would be expected literally NO classes are offered from Noon-​6pm. I hope they will improve some of these issues. It could be a great gym.

I almost never write reviews but people need to know how amazing the instructor Francesco is. He teaches TRX, total body, sculpture and cardio step: D
He is super sociable and makes you feel at home right away. He has charisma and high energy. I love that he gives correction to everybody to make sure you don’t get hurt and you get the best results.
All the people that attend his class love him and he is the reason why I go to Soma. His classes are super fun and I like the music he plays. I take his class 3 times a week.
The gym is beautiful, bright, super clean and with the view of the bridge!
The only disappointing thing is that the majority of the people at the front desk (not everybody) don’t greet you when you come in or when you leave :(If they were a little bit more sociable and talkative people would love coming to the gym even more! That’s the only not positive thing that me and other members think. Over all great experience!!!

So, the mats used for classes are a bit… ragged. The classes, are AMAZE.
Oh wait I live in hipsterville and don’t want people to go… Please don’t go, horrible instructors… okay fine. No they rock. Mimi basically makes pilates look like child’s play and I on the other hand am dying and my abs are on fire. The burn is real people.
The first two weeks, I was sore the entire time. Granted I did end up losing 7 pounds in 3 weeks, so I definitely am eating WAY more now.
There has only been one time where the gym was really crowded and I couldn’t use the free weights area. I love that this is 5 blocks from my apartment. It is a bit pricey. I wish that they had more classes in the evenings so I felt like I had more options. Locker rooms are spotless.
Now I actually go to the gym a few times a week. This is the year I get back in shape!

Great service clean gym and the sauna is awesome. I’ve lost 3 pounds in 6 months! But I feel great!
Highly recommended to anyone in willy!
