Sophisticated Loc Salon

I really don’t like a lot of people in my hair. And moreover, I don’t like going a whole lot of places to get my hair done. Like a lot of poeple, I like ONE person, who really knows and understands MY hair to care for it if I can’t. I met Fajr when she worked at Tendrils downtown and at that point she cut my hair so that I could have an easier go when my daughter was born. That was in 2011. I hadn’t gone to another salon for a hair cut since. But I sought her out when I was ready to cut again at the end of 2013 — and she did NOT disappoint.
Firstly, the salon is so cozy and wonderful, if I didn’t have to run that day, I could have stayed there all day. The staff is so pleasant and accommodating, I loved the conversation and the most important thing? She respected what I asked of her for my hair and did exactly what I requested with professionalism and courtesy. This isn’t only for locs. I don’t have locs /​dreads. I wear my hair naturally and out of twists or plaits but want to go somewhere that won’t judge me if I come in and want a blow out and she was clear to let me know if I wanted to do that — it was my hair and she would do the very best to care for it and make sure that it would come out healthy either way.
Now that this salon and Fajr are closer to where I live than before, I’ll be visiting regularly for my trim and color touch up… but I’m rocking my pixie natural and LOVING it (so is everyone else!)

I’ve been going to Sophisticated Locs for the past two years. I love it there! Fajr and Shaquora are the best. I went because I decided to go from processed hair to natural hair. They helped me the whole way. I wouldn’t trust my hair care to anyone else. All of the hair care products they use are all natural and made by Shaquora. I now take my daughter and we go every two weeks, faithfully. I love the atmosphere, the service, and I get good bang for my buck. It feels like family when I go. I appreciate the fact that I can feel at home, get good hair care and service and contribute to a black owned business. I would highly recommend Sophisticated Locs to any and everyone!

This lady is a rip off. I went to her to get some corn rows done (with extensions). I wanted them done with kinky hair. She charged me $ 80 for the hair ($ 40/​bundle) and then $ 200 to do the corn rows. Who charges $ 200 to do some cornrows? Also, she did a horrible, horrible job with the cornrows. After I saw it, I was like, i could have done this myself. She also seemed surprise by how unimpressive her work looked. I don’t like to argue and quarrel with hairdressers after they do my hair so I just let it go. I will never go back to her and I was sure to not recommend any of my friends. She’s a nice person and all but I definitely feel that I got the raw end of the deal. As you can see from the price quoted above, she is very expensive. Please be sure to go somewhere else.

I am very happy to recommend this business to anyone who appreciates professional and tender care. I went for the Big Chop and met with Fajr for a consultation. The atmosphere is pleasant and inviting. Fajr is very knowledgeable and shared all that I needed to know as I transitioned to completely natural hair. I was made to feel relaxed and well taken care of. Her pricing was very reasonable. I greatly appreciated her honesty about the condition of my hair and the treatment it requires to become very healthy. I will be back to continue my natural hair journey.

I loved every single thing about my visit to Sophisticated Loc’s. Shaquora has extensive skills and experience working with hair and a wonderful, warm personality. She is also highly professional. The atmosphere in her salon is beautiful and comfortable, and showcases the gorgeous dolls (soft sculptures) she crochets.
Before I visited her in August 2012, I was so worried that my dreadlocks were damaged beyond repair. I’d had trouble finding someone who could naturally tighten mature whitelady dreads. Not only did Shaquora and her talented daughter trim, tidy, manicure and re-​lock my dreads to perfection, but they did it quickly for a fantastic price. And from what felt like the comfort of my own home — tho looked more glamourous!
I’m thrilled I found Shaquora, and will without a doubt be returning to her when my dreads need maintenance. I can’t recommend her highly enough! Thank you Shaquora, see you next year :-)
