Everyone knows McDowell’s from«Coming to America» right? Well, this is the Subway version of that. I’m not quite sure how this place came about, but here’s what I do know: –The Subway that was in this location moved down the street to by the corner of Bedford and Manhattan. –This location became«Subs Ur Way»(with the«Ur» being very small so that it reads«Subs Way») … Yes, I know, a cease-and-desist waiting to happen. In any case, I found this all very humorous so I decided to give this place a shot. It still very much looks like a Subway and they even have the Subway bread baking machine. You’ll find almost every sub you could find at Subway on the menu but they really focus on the BLT. There are several variations of this. I chose one of these BLTs and was given the bread choice of Italian or wheat. I chose Italian. Right away I noticed the bread looked a little pale but didn’t think much of it. I was then asked if I’d like it toasted. I said I would and here’s where the best part comes in… In lieu of one of those high-powered convection toasters that Subway has, they are using a standard home kitchen toaster oven. That’s not even in the worst thing in world, but apparently the staff is under the impression that this is as powerful as the industrial Subway version and only put my sub in there for 20 seconds when it should have probably been in there for over two minutes! I took the sub home and immediately realized the bread was underbaked, and the quick rendezvous with the toaster oven hadn’t helped. I ended up toasting it in my own toaster oven for a good two minutes. Then, after this effort, the sub wasn’t all that bad. I’ll give this place another shot in a couple months to check for improvements. Right now though I have to recommend against it.
