I started off with giving this place 3 stars because I thought the food was decent, no better or worse then some of the others around. It looks clean so that’s definitely a big positive. But then I decided to take away a half star for the fact that whenever I go in there to order, it seems they have so many regulars during the day, that even if you’re at the counter first and a regular walks in behind you they want to take care of them before you. I thought it was first come first serve. I decided that instead of being a grumpy old pain in the backside that I would order delivery. After one or two occasions where I placed an order for delivery. The food was not only lukewarm at best when i live less than two blocks from the pizza shop. I get one of these delivery drivers that can never just hand you your change. Instead I get the question. How much you want back?! Really! Is this dude for real? Is there something wrong with handing a customer back their change & waiting to see if they feel you deserve a tip. I myself tip almost 90% of the time regardless. But to try and shame a customer into getting one self a tip is not only tacky and shows no class, it is improper etiquette. So with all that has happened in the past. When I placed an order for delivery today & was told that i was $ 1.50 short of the delivery minimum of $ 15.00. So you should order something else. I was at a loss for words for about 5 seconds. All the places that I’ve ordered takeout from within a block or two of this place. All others minimum or not, waived it when they decided that customer was less than 2 blocks from them. To take a loss of $ 14.50 just to quibble over $.50 from a customer who has come to you repeatedly, time and time again that’s sad but I hope they find solace in sticking to their beliefs. Another half star gone! So to end… In the words of Lauren Hill«You might win some, but you just lost one»!!!

Sunny John’s is a South Brooklyn hidden gem that beats overrated Di Fara’s ANYDAY. Pizza here is darn good – fresh, hot, with plenty of cheese, and not too much sauce. I think the key is using really good cheese(cheapo stuff has no flavor). Highly recommend the pepperoni slice. If you are a pepperoni fiend like me, you will be happy to know that is GOOD and they pile. it. ON! Service is friendly and the restaurant is very clean. They also have this really awesome(ancient!) cash register – look for it!

Grandma pizza excellent always seem to have a tummy ache after over eating them. They deliver quickly and the kids love the thinness of the slices. Above average for the area but location not so great.

They have some of the best Pizza in Brooklyn and that is quite a statement. They make a perfect sauce and their squares are to die for. I have never had anything there I didn’t consider top notch delicious, especially the calzones. And Anthony and the crew are really great guys. I highly recommend.

Just picked up Penne w/Vodka Sauce, brought it back to my lunch room. Now I’m out $ 10 and sitting here with a dish which has dry pasta, barely any sauce and the whole onion which was chopped up and thrown in here is now giving me a migraine. Stick to just Pizza.

Sunny John’s make the best Margarita pizza in Brooklyn. The crust is thin and crisp, but not too thin. The fresh tomato is exceollent, the quality of the flour and the fresh mozzarella are superb and exploding with flavor. I usually have them add chopped garlic and anchovies to make the ultimate slice. I have been all over Brooklyn and Manhattan. This is better to me than Grimaldis.

The pizza that I had delivered to me does not even deserve one star. Its too bad I can’t rate it with a minus star. The crust was absolutely paper thin and the cheese was almost nonexistent. The sauce was hideous and had an aftertaste of ketchup. When the pizza slice was folded it only took 3 bites to finish the slice. I have been more satisfied with frozen pizza. This pizza was down right sacrilegious. I have never given a bad review of any restaurant but I felt compelled to do this review. The shame of all is this is that it’s a neighborhood pizza shop that has been in the area for many years and I have had good pizza there before but this is a vergogna.

I have been eating this pizza since I was 5 years old, and as far as I’m concerned this epitomizes great pizza for me. The sauce is perfectly flavored, not sweet like at so many other places and with a nice tomato punch. The cheese is great, and maybe it’s not fresh mozzarella, but nostalgia will always make me love it more than anything fancy. The crust is where they really get it right though: thin, and if you eat it soon after it’s pulled from the oven, crispy and savory to contrast perfectly with the gooey cheese and sauce melding on top. Toppings aren’t a strength here, but that’s all right because a plain slice is so delicious all on its own. I’m also a fan of their calzones; they’re nothing particularly unique but how can you dislike a burst if mozzarella and ricotta cheese oozing out of a perfectly browned pocket of crust? Their garlic knots are my favorites of any I’ve ever tried, and people tend to agree with me; we go anywhere else, and we always measure by the Sunny and John standard(the best we’ve been able to say is «pretty good, but not as good as S&J»). I haven’t had any of their square slices in a while, and I know I should, but usually I get distracted by everything I’ve already described, and sometimes also their spinach rolls. Dipped in a to-order cup of marinara sauce, and sometimes a spinach roll is just what I need to give me the hit of green that I’m craving.

The pizza here is great and is always fresh. If there’s any slice that you want them to make special, they’ll make it fresh and fire it up for ya. One of my favorites is the grilled chicken caesar salad slice. They don’t show it up at the front so you have to ask for it. This along with the buffalo slice makes for a great filling lunch, just what I need to get fired up and right back to work. I’ve been getting to know the owners and they’re a great bunch of guys. In fact I’ve been coming in so often now, I caught them taking bets on what slices I was going to order that day. Fun crew, who will take care of you with some good pizza.

It is really clean. $ 5 can go a long way in here. 2 slices & a Arizona or a snapple. 5 pepperoni pinwheels. Or any combination of the above. (That’s what I usually get) I haven’t tried anything else on the menu as of yet. I usually get my food to go because it’s hard to have a full meal while you’re trying to get your hair done. They have free parking behind the restaurant.

So far I have only ordered twice from here. Both times my pizza was delivered. Really fast service, think tjey left the place in 20 min & I got it in 25 min. I also wanted the crust light, which it was. Also got a beef patty w/cheese & some zeppolis… All yummy… I think next time I want to order, I will go there instead…

Sonny John’s is the best pizza in the neighborhood. They also have really good rice balls & chicken rolls. I highly recommend if you are looking for a good quick slice.

Brand new store, reopened around New Year’s across the street from the old location. Looks really nice inside, and the owner and staff are so friendly and really good people. My business partner can’t have cheese and they made him his own 4 square grandma pizza w/o cheese and some really great sauce. The slices and choices are plentiful and the prices are great as is the food.

Sunny John pizza is Amazing This place is the real deal folks. The sauce is great. Quality ingredients you can taste. This guy knows how to make pizza right up there with the best of them. The team are really cool. You can tell they have a lot of experience. When it comes to pizza less is always more. I have never had a better slice of gramma pie in my life. Keep it up guys. See ya soon!

Awesome! Sunny John’s moved across the street but still has private parking! It’s located in the back, entrance on E. 54th Street. Everything else is the same… same great service from really nice guys… same good food, especially the sauce… clean and homey-feeling.

I go here because they have parking and its only $ 2.00 a slice. The chicken rolls look like a long bread stick, I don’t think I will try that. And it is not that clean. They could use a good scrubbing.
