Decent sized bakery. They obviously bake their own bread as you smell it cooking as soon as the doors open. Smells fresh e wry time I’m here. There’s some seating here as well. They have all types of rolls and hero bread which is usually what I’m here for when I’m in the area.

I really like the bread and the large selection of baked goods. I will even try to pass by it on the way home from work just for the delicious baked smell. However! I don’t really have the patience for the other customers there. They’re all entitled, always jump in front of me in line(if you can call it a line) and the staff never seems to try to keep attending to customers organized. I’m having a hard time getting myself to keep going back there because it’s that frustrating. If I didn’t love the rolls for my sandwiches, I probably would have given this place one star and never come back. I guess if you’re good at cutting in line and have an overbearing sense of entitlement, you’ll be fine here. Okay to be fair, maybe it’s the way the counter staff manages this and it’s definitely not all other customers. Maybe it’s a combination? I don’t know, either way, I end up waiting longer than people who get there after me.

This bakery is great everything is always Fresh and very inexpensive here Sometimes there cakes taste a little bit different because they are using European products and they say they are catering to the polish people in the neighborhood but their stuff is still great

Horrible customer service, the ladies that work there have horrible attitudes… I personality don’t like anyone with a body attitude handling my food. It makes me very uncomfortable thinking they might do something out of spite, so I left

This place, in short, is wonderful. The coffee wakes you up, bread is fresh, the pastries are delicious. I’m polish and grew up in this neighborhood, and this is some old school Greenpoint right here. Mr favorite is the rye bread, and panczki.

The bread is like a cloud, very soft, and if I had to eat a cloud– delicious. The fresh baked bread puts all other stores to shame. Love the bagels. Love the lady cashiers.

Great selection and always fresh. No complaints about any of their products. Buyer beware: Disappointed cheated out of a few dollars change by cashier. Prices are not clearly marked on all products. Don’t expect a friendly smile from any staff.

In this era of blandification, über-competitive corporate giants like Starbucks, Panera Bread and Au Bön Pain threaten to homogenize New York’s appetite. But why surrender to the soullessly stylized murk, when there’s still beacons like Syrena to comfort our cultural and culinary cravings? A treasure of industrial Greenpoint, Syrena slings breads and pastries of the real-deal, home-down, just-like-mama-used-to-make variety. The pragmatic, unadorned atmosphere is a welcoming change from the excruciatingly faux vibe of the Starbuckaroo gang. That’s right, Syrena is strictly business. And their business is dealing in incredibly fresh breads, bagels, and a variety of Polish pastries you’ve never tasted unless you happen to have a Polish grandmother. Did I mention the unbeatable prices?

Accidentally came across the place, very happy that I did. Service was very quick and the staff was very nice. Also very cheap!

I wanted to give this place at least three stars. For the bakery smells that waft through the neighborhood. For the large cases of fresh bread. For the Polish speaking patrons and staff. But the staff person attempted to cheat my friend out of her change for a $ 20. It wasn’t busy. And it wasn’t a mistake. Very deliberate. Won’t be back ever again.

This is the place to get fresh-made bread and bagels. Every kind of bread I’ve had here has been great(and suuuper cheap), my favorite is the olive bread — though come early for that; I’ve hardly ever seen it still there in the evening. They also have lots of interesting pastries and cakes you can buy by the pound. A small amount of money will get you A LOT of pastry, though in terms of quality you do seem to get what you pay for. However, the round jelly cookies are great. The workers are not the friendliest bunch, though you do seem to get better service of you speak Polish.

If you live in Greenpoint(or Williamsburg or Bushwick for that matter) and are not buying your bread here, I have one question, why? I highly, highly recommend the Walnut Raisin bread= ridiculously good and the multigrain or rye. I don’t know why I was buying grocery store bread at all. It also freezes very well and is made day of. There are also a gazilion kinds of bread and nice Polish pastries too). Nice bagels too. Don’t be intimidated if you don’t speak Polish. Everyone is bilingual and super nice. Enjoy! Na Zdrowie!

Definitely a Greenpoint gem, Syrenas is the perfect weekend spot for a pastry and a hot cup if coffee. They’ve got bagels, fresh bread, and so many gorgeous, tasty pastries. Listen to your nose when you walk past. Go inside!

Amazing variety and quality for all kinds of baked goods! This place is truly a bakery, with all their food being made on-premises daily. My wife and I regularly get our breakfasts and breads here, and it’s one of the reasons we’re holding onto our apartment for dear life. Fresh bagels every morning with generous cream cheese(scallion, vegetable, and bacon varieties too!) along with cheap coffee and practically free rolls and buns make this an easy decision for an early bite. Some other reviewers have pointed out what they call rude service. While I understand what they might mean, there is simply an understood system here. You get in line and wait for the next available counter girl. Just tell her what you want item by item and she’ll grab them for you as the line keeps moving towards the register. The first few times I went in I didn’t understand how this worked and got some looks, but when the place gets busy it really makes the line flow! I’ve never had to wait more than 5 minutes for my order! Now I’m one of the people rolling their eyes at newbies. Can’t recommend this bakery enough if you’re in the neighborhood!

Doooooood! So good. I am a fan, certainly. Throughout my life I have eaten many a baked good made by Syrena, purchased from various Slavic stores throughout NYC. Last week, I finally ventured into their own location, and vunderbar darlink, vunderbar. So fresh. So much to choose from. Yippee; hello carbs, I’m ready. The poppy-seed loaf is very good; not terribly sweet(a big letdown for me when things are made with a heavy hand of sugar/honey), an abundance of poppy-seeds, some ground nuts, and a very agreeable dough. The mini glazed«ponchki» or Polish doughnuts; very good. Simple, a lovely dough with the glaze adding the perfect amount of sweetness. The plain rye bread; so fresh, perfect«weight» as it’s not too fluffy and not too dense with my ideal amount of «chewyness».

Good cheap pastries, but TERRIBLETERRIBLE service. Really bad attitudes, answer all questions with«NO». Everything I’ve ever asked them has ended with them rolling their eyes or glaring. Even the polish people I work with are so surprised at their bad attitudes, because we thought it was just a language/polish thing. If you’re in the area and want a boston crème doughnut I’d drop by, but definitely not a destination spot. Also, I’ve seen them smoke in the area they store the baked goods.
