Tasti D Lite

Tasti D Lite franchises vary quite a bit in terms of quality, and this one may just be the nicest. Space was pleasant and clean, and the man behind the counter gave us some extra ice cream for free when we bought some containers to take home. Fluffed air never tasted so good!

Just had a waffle cone with soft serve. It was A mazing.

Friendly staff here at this small ice cream location. I usually stop here once a week to grab a chocolate milkshake with some oreo mixed it. It’s like sipping a drink of the gods. It’s amazing. I highly recommend it.

Nice little fro-​yo joint in the heart of Williamsburg. While exploring the neighborhood with some friends whom I hadn’t seen in over a decade, we stopped by Tasti D-​Lite since one of them was raving about how much she loved their soft-​serve. Even after I tried the Peanut Butter «Moosemellow,» I decided I wanted something with a little more substance and got a cup of cookie dough gelato, which was INCREDIBLE! Price is a tad steep, but for what it’s worth, the taste made up for it.

For reasons that are escaping me at the moment, I was plagued by the sexually suggestive Starland Vocal Band lyrics for the better part of our Brooklyn getaway. I even caught myself singing out loud a few times — no doubt an inadvertent invitation for stares… and maybe even for a couple of individuals willing to take me up on the offer for an afternoon quickie (ew).
At one point, I had just gotten the song out of my head when I saw — what else — a Tasti D’Lite sign! Of course I burst into song instantaneously.
Thinking that we might as well take advantage of my earworm situation, we decided to stop in for a little treat. And bonus — their window proudly advertised the flavor du jour: Nutella D’Lite!
With a little skip in my step, I approached the counter to order my own little happy swirl of Nutella non-​froyo. To my disappointment, the man behind the counter informed me that they actually weren’t offering up any Hazelnut goodness that day. Womp womp. Instead — we were free to select from any of the usual suspects (Translation: boring. Cost: 1 star.). I went with the more interesting of the bunch — Strawberry Banana — which was actually quite yummy! For not being either an ice cream or a frozen yogurt, Tasti D’Lite was surprisingly rich and creamy. And with no artificial sweeteners and fewer calories than their ice cream/​froyo counterparts — it seems the perfect figure-​friendly frozen dessert.
Though I can’t help wondering… what exactly IS Tasti D’Lite? Hmmm… Eh, I won’t dwell on it too much — it was D’licious!

I love Tasti D Lite’s yogurt. This location is clean and their yogurt tastes as good as expected. So, they meet all the expectations I have going in.
Expect to stand on a line here… but expect it to be the most frustratingly hilarious line you’ve waited on in your entire life.
I don’t know what it is about this place, but I think the anticipation of ice cream causes bouts of confusion in the patrons.
I’ve been here several times, most recently, twice in the past week and I was not disappointed. I had to wait on a line that was growing all the way around the room as people became flustered and basically unable to function at the register while ordering ice cream, but at the end of all this, there was a wonderful frozen yogurt. I guess that’s why I can find the situations here amusing…
On my first visit last week, a woman was standing dead center in the middle of the tiny space in front of the counter with the only signs of life being her thumbs as she texted away on her phone. I asked if she was in line. No response. I tried two more times. No response. She was basically like a piece of texting furniture breaking the line in half and confusing everyone.
She was there with another female friend and their boyfriends. I actually thought she might be deaf, but then her friend, who we’ll call Cindy kept running back and forth between the texter and the boyfriends asking the texter what she wanted as the boyfriends kept yelling «Cindy! Cindy! What do you want???» and holding random ice cream comes in the air. I have no idea what was going on.
Last night, I got there as a family of six was trying to order ice cream in a haphazard fashion while tending to their toddlers and trying samples as the man behind the counter and everyone on the rapidly growing line became increasingly tense. Then they tried to split the price several ways at the register and couldn’t figure it out.
I have to admit, I go as much for the ice cream as I do for the show and I give the man behind the counter major props.

Okay, we’re talking about a $ 4 ice cream cone, here, but let’s face it: ice cream is fuckin’ good. You can lick these treats all day without getting crabs or a paper cut, can you say the same about those four dollars?

A definite addiction. Who knew low fat treats could be so damn delicious! My only gripe is the last 2 times I’ve visited, my 2 favorite flavors weren’t available. BOOOO!!! Otherwise, This place is cool as the gelato they serve!

i’m a tasti d maniac, and this is a good location — lots of fresh toppings, always friendly, you can sit and watch the williamsburgians from inside… love.

I don’t agree with paying $ 4 for a small cone of ice cream with 1 topping, but I don’t feel too guilty doing so at Tasti D Lite because the owner is wonderful. He is very kind and you can tell that he is passionate about his store.
I like sitting on the bench outside the store to people watch.

This Tasti D Lite location was a pleasant departure from some of the locations I’ve been to in Manhattan. The place was bright and clean, they’re open late, located in a great area, the guy who helped me was nice, and although they were small it didn’t feel too cramped and still had a few stools. Prices are still higher than what a frozen ice-​cream like dessert ought to be but I still like Tasti, especially this location.

Tasti D Lite? Ever heard of it? Of course you have!
But this isn’t just another Tasti. This one’s got real charm and is owned by a guy named Laurence, who you will frequently find behind the counter. This Tasti doesn’t distract you with candy or some of the other polutants you might find at lesser Tasti locals. These guys are serious about their ice cream.
Firstly, during the non-​summer times you can reliably find the highly coveted «custom blend» where they will actually make you any flavor in the entire Tasti D Lite repertoire. (Not a lot of Tasti D’s will offer this, so be grateful!)
Also, they get pretty creative with their ice cream sandwichs. You can even make special requests and they’ll try to have ‘em in stock for the next time you come.
Lastly, try one of the great non-​Tasti products like Laurence’s new Giant Ice Cream Sandwich. It’s two real cookies (not those super thin ones designed for the ice cream sandwiches) with a giant scoop of ice cream (real gelato, not the Tasti fluff) in between.
Defs worth checking this place out.

We stopped her for some dessert after some shopping and tried the nutella crepes, and wow were they delicous! They also had a great staff, which made the Tasti D Lite experience so much better!
We sat at the table and people watched as they walked passed all the stores. It’s in a great area of Williamsburg!

I was so anti tasti-​d until this location had chocolate macaroon. Usually, all the flavors I have had taste like chocolate or vanilla, even if it’s supposed to be «chocolate chip mint.» Lies! But the chocolate macaroon had the amazing taste of roasted coconuts, delicious. With chocolate sprinkles!
My only gripe: the staff. really «duh» the last time we were there. But I can be found here after having a polish platter at S&B across the street.

Okay, so Tasti D Lite in itself is pretty much crap, but I will give you this: Its a very nice carrier for the chocolate chips/​sprinkles/​half a turkey that you can put on top of it.
Even though I’m still a bit bitter that this place is no longer the L Café, having a good sugar carrier works for me– especially mid-​July.
