The Bird House

Recently, I had to look for another hair dresser because the one I went to stopped cutting hair and only does hair coloring. So I went to Unilocal for some help in my search. There were quite a few salons that got really good reviews which made it difficult to choose. But I decided on The Bird House (I guess because of the pictures of hair cuts they had done) and I picked Megan who hadn’t had any reviews and had just started working at the salon. I have to say I had some trepidation but I figured… hey, hair grows back. I saw Megan yesterday and told her what I wanted and she gave me exactly that. She was really nice in addition. So, I am very happy. I will be back!

I visited this salon after reading all of the glowing Unilocal reviews (also the discount special didn’t hurt!). The salon is on the second floor of an industrial looking building — don’t let the staircase/​entry scare you away, the actual salon is very cute. The young lady at the front desk informed it was not too early to be drinking prosecco (is it ever too early for complimentary prosecco?) and so my short wait time was well spent. Shannon gave me a fabulous cut, some beachy waves and had me out and on my way within an hour. I will definitely be coming back!

I tried the bird house for my hair cut in may, I loved this salon. It is very professional and stylish. I found them from a friend who found them on Unilocal.Which is why I started a Unilocal account because my friend said it is so helpful with discovering places. I am happy I discovered this place. Lovely staff. I will be returning.

A woman named Hannah cut my hair and she did a great job. She was so nice, helpful and spent so much time everything’s perfect — I can show a picture of anything and she did it well and executes perfectly. Hannah was the one of the stylist there who takes time to get to know your hair and your habits –can take your hair exactly where you want it to be. She’s very talented stylists and Professional. Amazing! I have good experience in this Salon, I walked away happy and confident. Prices are good — not overpriced compared to other salons in the city.

I’ve been bouncing around from salon to salon in Brooklyn for a while now, paying way too much for hair cuts that I always felt «meh» about afterwards. The Bird House has finally ended my long search for a great salon, and I couldn’t be happier. I’ve been to Shannon twice now and both experiences have been A+, gold star. She’s super talented, and very easy to chat with.
I booked my first appointment online on a whim because I hadn’t had my hair cut in over six months and it was long, gross, and in desperate need of a cut. Shannon turned my unruly mermaid hair into a medium length almost-​lob, exactly what I asked for, and nearly exact to the Pinterest photograph I brought in as an example. I had my second appointment yesterday with her for a cut and balayage, and she absolutely knocked it out of the park with the color – I’m in love with it.
The salon itself has a great laid back, fun vibe. All of the stylists seem friendly and funny, and they’ve usually got some really great jams playing in the background. I’ll definitely be back soon!

I found The Bird House on Unilocal after reading the exceptional reviews and decided to book an appointment through their app (which is a very nifty tool, by the way!)
I got my haircut here today by Brooke and I am so happy with the results. I showed her a picture and she gave me exactly what I wanted, along with some suggestions that would fit my hair type.
Prior to my experience today, I had been going to salon that made me feel like I was being rushed out of my chair.
At The Bird House, I felt like I had Brooke’s full attention. The place is so cozy!
I should also add that I came from Queens and found it was well worth the trek — and I’m going to happily travel back when I return! I can’t wait to recommend this place to friends!

No wonder this small studio hair salon has 5 stars in Unilocal!First of all, book ahead! I learned my lesson. The fastest way is to make an appt through email. Brooke replied within seconds and she’s so polite! I was scheduled for partial coloring as I only colored half of my hair (it is called underlights) the new term I learned there. I came there right in time for my appt and Hannah, the stylist I had greeted me right away. She emailed me the night before asking for the photos of my current hair and my hair goal. She recommended me several colors and we settled with lavender vivid color. She had to bleached my hair twice and no once she complained about it!
The colored turned out sooooooooo beautiful! I just hope it lasts longer than the previous one (i did it at the other salon)
Hannah is truly a painter and listens to what you wanted. Thanks, Bird House!

Brooke is gospel. I was late because the Über guy started taking me to 10^th Ave instead of 10^th St. And even though she had only 20 minutes to cut my hair before her next appointment — AND was on her own, responsible for taking phone calls and letting clients in – she still gave me her full attention, listened to all my feedback about the cut, and even went back in twice to make sure I thought it was perfect. Truly professional and gifted stylist. Great environment. Reasonable prices. Such a find! (Will post hair photos when I go back next month for color. So excited!)

Today was my first visit to The Bird House — and I will definitely be back. Shannon was my friendly and super talented stylist. She looked at my Pinterest pics and made it happen. My cut and color look great and I feel like a million bucks. Shannon, and head stylist Brooke, couldn’t have been nicer. I had a great experience and will be back! Thank you Shannon!

My hair was in trainwreck shape. Shannon took really good care of me, and put extra time in cutting and styling my hair, even though I was there on a Unilocal deal (far above and beyond the usual coupon treatment!). I hope both she and the Birdhouse stay in the neighborhood, because it was the best salon experience I’ve had in a long time.

I just had my hair cut by Gina and I love it. After a bad salon experience I waited a whole year to get my haircut again and boy did I need one! I was a little gun shy because of my last experience but Gina listened to my concerns and needs and we made a plan. My hair was more than half way down my back and we cut it to my shoulders! It looks and feels so much healthier and thicker! I have a color appointment in 2 weeks and I can’t wait to see what she does next!

Last Saturday I has an appointment with Shannon for an up-​do idea I had in mind for a wedding I was attending that day. Shannon carefully listened to the vision I had and the hairstyle came out even better than I anticipated! She was sweet and gentle with my hair throughout the sesh (because who likes their hair getting yanked and scalp being poked by a bunch of bobby pins?). I am booking another appointment with Shannon for this Saturday to «update» my hair. Please note that I haven’t trusted a hair stylist in over 8 years!
In addition to Shannon, the Bird House itself has a really cozy feeling and you are welcomed right upon entering. My entire experience was great throughout my time there. I highly recommend this place if you want to re-​build your trust in having your hair touched by anyone else but yourself, and also have fun while transforming!

A stumbled upon this gem as I was looking for a hair salon relatively close to where I live. Of course, I was willing to travel miles to find a salon that was going to meet my needs.
And it’s difficult, isn’t it? Even after finding a couple on Unilocal that have a perfect rating, how do you know it’s perfect for you?
Well, I choose the Bird House for a couple of reasons: it was a few train stops away, the haircuts in the pictures seem to be similar styles to what I wanted, the reviews said the stylists listened and got the cut they wanted. I really needed someone to give me a haircut and not leave feeling like (was that really worth $ 100?)
Brooke was my stylist, and I must say this is the first time I’ve ever left a salon ecstatic. I went in with pictures, told her my concerns and what I wanted to minimize (like if you have a long forehead maybe you want bangs), but I was also hesitant because I was showing her pictures of very short hair and my hair has always been long my entire life.
Brooke nudged me in the right direction but I know she only did so because it was obvious I wanted it. She cut my hair 7 inches and after washing it, it felt healthy and my curls we bouncier than ever.
I’ve been getting compliments nonstop about my new hair and definitely will come back for a trim!

I am absolutely in love with this salon! Although it’s a bit pricier than the places I normally go to, it was definitely worth it! The location is a bit difficult to find because the studio is located in a residential area. Despite that, I will definitely be returning to get my haircuts! I normally despise getting my hair cut because stylists tend to cut off too much hair, leaving me in tears. I have to say, I think I’ve found the right hair salon for me!
Shannon took her time to ask me what kind of haircut I wanted and was super gentle when handling and washing my hair. She was pleasant to talk to and had a great personality. During my haircut, I had full trust in Shannon and was not worried at all. She did a great job on the cut and my hair came out exactly the way I wanted. I will definitely be returning!

I found The Bird House as I was looking for a place close to home to get my hair done on my (very low key) wedding day (Oct 2015). They were super accommodating and Ashley did an amazing job giving me the exact style I wanted. She was also insanely pleasant to chat which made the whole wedding prep thing less stressful!
A few months before the wedding I started going to Brooke for hair cut and color and she is amazing (and also furiously pleasant) and I think everyone feels like they are hanging out with an old friend when you are in her chair. I always tell her I love to take a day off work to get my hair done by her because its the best pampering experience and she’s so fun to talk to (and then I get to look amazing afterwards).
More recently I decided to cut a lot of my hair off and I wanted to do it on a day that Brooke wasn’t available so she recommended Jess. I went with a bob, my shortest cut ever and even though I was nervous about it I couldn’t be happier I took the plunge. Jess was really, really meticulous in her cutting and also soooo nice and great to talk to (basically you will want everyone here to be your new BFF). I have received about a million compliments on my new hair.
TL;DR
This place is the unicorn of hair salons: its a beautiful oasis with amazing, unpretentious people that deliver magical results.

After growing out my hair for months, it was time to make my hair donation. I stopped by The Bird House for a consultation because I was really nervous about meeting the guidelines for the hair donation, going shorter, and also getting highlights! I was ready for a change but I was scare. My fears were put to rest for the staff was friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. I booked my appointment and I am happy to say that the five star claim is also followed by the quality of the salon and the services they offer. I have loved and enjoyed my shorter hair cut and baby highlights for the last three months. I am proud to say I will be stopping by in the near future to keep up with my haircut and highlights.

It had been a whole year since I had gotten my hair done and I wasn’t sure where to turn. As a natural brunette, I had this dead, grown-​out blonde ombré and was embarrassed to have my hair down.
I had my appt. in the morning with Brooke & Liz (a prospective candidate for a junior stylist position) and man, I was treated like a queen. They walked me through color and the previous color treatment I had. I expressed how much I’d like to take off and they told me how it’d work with my face shape.
We went darker, with a little warmth, to really compliment my very fair complexion. Liz took her time making sure my hair was saturated in color; even though it was technically an interview, to me, she didn’t come off nervous at all. We spent the time gabbing about Western NY, since I’m from Buffalo and she was from Rochester.
For the cut, I’m only guessing, but we took off at least 10 inches. She shaped and styled my hair into a gorgeous lob and I couldn’t ask for a better cut for the new year.
Ladies, pleeeease hire her! She’s amazing and I’d love to keep coming back! Def trust The Bird House with my locks and can’t wait to see what we’ll do next.

I love this salon. Shannon is the best hair stylist and does amazing color as well! It’s easy to book an appointment and no one keeps you waiting. Shannon is professional and such a delight to talk to while you’re getting pampered. I love that the salon almost seems like an oasis to the crazy city and always feel super relaxed to arrive with the warm atmosphere and friendly faces you see upon arrival! I didn’t even ask Shannon to style my hair, but she did and gave me super cute curls! Definitely will always come back here.

The test of a great haircut comes when I let my hair dry on its own. And Brooke and her Bird House passed with flying colors!
She gave me great rich color, a pretty and functional hair cut which blows out into a sexy swept style that I think suits me nicely too! Brooke totally got me and my hair! We have an exciting plan for growing out my layers and adding in some low lights as we go forward too!
The Bird House has a real eclectic, friendly, hip but very inclusive vibe with diverse music playing, and warm sunshine flooding through the windows. They even have bubbly water! I love me some bubbly water and a new hair do!
