History
Established in 1822.
Founded as the first Catholic parish on Long Island in 1822, Saint James has served as the Cathedral for the Diocese of Brooklyn since 1853 and was designated a Papal Basilica in 1982. Saint James is the Catholic parish serving the communities of Downtown Brooklyn, Dumbo and Vinegar Hill.
