Opening March ’07 family owned & managed; Our stylist, focusing on creating a welcoming & professional atmosphere by bringing together a diversity of impetus, styling experts, not only have we won the support of our Brooklyn neighbors but of our neighboring boroughs alike. Modestly we are very proud of our reputation and are obliged to have such a devoted clientele following.

This is my secret neighborhood spot so I don’t want to blow it up too much but I have to give Maribel some love. I have curly hair and I go to Velvet Roses about every 3x a year to get my highlights and a trim. Maribel always does a wonderful job and really takes her time to make sure she does the job right. She always sends me home with a complimentary product sample, whether it’s Devachan curl serum or a deep conditioning treatment. They also offer free wifi so I usually do work there which is very convenient.

What a great salon! I am never one to have an exclusive hair place as often NYC prices are so high that I end up on LifeBooker, Living Social etc. Looking to find a go to place I found Velvet Rose off of Unilocal and better yet its right down the street from my apt. My first visit was in August, I called and they were able to get me right in with Christie. Christie was so sweet, conversational, and really listened to what I wanted and left happy, I even took her card and held on to it for 3+ months because I wanted to go back! Needing a haircut called to make an appointment with Christie again to find out she is currently only working Saturdays, I made an appointment with Maribel (because she had raving reviews on here) and SO happy with my new look, she listened to exactly what I wanted and even complimented my DIY hair color… I confessed I’m always afraid of brassiness so she suggested a new shampoo to help with the tone of my hair even offering me a sample to take home and try (I just bought a bottle because I trusted her). Overall this place checks off all the boxes! I’m so happy I now have a go-​to place in the neighborhood.

I came here to do my hair and I am extremely happy with the color I received. Maribel has been the only stylist that was able to lighten my hair without damaging it and cut my hair without chopping everything off like a lot of other stylists do. The products they use is awesome and couldn’t imagine going anywhere else. The prices are awesome for work that was done. Maribel is sweet straight forward and I don’t ever want Any other stylist to touch my hair

Karen is an excellent manicurist and pedicurist; she knows how to do nails right! Her job is my most favorite out of all the nail salons I have tried in NJ & NYC. She is highly skilled, friendly, welcoming and sweet. She was such a pleasure to be around!
She started off by removing my previous gel pedicure with solution and aluminum foil wrapped around (something I probably couldn’t do by myself at home, plus I am horrible at painting my own nails). Overall, the combined gel mani & pedi took between 1 – 2 hours for the entire service, but the environment was very comforting for a Saturday.
I got the gel manicure and pedicure done and with a lavishing rose pink color. The pedicure came with a light massage with lotion towards the end, along with having them soaked in warm water. The lotions smelled wonderful and reminded me of a tropical, Hawaiian paradise. My nails still look amazing after about a week… I can expect them to last up to a month! I hope to be back again by the Fall time :-)

Ruthie is amazing! I never leave her chair disappointed. I first came to her a while ago after I got an ombré done at Europa and my hair was falling out in chunks. We decided cutting my hair was the best option so that I could have healthy hair. I haven’t gone to anyone else to cut my hair since then because she understands what I want and executes it perfectly. I went from a bob to a pixie, and my hair is back to being healthy with minimal breakage. It grows back super fast and I visit her every few weeks to handle it.

I needed a new haircut so I looked up a local beauty salon and based on its reviews, I chose this one. I usually have trust issues with hair stylists but I took the chance and made an appointment with Ruthie! She cut my hair and I love it!!! I showed her a quick couple pictures and explained what I wanted and she knew. She’s funny too! I will definitely go back to her and recommend her to my colleagues.

My haircut with Maribel came out amazing. I had heard she was great with all kinds of hair styles so thought I’d give it a whirl with my long, thick hair. I’m guilty of not getting my haircut often enough and blowdrying too often, so my ends are often very dry or split. Maribel took one look at my hair and understood that it needed a serious cleanup, but would not sacrifice the length.
As someone who always has some layers, my hair often looks short post haircut, but my locks look long and healthy for the first time in a long time. I was also surprised to learn that my hair was uneven lengths on both sides, meaning my last stylist (who I paid MUCH more on) didn’t do such a great job.
The best thing was I had a wedding that evening so she blew it out amazingly and then pinned it up so my locks would be fresh and bouncey at wedding time. I can’t tell you how gorgeous this blowout came out. Glad to know I now have a place to go for that as well (and reasonably priced)!!! There is also something very nice about going to someone who has been in the neighborhood for years and had opened her salon on her own. It brings back the small town feel to busy, commercial Williamsburg.

I love this place. Ruthie has been cutting my hair for 2 years now and not once have I had a bad haircut. I most recently cut off about 6 inches for a bob and it came out great. Excellent hairdresser and excellent prices. Would highly recommend.

I’ve never trusted a hairdresser as much as I trust Ruthie. Not only is she talented and excellent at what she does, she’s now a good friend and I’m so blessed to have met her.

Was in desperate need of a haircut and wanted to keep it local rather than dragging myself into the city. I took a chance and just called up Velvet Rose. They were booked, but put me on a cancelation waiting list. Within a couple hours they called me and I had an appointment with Cynthia.
Cynthia did a FANTASTIC job on my hair. She did exactly what i wanted, and i’m a bit demanding with my layers. Highly recommend her.

This place is such a hidden gem! I really should have written this review 4 years ago, but kept forgetting. Maribel is incredible and actually listens to your requests unlike the majority of stylist in this city that just do whatever they feel like to your head, then charge you $ 200.
I like to keep my long, wavy hair very simple, with very little layering and long, side swept bangs. I had an unfortunate experience at a little hipster salon on Leonard prior to discovering Velvet Roses, where the stylist literally spent 20 minute critiquing my hair and face, all while trying to sell me overpriced products. No thank you.
The service is nothing like that at Velvet Roses! Maribel is the sweetest and the prices are incredible. I’ve never done anything other than a trim, but I’m sure the coloring is exceptional as well. These ladies are the real deal!

Disclaimer: I wasn’t able to get a haircut, so my rating is based on my other experience.
I think it would be helpful for them to add to their Unilocal page that they are by appointment only, or have a phone number that forwards to the employees. I waited outside for 15 minutes, from 10:15 — 10:30. The door was locked, the lights were off. A stylist came in at 10:30 and was apologetic but said she already had a client coming in. The other stylist would not be in until 11:15, meaning I would be waiting, in total, an hour before getting a cut.
I know there’s no reason for the employees to be there right at open if they do not usually get walk-​ins that early, or they do not have a regular coming in. But as a customer who walked very far to find out I need to go elsewhere, it would have been nice for someone to answer the phone when I called twice at 10 and 10:05 to know there was no reason for me to waste my morning walking over.

For years I have been going to many different hair salons looking for the ONE for me. But i never seemed to really like any for whatever reason. I booked an appointment with this hair salon and hoped for the best since i was planning to have my hair cut in relatively short layers. Velvet Roses’ very own Maribel did not disappoint at all. She was incredible!!! First, she was on time for my appointment and took care of me right away. She was very polite and professional. Never have i gone to a place where the stylist was so interested in knowing my hair needs and was so willing to accommodate any of my hair wishes. I was in and out of there in a reasonable amount of time, and to my surprise i spent a lot less money than i thought i would. Everything was supper affordable! Never will i go anywhere else in my life!!! 10 stars if i could!!!

I just received a haircut earlier today and I am thrilled. For the past 9yrs I’ve been getting my hair cut in Astoria and was dedicated to my stylist there. She’s on vacation at the moment and I was in need of a cut, so I turned to Unilocal & Velvet Roses came up with the highest reviews. Needless to say, I’m not going to make the trek out to Astoria anymore. Cynthia was my stylist and she was wonderful. As it was my first time there, she was very attentive and asked a lot of questions. She was very friendly and knowledgable. She made me feel very comfortable and since the results were beyond my expectations I will be back!

I’m a guy. 14+ inches of hair. I’m never in the Williamsburg area, but my experience here was soothing, and refreshing! I needed a cut from all the dead ends; wash and blow dry straighten. Ruthie the stylist, took care of it from the moment I walked in the door. Highly pleasant, and professional — I truly admire her craft, and fluidity. Highly recommend! A+ service. Superb.

So, until yesterday I hadn’t had my hair cut by a professional since 2011 because I’m somehow less terrified of my own hack jobs than I am of a bad haircut from a stranger.
Due to sheer nervousness, I probably gave an overabundance of instruction on what to do with my hair. My stylist (I will never remember a name, ever, of anyone) listened attentively, but also importantly didn’t listen on a key part: the length. My cut ended up a couple inches shorter than I was expecting, but as soon as I got a chance to run my fingers through it and mess it up I knew it was the right length for me. It’s the cutest!
Other bonuses: the stylist was really pleasant without making a ton of super-​forced small talk (something else I dread almost as much as a bad haircut [So, what do you do for a living? Yeah? How do you like that? Oh, interesting]) and the price was super reasonable. Thanks y’all!
