Years later, Victoria is still the only one I trust with my locs. I’ve gotten my hair cut and colored since my first review and always been very, very satisfied with the results.

ONLY BECAUSE I COULD NOT MAKE THIS COMMENT W/​O PUTTING ONE STAR IS THE ONLY REAOSN WHY THERE IS ONE — CUZ THIS PLACE DESERVES 0, ZERO STARS & THE LACK OF CUSTOMER SERVICE & CONCERN IS SOOOO EVIDENT. Do not waste your time, travel time and don’t even waste your time dialing her PHONE NUMBER. I traveled over an hour with more than 3 train delays and made sure I let her know I would be running 15 – 20 minutes late. When I got off the train, I got a text saying that, if she does not see me after a certain time, my appointment will close (WHAT IS THIS A DOCTOR’S APPT POLICY !).So, I got off the time in time and she texted me saying she would not take me.
Point 1: I waited over a month for an appointment.
Point 2: This would of legit been my first time ever going there
Point 3: It should of been told while my appointment was being setup that if arrived late that I would not be seen, like many prestigious businesses do
Point 4: How you have no courtesy for someone, when I tell you I am literally right here and you then text back saying you won’t take me, I JUST SAID «I AM OFF THE TRAIN», how are people so inconsiderate and rude when I am the one coming to pay my money, to keep your business running !
Point 5: Then you suggested I reschedule, ARE YOU KIDDING ME ?, After I traveled over an hour
I clearly believe someone was in a rush to leave their salon, because I got a text prior to leaving my house saying that I could come early than what she scheduled me for. But when I first scheduled, you stated that you were super booked and my time was the only time that worked and I then worked my day schedule around this appointment.
Now my hair is not done and I have to find another salon just to get my hair done, to go to my grandmother’s wedding tomorrow. I will not be coming back, will not recommend this place to any of my friends, not even to strangers on the street, nobody should waste time, money, energy or even data rates for text messages/​phone calls to reach out to this business !

Love Victoria. She cares about your comfort and is gentle with your scalp. She is professional and a breath of fresh air. After a session of interlocking, wash and styling my hair looked so much better and came back to life. I highly recommend her for a positive hair experience!

Long story short… I moved away to another state… big mistake Victoria J is the bomb at working my hair. I am sitting here in the chair right appreciating her as she handles the months of new growth. Thanks Vicki J.

I recently did the big chop. Let’s just say I spent big money on the big chop. After my curls that the gentleman in Harlem created came out I realized I didn’t like my expensive cut. I turned to Unilocal to help me find a natural hair salon. I contacted a few salons and even booked an appointment. My spirit wouldn’t allow me to settle so I continued my search. And as I was getting ready to give up I stumbled upon Victoria J Natural hair salon. She was pleasant to speak with over the phone. When I met with her she was very polite. I explained my situation and she told me not to worry. She saved the day indeed. Thanks for the experience and I will be sure to return. I’ve already passed along her information

My mom comes here all the time because she is bow beginning to dread her hair and i know that she loves it and i love it. Its soo cozy and she is soo funny and sooo kind i feel like family. I recommend everyone that plans on having a natural hairstyle go to Ms. Victoria :)

I’ve been getting my hair styled by Victoria for over 8 years! She has supported me through many hair styles, including transition from permed to natural, color for my natural hair, a permed short cut, my big chop, and eventually started my locs! Victoria is an excellent stylist and I trust her completely with any style, color, maintenance that I could think of and I believe she’d be equally supportive of another customer!
When I started my locs I had so many questions, I was doubtful of the loc’ing process, worried about the fuzz, the length, etc. and each time I was able to call Victoria for recommendations or come into the shop for her magical touch. She was supportive and never grew tired of my ridiculous questions.
Over the years I’ve recommended many people to her because she’s always professional, kind, incredibly knowledgable about the daily maintenance of all hair types, and walking into her shop is truly an individualized experience. With Victoria J you rarely run into other customers, so there’s never a wait, and she’s always on time and she works very quickly!
She also uses homemade moisturizer that is incredibly healing and nourishing to the hair and scalp! It is truly divine. You can’t go wrong with a visit to Victoria Js Hair Salon!

to start my locs based on Unilocal reviews and its the worst thing I could have done she has no clue as to what she’s doing the partings was uneven so when it came time to style you really couldn’t because the parts weren’t straight so it just looked WRONG WRONG, WRONG some big some small and the method she used totally messed up my hair I had to cut everything off and start over as for styling she has no clue and shes unable to give a price every time u go there which is every 2 weeks for the same wash and style the price changes and she’s very non-​chalant & condescending I would not recommend not even my worst enemy to this woman she’s a crook and a cobler in one.

I was looking to switch natural salons to try something different. I came across the salon and wanted to give them a shot. I went to the website… wow. left alot to be desired. I couldn’t find pricing information so I decided to fill out the contact us form. I included name, rank, serial number and a link of the style I was interested in and wanted pricing info and availability.
One day pass — no email
Two days pass — no email
On the third day I sent another email
No response
I called the salon — Mentioned I sent two emails and wanted to know the price of a style. I didn’t any apology for the lack of responsiveness. Instead of the cost, I get a price range. Hmm. I’m being specific and you are being vague… What meaning of this?
I was told that they will look at the emails and respond back.
NO RETURN CALL!!!
How rude is that? On the website there all these rules but the simple rules of calling a potential customer back fell to the waistside. I couldn’t even make it inside!!!
Who does that?
Fix the website and work on your professionalism.

She’s the best at what she does. Very professional and gets your hair done fast and neat. Excellent service !!!

This was my 1^st visit to Victoria J Salon. They were able to fit me on short notice and I couldn’t be happier. I found the salon to be cozy and welcoming. Victoria was very warm and professional. She offered great suggestions for styling, which is key to a great loctician. I’m extremely please with the results and will happily visit again.

I was involuntarily given a big chop. My hair was short. I liked it. It was hip and very me. Bigger on the top, shorter on the sides and back. I didn’t go to a barber again because I needed a conditioning treatment after such a harsh winter. I only needed a trim on the existing cut and ALL of my hair got cut off. I know I had some split ends, but not enough to take off all of my hair. It’s not cut evenly to top it off. It was picked out so when it’s wet it just looks patchy and really uneven.
This is the first time I’ve ever cried. In my life, I’ve had bad styles, cuts, you name it. I’ve never cried, though. I cried as soon as I got outside. I cried all the way home. I cried as I frantically tried conditioning some kind of texture back into my hair after that funky blow out that I also didn’t ask for. I cried on the way back to the salon to ask for a refund. It looks like patchy and uneven and although the owner was really nice and offered to fix it (which I don’t believe is possible since all of my hair is gone). She refunded half of my money (which included a tip, because I’m programmed to do 20% no matter what, although I’m starting to rethink that seriously), but it should have been a full refund since I’m probably going to cry every time I walk past a mirror and see this uneven, janky mess.
I have cried pretty much on and off since this has happened. I don’t want to get out of bed. I don’t want anyone to see me.
It’s not Victoria’s fault (the owner). A lady name Shayna for some reason cut my hair off and independently decided it needed to look like a balder version of it girl Lupita Nyong’o.
I’ve got to wait 2 – 4 months for my hair to not look stupid now.

Honestly, she has won a new customer out of me! From the minute I walked into her salon, I felt welcomed and knew my baby locs were in good hands. She works neat and FAST! She’s extremely friendly and informative — if you have questions, she will answer them honestly (which is a breath of fresh air!). Plus, she’s very reasonable price wise.
Very happy to find a new and great salon to go to!

I wanted to like Victoria J. AND. I. DID. It’s all true. I was taken as soon as I arrived at my appointment time. Victoria was professional and informative, answering all of my newly natural questions. Done in record time and for a reasonable price.

I went to Victoria J’s salon yesterday I had a 2 pm and once I got through the door I was already sitting in the chair to get my hair washed. I love the style that Victoria came up with, she is very creative style I wanted originally couldn’t be done with my hair texture, but she came up with a fantastic alternative. She is very down to earth, friendly and talented. The vibe of the overall salon was cool and comfy-chic…I will be going back for sure for any natural haircare !!

I went to Victoria’s shop on Saturday for my «big chop» and she made it the best experience possible. She made me feel comfortable and relaxed about the decision I was making. She informed me on how to take care of my hair and how to embrace it. The shop is very cozy and has a real at home feel to it. Overall I loved everything about it especially her keep it real personality, I would definitely go back and will. I highly recommend anyone who is considering the natural route to visit her shop you will not be disappointed

Best loc and natural hair salon in Brooklyn and I’ve been to plenty. I’ve been coming here for 5 years and have moved out of Brooklyn and still travel here for Victoria’s expert care. High quality products, homemade loc butter and swift fingers for my tender-​head has made me a regular. I highly recommend this salon for anyone looking for the high end natural hair experience at reasonable rates.

I’ve been seeing Victoria for a few years now and I absolutely love coming here! The salon is always peaceful and relaxing with good music playing. There’s never any wait, and I’m always in and out in under 2 hours. And of course my hair is always looking just the way I like it! No one else touches my hair, period.

I found Victoria J through a friend and have been going since 2006. Victoria J is very knowledgeable of hair and having set up a by-​appointment-​only salon, you are sure to get your questions answered and undivided attention.
I have been growing out my natural hair since 2005, to which she has styled with twists, knots, curls using spiral rods and even straightened. I trust no one else but her for the basic maintenance of trims, cuts and/​or even coloring. I don’t see her regularly but when I do she takes notice of my hair, taking notes on shedding, breakage, and mixtures she’s made for me. Her advice and tutorials on what I should do to maintain until the next visit are invaluable. She’s old-​school in her regimen, opting for products that can be found in the fridge and grocery store. She’s constantly reminding me that haircare goes back to what her grandma would do, no need for commercial hair products.
The location is convenient to get to and I occassionally will ride my bike there (as long as my helmet doesn’t mess up my hairdo). Her shop is small, cozy and clean and knowing that you aren’t spending the whole day at the salon really makes for a pleasant experience.

I’ve been to many locticians in my hair journey but Victoria J’s is the first one that made me truly feel comfortable. Her knowledge about hair is unmatched. The relaxed vibe of the shop puts me at ease immediately and the flexibility she affords her clients with appointments is the icing on the cake. I never feel rushed out when I go there. My hair gets all the attention it needs without being trapped in the salon for hours upon end. Even if I move out of NY I’ll still travel back to Victoria J’s.
