I went all the way to Bensonhurst from Washington Heights to have two rings and a pair of earrings appraised because of the five star reviews given to West End Jewelers through Unilocal.Howard and Barry are truly five star gentlemen. They were so genuine and I knew right away that they had my best interest at heart. The price was beyond reasonable and I will definitely be going back to them for my future jewelry needs. My fiancé and I just left from West End to get my engagement ring resized. Howard is an incredibly knowledgable gemologist. We felt very comfortable with him as he resized our ring right on premises in about 30 minutes. He even gave us advice on how to insure the ring. We are very happy with our experience here and will definitely be coming back to get our wedding bands! Reputable and very respectful business. Highly recommended!

Last month I decided it was time to step up and ask the woman I love to marry me. We were to take a trip to Italy and this was the perfect opportunity to give her a token of my devotion.
Like a lot of guys out there I was kinda nervous when it came to choose a ring, though I’m 42 years old (so I’m not born yesterday, if you know what I mean). So many stores… Where am I gonna go? And that feeling that I might very well get ripped off.
A friend of mine recommended West End Jewelers. I trusted him. I was right.
I called the store and spoke directly to Howard, the owner, and right away I had a good feeling. I went that same day to his store. He and his wife welcomed me warmly. They showed me around and offered me many options to choose from, but according to my criteria. Some of the rings are of their own design, and they are just beautiful. Howard advised me and answered any question that I had honestly. I wasn’t even sure if I wanted an engagement ring or wedding bands. I’m really not too crazy about that engagement ring thing, so I went for a white gold band for her and titanium for myself. This also fit my budget perfectly.
At the end I spent a good 2 hours in the store, looking around, talking, hesitating, joking with them. It was truly a good time. I left so very much satisfied.
During the time I spent there, another customer came to pick up a bracelet for his wife. This guy was an old timer, someone you don’t fool. Howard found the bracelet the guy had seen somewhere else for a fraction of the price. He was so pleased and thankful.
They are good people, not after your money, but looking for your satisfaction. I guess that is why they have been in business for several generations and over 70 years!
I know I don’t want to go anywhere else in the future.

This place is wonderful. I recently went to get my engagement ring appraised and had a great experience. Howard and Barry were so friendly and pleasant to work with. They both seemed very knowledgeable and passionate about their work. They also gave me great advice regarding insurance and how to keep my ring in good shape. I had absolutely no idea where to start when I began looking for engagement rings for my girlfriend. I started looking on line at places like Blue Nile, but in my mind, when you are about to drop some serious $$ on something that is going to be on your wife’s finger for the rest of her life, there is no substitute for laying eyes on the diamond and seeing that sparkle in person and in all types of light. So I went in search of a Jeweler. The idea of heading to the diamond district made me queasy. So I hit up Unilocal to find a good place to a start.
One of the first places I came across on Unilocal was West End Jewelers. I could not believe what I was seeing as I scrolled through their Unilocal reviews. At the time, they had around 40 reviews and not a single one less than 5 stars. I had never seen that on Unilocal or on any review page in NYC. No matter how good the place is, New Yorkers are hard to please and you can usually expect someone to give 1 – 2 stars based on the ambient temperature of the establishment being 2 degrees off their ideal temperature. So I had to check the place out.
Barry and Howard were great from the moment I walked into the store. They were exactly what I needed. I needed someone to take the things that my girlfriend had told me she might like in a ring and translate those words into an actual physically beautiful ring. After the first visit, I felt like I was one of Howard and Barry’s old pals and they were going to help me get this right. I could honestly go on and on about how good the experience, and now experiences, were with these guys as I have now returned and gotten matching wedding band for the the engagement ring and my own wedding band. My fiancé (wife in just a little over a week) absolutely loves the ring. The diamond is the shiniest, the band is unique and gets constant complements. She loves it so much that the only time it has been off her finger since the engagement has been the times we’ve gone back to Howard and Barry to check out other rings and they always insist on giving it a quick cleaning. Turns out that these guys, or their family at least has been in business in the same location since diamonds were invented and well before Unilocal.I can completely understand how they receive such high praise on Unilocal.I am a satisfied customer for sure and I’d send anybody I know their way when it comes time for engagement ring, wedding ring, or any jewelry needs (because they also do their own repairs and modifications and anything that an old school jeweler should do). I found this jewelry store on Unilocal.I saw that it had a 5 star rating so I said to myself I’ll give it a try I live close by. I walked into their establishment and was greeted by Howard. He was very nice and I told him I was looking for an engagement ring, he took his time with me and educated me on diamonds. I had no prior knowledge on how diamonds were graded. Howard was very pleasant to talk to, he made me feel right at home. Told him what I was looking for and He told me to come back the next week and he would text me during the week to know the status on his hunt for diamonds for my engagement ring. Sure enough Howard kept his word and I went back the following Saturday. He showed me all different grades of diamonds within my spending range. Howard let me look at them under a loupe. He had settings. The first one he showed me was the one I picked, it was perfect. We discussed a price and came to an agreement. Howard did not put any pressure on me to buy a ring. He didn’t even ask for a deposit to start making the engagement ring. I can see why West End jewelers family business has been around for a very long time. Overall, I was very happy with the finished results and so was my Fiancé. The ring fit perfectly and looks amazing. Howard has great taste and an amazing eye for diamonds. I highly recommend coming here. Howard and his brother are very nice and pleasant. They take care of their customers. I couldn’t be happier. I’ll be shopping here from now on for jewelry.

West End Jewelers deserves every 5 star review it has received. From the moment my fiancé and I arrived, Howard greeted us and showed us around his store, introducing us to his brother Howie and wife Gail, showing us photos of himself and his family, making us feel right at home. He polished my ring while he educated us on what goes into appraising a ring. When I received the ring back, it was cleaner and shined more brightly then when I first received it! He then appraised the ring right in front of us while explaining what he was doing. We received the appraisal on the spot and were invited to come back anytime for a complimentary cleaning.
I’m extremely happy we chose to get our ring appraised with West End Jewelers and I will definitely go back for an appraisal and ring cleaning in the future.

After a few months of having unsuccessfully searching for THE engagement ring, my now-​husband and I were pointed to Howard at West End Jewelers by a good friend of mine. He said that his family had been using West End exclusively for decades. Boy, am I glad he spoke up!!!
Upon meeting Howard, Yianni and I were immediately taken with his outgoing, friendly, funny personality, and his undeniable expertise. He asked us many, many questions about what we were looking for, our price range and our timeline. He then made an appointment with us for the following week, to come in and try on some rings. In the meantime, he said, he wanted me to look at a particular website and email him pictures of engagement rings that I thought I’d be interested in.
One week later, we were back and Howard had truly come through for us! He had quite the selection for me to try on, and had the patience of a Saint as I oooooh’d, aaaaaaah’d and tried and re-​tried the rings which called to me the most. In the end, my husband bought me the exact ring that I had always wanted, and at a fraction of the cost which we were confronted with at other jewelry stores. Not only that, but it’s crystal clear, excellent quality and an absolutely gorgeous, respectable size!
Months later, it was time to go back to Howard for the Wedding Bands. Howard came through for us, once again. While my ring was easier, being part of a set, Yianni’s taste and requirements were much different. Howard bent over backwards to help Yianni find the perfect forever ring.
If you visit Howard looking for jewelry, you can rest assured that he’ll be completely transparent with you about everything from the smallest details about the jewelry, whether or not to insure it, (engagement ring — YES!, wedding band — No) and he’ll help you fix and clean all of your jewelry either at cost or for free, (depending on how labor-​intensive the work is) to why something is the price that it is.

Howie helped my now-​fiancé and I design an exquisite sapphire engagement ring that’s seriously the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. Howie took the time to figure out exactly what we wanted, and scouted multiple stones and bands to find the perfect combination. He also gave us quite the education on sapphires! It was awesome to be able to design the ring ourselves, but I never saw the completed design until the actual proposal, so it still felt like a surprise of sorts.
In addition to providing excellent jewelry, Howie is very attentive and responsive if you have any questions about caring for your stones, etc. I can’t recommend them highly enough! Please skip the mall jewelers and swanky Manhattan spots and go here!

These guys are top notch. I inherited a ring from my great great-​aunt and came here for an appraisal and they did it quickly and relatively cheaply. Nice guys too!

My husband bought my engagement ring from them many years ago. I told my then boyfriend the vision I had in my head, and he talked to Barry and I got the ring of my dreams! I love my ring, I have worn it every day ever since. I still stare at my ring. I have never been able to spot any inclusions in any of the stones. I get lots of compliments on my ring, especially because it is a heart. We are very grateful to have found jewelers so honest and with such attention to detail. Their price was very fair. My fiancé and I went in with a question about a pair of diamond stud earrings that had a longer back and was poking me, making them uncomfortable to wear. Not only did everyone in the staff come to help, they seemed to genuinely care.
They suggested to just round out the little stick portion of the earring, so that it wouldn’t be as sharp. It worked, and now I can wear my earrings without any issues. They even cleaned my engagement ring. They didn’t want to charge us either, which shows that they value repeat customers, and a repeat customer I will be!

When working with a jeweler trust must be the basis of the relationship. Without trust there’s nothing. Frankly most of us can’t tell the difference between a piece of glass and a beautiful diamond. Of course my wife is not in that category.
I contacted Barry about 10 years ago and explained the vision that my wife had of her ultimate dream engagement ring. It had to be a heart cut diamond nearly inclusion free with beautiful baguettes on the sides firmly attached.
What Barry came up with was elegance beyond belief. And at a fair price as well. I still catch my wife staring at that ring in the sunlight. And for 10 years she’s looked for flaws to no avail.
As a husband I really like the fact that out of nowhere my wife will grab me and hug me and say «I love my ring and you so much». It’s so gratifying to hear that.
Barry and his brother only sell quality at a fair price. When they speak you can take that to the bank!

I’m always wary when dealing with a business with a pristine reputation. Who can seriously be –that– good? Well, West End Jewelrs can. Also, Mountain Province Coffee, but that’s a different story.
Being newly-​engaged, we had to get the ring appraised before it could be insured. West End was a bit of a trek, but well worth it. Having called to make an appointment, I was warmly welcomed by name when we got in. There was a bit of a wait, but there were some lovely pieces to look at so the time went quickly. When our turn came, it felt like the whole staff joined in to praise my choice in both ring and fiancée — and I am not immune to flattery.
But the appraisal was professional, honest, and very reasonably-​priced. Only $ 25 for this solitaire ring, no matter the karat size — the pricing is based on complexity, not size. Honestly, I see where the 5 star rep comes in, and I’m happy to add to it.

Howie, Barry and staff are the most honest and reputable business people I have ever meet. I’ve been shopping over 30 years.
Always a fair price. Always outstanding quality stones and always a wide selection of high quality jewelry .

Terrific experience here getting an engagement ring appraised. Howard was a true gentleman and made me feel at ease throughout.
I especially appreciate that he charges a fair price for his work ($ 30 – 60) depending on the complexity of ring. Many appraisers in Manhattan charge ~$ 75 per carat, despite a larger stone being no harder to appraise than a smaller one.
Highly recommend West End Jewelers for some old-​fashioned honesty and genuine service.

Wow. I honestly cannot say enough great things about Howard and Barry. Newly engaged, one of the first things I needed to do was insure the ring, and that required an accurate appraisal. We initially got the ring appraised with the same jeweler who made it for us (not West End Jewelers) but felt the appraisal was a bit inflated and we didn’t want to pay an arm and leg for insurance (if we didn’t need to). I found West End Jewelers on Unilocal,and after a few very pleasant and informative phone calls with Howard, we made the trip on a Saturday afternoon.
Entering the shop was like entering my Grandmother’s house for a Sunday family dinner. Both Howard and Barry (and every other staff member we met) are so, so friendly, kind, and witty… Yet professional and incredibly knowledgeable. Howard immediately had my ring cleaned (I didn’t even know it was dirty, it looked amazing after) and then took his time with the appraisal, explaining everything to my fiancé and I along the way. I trusted him completely and also learned a lot about diamonds in the process.
In the end, we were VERY happy with Howard’s appraisal. He appraised the ring well over what is cost my fiancé (without knowing what he paid) but enough under the other appraisal we had, making me feel like Howard really have us a realistic number. He also gave us a ton of info about an insurance company (we wound up just using the company we already had some other policies with).
In addition, the appraisal only cost $ 35 (I think they charge between 20 – 50 depending on the complexity of the ring). Some other appraisal services in the area charge well over $ 100 and charge by the carat, which is ridiculous.
I really am so pleased with the whole experience at West End Jewelers. I am definitely going to be using them for some future Jewelry related needs (other appraisals, resizing, resetting, etc). I am thrilled that they have so many great reviews on Unilocal,because us Brooklynites need to be even better at supporting great, reliable, local businesses like West End Jewelers.

West End Jewelers is THE engagement ring, one stop shop, where no budget is too big (obviously) or too small. Howard and Barry are experts in the trade, and the business has been passed down from generation to generation; this is not a fly by night store.
Inside had remained the same for YEARS; I’m perfectly okay with that, because what’s most important is their amazing variety and trending styles. Bracelets, watches, rings, earrings, and yes — finding THE ring.
My now fiancé came here since not only has father come here, but his grandfather. Keeping with tradition, Howard spent weeks finding the right diamond using the four C’s, and then the setting. Using a picture he found online, my fiancé expressed he really wanted it made, and it was done! I couldn’t have been happier with how it came out! The whole staff was in on the process; how many places can say that?
My love and I will be returning in a few months for our wedding bands! Nothing could be more exciting, and nothing made us feel more at ease knowing we were working with the best. Thank you all so much for my ring!
