It seems like it’s all been said in the other reviews. This place is literally the only place I’ll shop for bras anymore. I’ve been here a few times in the past two years and after about a 10 month gap between visits, the owner still remembers my bra size and goes to work pulling my style. It’s pressure free and fun. The anxiety and dread I used to anticipate going bra shopping has turned into a fun experience where I invite a friend and we have a glass of wine or seltzer while we shop. Their selection is wide ranging and I’ve even found bras without underwires that actually support me! It’s a miracle!

For me, shopping for lingerie sucks. I never know what size I am and many lingerie stores can feel intimidating and stiff. Walking into Winkworth is totally different. Susie is so friendly and takes all the work out of shopping with her thoughtful suggestions. I loved everything she gave me to try on and it all fit perfectly. Not cheap but totally worth it for the beautiful lingerie and great service.

If I could give Winkworth more stars, I would! Susie is a dream lingerie shopping companion. I have never had so much fun on the hunt for bras & panties in my life! Winkworth has a gorgeous selection, and a variety of options no matter what you’re looking for. Quite honestly I don’t think I ever need to look for lingerie anywhere else :) Shop local and you won’t regret it!

The best under-​things shop in NYC. It’s a bit off the beaten path on the far north end of the Columbia St waterfront, but an easy walk from Brooklyn Heights, Cobble Hill, or Carroll Gardens. There is none of the fussy, cutesy-​pie atmosphere of so many other lingerie shops. It is decorated with beautiful vintage textiles and furniture. The selection is impressive, especially considering it’s a tiny little shop! They carry great, hard-​to-​find labels like Mary Green, Clo Intimo, and Huit. The fitting rooms are huge and the owner is super nice and helpful. Be sure to dig through the sale basket!

I went here last weekend and the owner went out of her way to make me feel comfortable and help me find something that was beautiful. She is awesome and made shopping a no-​pressure, really fun experience.

There are not enough stars for this shop. Service, selection and overall experience were out of this world. If you’re buying lingere anywhere else, you’re missing out on this truly awesome experience!

Shop local! This store has a great selection of amazing pieces with a wide range of styles. Susie helps you make the right choices so you aren’t flying blind. Your paying for quality items that will last and stuff that not everyone else has. Can’t say enough good things about it.

I’ve been living in the hood for a few years and never knew about Winkworth. The owner was so incredibly helpful and friendly. Took the time to help me find the perfect fit. Sometimes bra shopping can be pretty annoying but she defnitely took the sting out of it! Offered a glass of wine and some good conversation. Some really gorgeous lingerie in the shop. I would highly recommend checking it out.

Everyone knows having a baby changes a woman’s body. For me, my right boob is at least one full cup size bigger than my left. I was determined to wear this silk spaghetti strap dress to a wedding this weekend, but I didn’t know what I was going to do about the fact that my lopsided tatas were quite noticeable. I found Winkworth on Unilocal and came in to see what they might have that could work for me. Susie went way above and beyond what any «average» lingerie store might have done. She tailored the dress by adding in some padding on the left cup, shortening the left strap, and closing up the deep V a bit and voila, the dress fits wonderfully!
I also grabbed some adorable and sexy things for two girlfriends’ bachelorette parties, and one sweet thing for myself. The total cost for everything was more than fair.
I am SO glad I came to Winkworth and Susie’s stellar customer service will bring me back in the future.

The shopkeeper said it right when she described visiting this store as «like hanging out with your best friend at her apartment, if your friend is a French prostitute».
I strolled in here yesterday, thinking maybe I’d buy a pair of panties, and walked out with $ 200 of gorgeous lingerie. Whoops!
There are items at a range of price points, all of obvious high quality and ranging from practical to frivolously sexy. In addition to lingerie, they also carry loungewear/​PJs, along with some shoes, purses, etc. The sweet and non-​pushy clerk offered me a glass of wine while I browsed and tried things on. Ended up scoring one great bargain (discount bra for $ 15!), and one expensive but gorgeous slip/​garter ensemble.
Truly a store of feminine delights!

I almost want to take off a star because the one downside of this place is that I always end up spending more than I mean to… but that’s my fault, not theirs. (Unless I can blame the wine they plied me with while trying on bras.)
The ladies here are beyond helpful — they are genuinely friendly, and you end up hanging out as well as shopping. They kept my boyfriend entertained and his wine glass full while I tried stuff on.
You can find everything from really cute everyday cotton undies to crazy expensive sets to quirky thigh-​high tights and cute hats. Good thing I don’t live in the neighborhood or I would be dropping cash on lacy unmentionables here every weekend!

I love this place! Both partners are super helpful and charming, interesting women. They are indefatigable in finding the right bra and will even pour you a glass of wine for you as you try one one delicious piece after another. This is a wonderful place to shop and peruse!

Recently, I had the pleasure of walking in to Winkworth as a curious potential shopper… and I walked out an hour and a half later as a true Winkworth devotee. I have never before had such a delightful lingerie-​shopping experience. In other standard lingerie shops, one is either swarmed by women insisting you don’t know your own bra size (which, let’s face it, can often be true) or one is left entirely alone, fending for one’s self among piles of panties. Winkworth takes all the stress away from the moment you enter — all you need to do is reap the rewards of such a carefully chosen collection.
Susie, one of the store’s co-​owners, is fabulously knowledgeable and eager to help you find that hidden gem you always knew was out there but you never really expected to find. She’s all about color in the chilly and drab winter months — and we ladies know that it’s always nice to be able to have something to smile secretly about under all those wintery layers. As a fellow redhead, she was a great help in selecting fun colors and flattering styles. If you have the time to spare (and if your significant other enjoys sitting back for a show), you could easily spend an hour trying on the options that Susie scurries around to select for you. Clearly it’s her passion to enable you in your lingerie-​buying so you walk out feeling like you’ve just purchased an item you’ll cherish for a long, long time… and that you can hardly wait to put on.
Thank goodness for the fact that I discovered this prior to my anniversary — presents for him can double as indulgent presents for myself, too! You won’t be the slightest bit disappointed if you make the trek out to Winkworth. It’s a truly wonderful find and I’ll be back again soon for more.

Well, I walked in and said «Hello.» to the woman working here and she didn’t respond. I wandered around the empty store, even glanced her way smiling and she did not even look me in the eye. I opened the door to leave — and didn’t hear a peep from her — even though she was less than 6 feet away. For a tiny, empty shop this felt really awkward.
On top of that I didn’t pick up a single thing. I didn’t understand the shop’s buyers point of view at all. Very random. I live down the street, and would love a nice lingerie, accessories boutique to frequent, but sadly I won’t be back.

I pass this place just about every day, and when I finally stopped by, I found some really well-​priced accessories, and some cute lingerie. Some of the items can be a bit pricey, but I got a great cami and panties for around $ 35, so there are definitely good values to be hand.

winkworth is a lovely little shop that seems to appear like a mirage on this somewhat desolate part of columbia street. very cute, tiny and cozy with a surprisingly large selection of funderwear and pjs and camisoles and all sorts of gorgeous underthings. the owner helped me out tremendously when i popped in to look for some wedding lingerie. the prices are exceptionally fair, especially given the quality of the pieces and the attention that you get while shopping. an altogether inviting little place that i need to remember to frequent more, well, frequently.

I have never had such a positive lingerie-​purchasing experience — ever. Bra-​shopping is usually right up there with pants shopping in the painful & traumatizing department, but *not* at Winkworth! A beautiful bra does wonders, and my visit completely made my day! I’ll definitely be back.
Susie is awesome — a non-​judge-​y enabler who is encouraging but not pushy. A huge woohoo and thank you to Cap’n Jack’s Panty Shack. I can’t recommend the quality and service more highly.
It is really not that hard to get to the shop. It’s a shortish walk from the F/​G at Bergen or the B61 (the Ikea bus). Plus there are lots of other boutiques and restaurants in the neighborhood.

I have a bad lingerie habit, and Winkworth’s owner, Susie, is my pusher-​man. You see, in addition to Susie’s line of gorgeous, silk georgette negligees, this dainty boutique is the best place in the city to find Princesse Tam-​Tam underthings.
PTT is a French brand which manages to be dainty but not frilly, feminine but not girlish, sexy but never trashy. I have sets in Liberty prints and others in lace; panties and thongs — all are beautifully made and fit/​support like a dream. While it’s relatively inexpensive in its native France, currency exchange being what it is, a PTT bra will currently run you $ 50-​$ 60. Not exorbitant, I know, but a lot for me.
Even so, I make the trek to this rather remote block in Red Hook — from Greenpoint, less — every few months. The owners Susie and Sonia and the adorable French salesgirl, Melanie, are all warm and charming and genuinely excited about lingerie. While there’s a lingerie boutique’s lack of reserve, there is no snobbery, no disinterested manhandling a la Town Shop or rather humiliating appraisal as at Orchard Street Corsets. It feels friendly rather than exclusive, completely comfortable and very relaxing. Highly recommended to any gal who wants something lovely but doesn’t want the Italian-​mistress feeling of leaving a La Perla.
