Unfortunately, Winn has closed. Yet another local store closed so developers can build.

they are going out of business and everything’s is on sale. never liked this place much. mostly because of the staff. but it was the only cheap home ware store in the area. let’s hope it’s replaced by something other than a bank or bs foodie tapas bar with Edison bulbs hanging from the ceiling.

Great store! Love that fine man in the aisles the brown skinned guy, he makes me feel like he’s a problem solver everytime I visit. Great respectful clerks, honorable cashiers, prices are decent for the area… love it

It’s a small neighborhood business so you might pay a little more– it’s OK, you’re paying for the convenience and supporting a mom and pop. You can sign up for coupons, too! The variety of merchandise here is great– you’ll find tons of stuff you need and some that you didn’t even know you needed. Shopping tip: be sure to check the expiration dates on health/​beauty products before buying, as you should everywhere anyway.

They have a serious negative attitude about returning faulty appliances. Not user friendly. Avoid at all costs.

Ok it’s not bed bath or Home Depot but if I move my car I may never find another parking space. It has a big variety of merchandise. Remember Woolworth five & dime. We’ll it isn’t the cheapest place in town, but it is in the neighborhood and yes they did clean it up. I just bought a set of Riedel wine glasses and they had a special but 6 and get 8 so the price wasn’t bad. It’s the place to go when you can’t find something that no one else in the neighborhood has.

Most of the reviews below complain that this place is expensive. Ok, most of the items are a little more than you’d pay at Target, or wherever. But the amazing things about it are threefold, and they are why you come back (if you live in the neighborhood, you do it over and over and over again, and will continue to do so, as I have for the last 6 years):
1. Do you need paper plates at the last second and realize that the grocery store doesn’t sell them? Winn has them… in, like, 15 different colors, 5 different materials and 8 different sizes. Including those faux-​fancy holiday ones your mother-​in-​law sends you to look for. What about a new lightbulb? Some Icy Hot for your sudden back pain? A high-​end stainless steel trash can? Curtain rods and blinds (cut to size)? Green nail polish? These are just a few of the things I’ve needed in a crunch (other than the green polish, which was just a whim because this store is SO full of whimsical items you just find yourself *needing.*)
2. They cleaned up and they’re super organized now. It’s true. Much less junky-​looking. And have you ever asked one of the guys who work there for something you couldn’t find? Because they know where everything is! And they’re nice… they actually want to help you find that thing.
3. So you pay $ 10 for that piece of crap that’s only $ 3 at Ikea… well, this isn’t Ikea. It’s a family-​run business that has been around for a long time and doesn’t pay what Ikea pays to carry that same thing. Maybe if more people frequented this gem of a store then the prices would reflect it.
Next time you need something from a drugstore or hardware store or stationary store or art supply store or party store, check Winn Home & Beauty first.

i’m sorry to be rude here (yeah not really), but who the hell does this place think it is charging $ 14 for a plastic dish rack that can be purchased for $ 3 at IKEA? i must say that i have fallen victim to this place b/​c it does have EVERYTHING, but the prices are seriously ridiculous… like you won’t believe how much your bill will be after getting a few home necessities. Mrs. Meyers dish soap? you’ll have to refinance your home!

try to avoid this place if possible. they have a monopoly on the neighborhood because there is no competition for a store of similar products, but i hope one comes soon. this place has definitely been in business for a long time, but with its prices i don’t understand why.
the only upside is that they have great holiday decorations that i admit to purchasing to spruce up my office. :)

I don’t care if this place is old and unrenovated, they have pretty much everything you could need in terms of random household items at decent prices, especially for the neighborhood which doesn’t offer much of that otherwise. I find myself making a trip here multiple days in a row, and I know I’ll be back probably in the next day or two.

VERY overpriced on most things. However, I am giving 2 stars instead of 1 because it is nice to have a store to check when you have no idea where to find something. And they usually have it.

Winn Discount is one of my favorite stores to wander through. I love that you can basically think to yourself: hmm, I need _​_​_​_​_​ (some of my exciting finds are: feathers [FEATHERS!], odd salad dressing containers, *just* the right spatula, weird nail colors) and It’s all there! The staff is very helpful and will take the time to help you find your item. –also impressive: the DVD selection [who knew!]. Thanks Winn Discount. You are a magical experience.

This is old Brooklyn. The Brooklyn before Carroll Gardens & Cobble Hill became so overcrowded and flooded with bar after bar.
It’s supposed to be a discount store but their prices can be steep — depending on what you’re looking for.
They have drugstore items, hardware store items, household/​kitchen items and more.
I can be a bargain shopper so it would be silly to do all my one stop shopping when I can find the same merchandise blocks away for cheaper.
Nevertheless, more times than not, you can be assured of finding what you need at Winn even though their aisles are cramped, narrow and sometimes cluttered. One thing is that they have a good return policy.
I’d give this place more like 3 stars but since I’m feeling nostalgic, I’m giving it 4 especially since major retail shops have invaded most neighborhoods.

Popped into Winn the other day for some basic plumbing supplies. ended up walking out with Riedel wine glasses. makeup for my girlfriend. and some organic cleaning products. You have to love the local old-​school feel of the place. reminds me of local stores when I was a kid. and any store that carries a toilet kit and has Reidel Wine glasses is cool with me. this place has EVERYTHING!

Not a bad place, sometimes you just have to go here. But be forewarned, the prices are way higher on certain things than you might find in a normal grocery store or privately owned drug store.
Sometimes they have what you need and you just pay it. But other times it’s probably a good idea to walk the extra blocks and not pay $ 13.99 for garbage bags.

This is my 2^nd time posting this same review. I dont understand why it was removed to begin with, but here goes again, 2^nd time around:
So to start off my review i would like to say I only gave this place five stars because of the awesome helped i recieved from the store’s manager, Sal. I am kind of new to the area so i wasnt sure about what spots would be best to check out, but thank goodness i came into Winns. i walked in with a list of items i needed, half expecting them not to carry most, but i was wrong. I got baby items, beauty products, house products, party supplies and so much more and Sal knew what to recommend and where to find it. Great guy with an awesome personality, i will definitely be coming back in here soon! Thanks Sal! You guys have just gained another regular customer.
P. S. Only con is the store is way too cramped making it difficult to maneuver around with a stroller. But hey if you want to find a variety of stuff all in one spot, i wouldnt expect it to be any other way.

The aisles are cramped, the prices are high, but what a soft spot I have for the Winn. [Formerly the Winn Discount. I guess they realized they weren’t fooling anyone anymore.] Whether you’re preparing for an Oscars party or a hurricane, I love that you can find everything you need at this store. I love that actual Brooklynites work here. I love that Frank Sinatra plays on loop seven days a week. Mostly I love that it’s close to my apartment. But give Winn a try– this is what the neighborhood is all about.

Ok so its no questions that this place been here since prehistoric times. Im talking ages. Dinasours used to go there to buy some rock softener. Anyway, the place literally has practically everything u need. I mean u can go in there and seriously ask for anythng, and chances are they have it. Nowadays places like rite aid and cvs are turning to grocery stores, but winns literally tears those guys up with the merchandice they carry. I would give it 5 stars, but i agree with the Unilocalers, they are just A TAD BIT EXPENSIVE ON SOME ITEMS NOT ALL. But than again who else has those items in the neighborhood?

This discount spot has been here since the beginning of time! You can tell just by passing by it! That sign «Wynn Discount» has been there since electricity was introduced… and I love it! This corner store reminds me of what Brooklyn used to be… BROOKLYN! Not some place full of nannies, french people and stay-​at-​home dads (I’ll never get over what Carroll Gardens has turned into, take me to the 90s!!)
This store is very, very crowded with endless supplies and inventory crammed in long, narrow isles. But I didn’t care as they had «Sinatra’s Greatest Hits» playing throughout the store. I mean, if this spot doesn’t scream genuine BK, then I don’t know what does!
Not going to lie though, everything is way overpriced. I had visited Rite aid a block away before coming here and the same toothpaste that was in Rite Aid was $ 2 more here. The same shampoo…$ 2.40 more at Wynn. But whatever! Let them jack some prices! They totally deserve it for keeping it BK style all these years and preserving their anti-​yuppie vibe!

So the other reviews have pretty much nailed it. It is both a wonderful treasure chest of stuff and also a dirty and somewhat overpriced store as well, so I’ll go middle of the road and give it a 3 star rating. The best way to describe this store is that it is the mutant offspring sprung from the mating of a hardware store, toy store, drugstore, and a walmart. Probably if it wasn’t one block from my house I would not go here. What I usually buy here can be found at a one of the other stores just as easily and usually in better condition. However, having this store so close is an amazing convenience as you can truly find anything here and there have been times when I’ve been searching for an item, looked in many stores and was only able to find it at the Winn.

Winn Discount is the kind of small business you root for: it works hard to keep up with megastores like Target, prides itself on knowledgable customer service and really listens to its customers. Since leaving the area I’ve come to appreciate how unique it is; no other store of its ilk can compare in terms of inventory.
Plus, it’s magic.
Seriously: it’s a relatively small space, and they have EVERYTHING IN THE WORLD. And, amazingly, know exactly where it is.
Once I heard a woman joke, «you could shop here your entire life and never need to go anywhere else. Well, maybe you’d need to get a coffin at a different store.»
«What for?» replied the owner. «We have leaf bags that are easily big enough to hold a human body!»
