Consign and Design

Of course it’s schlocky but it’s used furniture and tchotchkes, people!
I’ve gotten some great stuff and cheap cheap cheap! The staff will answer questions and take your money very politely but nothing more.
All in all, I wouldn’t expect anything more (again, used furniture!!) and it’s usually worth a trip in.

Stopped in on a whim. Saw a piece I really liked. It was not tagged with a price. I asked the woman tending the store if she know the price. Was told it had just come in and she would have to check with «the guys». I left my name and number for her to call when she found out the price. That was on Friday. I called them on Sunday only to be told they still did not know the price. I called today only to be told «that piece just sold». Thanks so much for the courtsey, not…

As a buyer, I appreciate several things about this place:
— Large selection (they have SEVEN rooms)
— Rapid turnover (you can go back every few weeks and see substantially new stock)
— A variety of styles and time periods (‘70s bedsteads next to 100-​year-​old roll-​top desks)
Over the years, I’ve found a number of excellent pieces, including a high-​gloss cherry Queen Anne coffee table and two gorgeous 7′ tall finished wooden bookshelves (the latter were $ 109 for the pair).
They’re very clear that staff does NOT help with carrying furniture to your car or loading, so bring your own help. And some of the staff are simply there as cashiers — they don’t necessarily know anything about the pieces or about furniture in general.
Still, it’s an excellent destination for browsing, and if you make 2 – 3 trips you’re almost guaranteed to find something you’ll be dying to take home. Even if it’s not what you came in for: I just bought a Craftsman workbench ($ 26)!
Easy to find, on West Chester Pike just a mile off of Exit 9 (Broomall/​Newtown Square) of I-​476, aka the Blue Route.

BEWARE! I’ve given several items on «consignment» and they all miraculously sell just after the 6 week period has expired. I’ve never gotten a cent for items sold valued at over a thousand dollars! I’ve learned my lesson.
