History

Established in 1902.

Stewart & Stevenson, established as a horse and carriage shop in Houston, Texas in 1902, began harnessing diesel power for commercial and military applications after acquiring a GM Diesel engine distributorship in 1938. Diesel generators built for World War II efforts expanded into power solutions for all military branches, AmericaÕs space efforts, aircraft ground support, oil and gas equipment, marine vessels, on and off highway transportation and agricultural uses. Today Stewart & Stevenson partners with world-​class manufacturers of engines, transmissions, generators, air compressors and material handlers to provide power solutions for the oil and gas, marine, transportation, power generation, construction, industrial, material handling, mining and agricultural markets.
