History

Established in 2009.

Ice Cream, paletas, and milkshakes have been our line of business for over 30 years. Our milkshakes (licuados) and ice cream shakes (malteadas) have been number one in Matamoros, MX for two decades.

In 2008, my father and I decided we should bring the familiar sweet flavors of Mexico to the USA. With that we decided to incorporate gelato and sorbet, a novelty to Brownsville. We attended international ice cream expos and gelato making classes. We developed a unique appreciation for all the different kinds of frozen treats and created a place where people can come try them all in one shop.

The reason why we do what we do:

Through out the years my father and I came across customers who would reminisce about traveling to Matamoros and eating at our shops during their childhood. Today, these loyal customers find nostalgia at Popeii.

Business Owner

Popeii is a family owned and operated business. Mario has been in the ice cream, paleta and milkshake business for 31 years. He is the face behind the operations and Cuzette, his oldest daughter, is the face behind the administration. For the past five years, together, they select quality ingredients and create naturally delicious treats and fun eats.
