History

Established in 1982.

In 1982 there were only a handful of nationally certified interpreters in Maine. Accessible services and opportunities for Deaf persons were increasing and a greater need for professional interpreters was emerging. However, a trend was developing that encouraged the hiring of non-​professional interpreters. Seeing the need to promote the use of nationally certified interpreters, we were emboldened to start a small interpreting service.

It began with just the two of us, Victor (CSC certified in 1980) and Ruth (CSC certified in 1986), and has grown into a network of professional interpreters state and region-​wide.

Unlike a referral service, we are a full-​service interpreter brokerage agency. Certified Interpreting seeks to hire the most qualified and appropriate interpreter for a given situation. We stand behind our service and will be there when the need arises.
