Frontier

Definitely a favorite! Always a great choice to grab a drink or for a nice dinner! The mussels are amazing and they have such a great beer selection! Great atmosphere, always my go-​to place for a date night!

Delicious! 4 stars because it’s a little pricey and the crowd is a little pretentious. However, the staff is very nice. I’m a fan of the Caesar salad and fish and chips. Superb!

This is our first dinner at Frontier. This restaurant is unique in that there is a small theater within; music and movies are offered at reasonable prices throughout the week. The location is in a long retired mill now called Fort Andross, and the dining room/​bar is a pleasant mix of wood, iron, artwork, and candles, very appealing.
Pros: the appetizer of the squash fritters was considered delicious by both of us. The black bean arugula soup was good and hardy but a bit bland. My husband’s entrée was rigatoni bolognese; he is a fan of the bolognese sauce and according to him it did not disappoint. And, so important to me… the coffee was very good.
Also a note on the little theater… we had come to see The Ghosts of Johnson City and they were fabulous! When we come back for the music, we now know that we can grab food & drinks from the restaurant and enjoy at our seats while enjoying the show… I love that idea.
Cons: after I agonized what to order, I finally decided on the large salad nicoise, which, to my disappointment turned out to be just a massively overpriced salad. It was supposed to have roasted brussel sprouts which seemed to be missing, when I mentioned this to our waitress she informed me that a brussel sprout was «shaved» across the top… what a rip off! So all the salad amounted to was about an ounce of salmon, one hard boiled egg, two small potatoes cut in half, a one shaved brussel sprout, hardly worth the $ 17 price tag. Our server was friendly but service was fair, since we were almost through our meal when she visited us again.
We are definitely coming back for the music!

We’ve been here a few times on our trips to Maine. The food is consistently delicious. Lots of fresh approaches to old classics and something for every dietary need. The craft cocktail and beer selection are excellent and so is the service.

Frontier is the kind of cool, unique place that really adds to a town. We visited on a Thursday night and was pleasd to see a nice crowd. We sat at the bar and had the Grilled Caesar salad and the Frontier sliders, both great. Though small, it was one of the tastiest burger I ever had. We stayed for the 8pm movie in the screening room and found out that you can bring your food in with you. Next time we’ll do dinner and the show together. Nice local beer selection. I suggest the Bissel Brother’s.

What a cool little gem of a place! Very nice atmosphere in the back of the fort Andross mill building. Comfortable, casual, and hip. Pasta Bolognese was excellent, our service was great and our waitress was attentive. Would be a great place to meet up with friends on the weekend for drinks and lunch. The only teeny tiny negative for this place would be the fact that it’s not visible from the street. You have to kind of walk through the building before you get to it… But it’s well worth the trip!

Frontier is a fun spot to take a large group. The beer list alone is reason to come. So many wonderful local Maine brew options. The venue is large and a bit noisy, but lots of fun. We had a group of 7 and ended up in a side room at the end of their dining area so it was much quieter than I expected. The grilled caesar salad was very good. We also enjoyed trying two different types of mussels for appetizers — one with chorizo and one with curry. For the main dish, our group either had steak or fish, or both! I had the fish taco and the steak taco, both of which were full of flavor. The fish sandwich was huge and very tasty as well. The steak dish came in a bowl and was very good as well. We did not have room for dessert, but enjoyed every moment we were there. The service was good and everyone around us seemed to be having a good time as well.

3.65 stars. the setting, the view & the vibe are great! I appreciate the seasonality of the menu, the nod to local sustainable deliciousness on a plate. but it lacked a liiiiiiittle something. the risotto was a little dry, couldn’t even taste the fennel & normally fennel hits your tongue like a semi truck. the tacos were served on mediocre hard shell tacos & mealy arugula. the chefs definitely need to kick it up a notch to keep up with the rad drink & beer menu, the excellent service & laid back but chic ambiance.

Very unique place, but incredibly awesome! Atmosphere, food, and service were top notch and they had an excellent selection of beers, wine and drinks! Getting into the place is slightly confusing, but worth the trip!

Somewhat mysteriously located in the back of the Fort Andros mill building, one must go in the right-​hand door and wind one’s way through to the restaurant. There is a beautiful view of the dam and water spilling over it. The food is good, youngsters seem to enjoy the childs’ menu, the service is fact and efficient. Occupies the middle ground between good diner food and more creative local food items. You can’t go wrong.

Frontier is a special destination. The food is amazing, but what really seals the deal is the cool location. The pictures in these reviews unfortunately don’t do it justice. If you are visiting Brunswick you HAVE to eat here (at least once). Find it, its a quarter mile down the street from «downtown».

Food — very good. Fresh. Cooked with care. Unique.
Service — very good.
Ambiance — bright, clean, hip, casual, spacious.
Noise — fine.
Drink choices — very good. Staffed bar. Great beers.
Prices — reasonable.
Rice flour on the fish and chips made them some of the crunchiest and best I’ve had. Fries stacked underneath got a bit soggy. Serving the food on bread boards is cute, but maybe not the most practical.

Food was amazing. Drinks were equally impressive.
Fish and pork tacos, fish sandwich, grilled Caesar, and the sweet potato fries were what we ordered. I could’ve drank 6 Rita Hayworths… but I reluctantly stuck to two. So good! I’m not a Bloody Mary guy, but the wife got one and I must say it was delicious. Rock on Frontier!
We’re visiting from South Florida, but I can see where there’s a certain hipster vibe that can put some people off if you’re not used to that in Brunswick… Portland yes… Brunswick…uh not so much.

Localvore cuisine and artisan cocktails in a historic mill building make the Frontier well worth a visit to Brunswick. The adjacent cinema looks interesting, but timing is key with limited seating. No reservations, but large capacity for groups of all sizes.

Frontier has a fun/​hip atmosphere it’s in a big space with high ceilings and a nice view. They have a theatre in the restaurant that has music and films play so before you go check out their schedule — you may want to plan out catching a movie or some live music to go along with your meal.
Their menu has a lot of unique dishes and a lot of healthy eating options including a number of vegetarian and vegan dishes.
It’s a pretty social setting and atmosphere so it’s a good place to check out with a group of friends.
As soon as I left I was already looking forward to going back!

Locally-​sourced foods… beers/wines…MOVIES? OKAY!
While this is all great, Frontier just isn’t my first choice. Yes, everything is delicious, but it’s quite pricey… and I love supporting local, but even here, I looked at the menu prices and went, «Really? For a sandwich?»
For example: Their mozz panino is pretty simple: Fresh mozzarella, spinach, basil pesto and tomato on herbed focaccia. … it’s about $ 13… and it’s not really that impressive in it’s size, IMO.
(And while I do appreciate their proper usage of the Italian word «panino» and not calling it a «panini» which is 2+ sandwiches… $ 13 for that? Nope)
But: They do show the Oscar-​nominated shorts & movies that aren’t shown at Evening Star/​Regal and for competitive pricing.
If you’re going out for a fancy date night, then sure! Frontier would be spectacular… but if you’re just looking to grab a bite, save your money & get something just as delicious somewhere else in town.

Frontier is beautiful! What a great space. We had dinner here the other night and loved it. I had a wonderful meal and their menu is very inventive. The high beams and wood /​rustic interior is perfect for a winter date night.
I had some sort of apple cocktail with rose syrup. Delicious and boozy. I ordered the special for my dinner — sumac crusted chicken with fried falafel bits on the side in a rosewater and yogurt sauce + pickled fennel and mint salad. It was definitely inventive and interested flavors. I’m not sure I would order it again but I didn’t regret ordering it.
My other half got the Remember the Maine cocktail which I ended up polishing off, and the fish and chips with sweet potato fries. The fish and chips are a hit and I recommend them. They had some other great items on their menu that I’d love to try. Can’t wait to come back to Frontier. The service was good and they host local musicians all the time!
TIP: Park in the back of the mill — that’s the closest entrance. We made the mistake of parking up by the Antique store!

Walked in and walked out. Seemed very over priced due to my guess is making up for a low visibility and a bad location. The only thing we ordered was a diet Pepsi and an unsweetened ice tea. When they brought a can of soda out with a brand I have never seen and it tasted more like cinnamon than cola I was already disappointed. Looked over the menu and realizing I can get the same thing down the street at a fraction of the cost. I’m shocked to see all the 5 star reviews for this place but not my cup of tea.

I can’t say enough good things about Frontier. The food is amazing, the drinks are always inventive and tasty, and the staff always seems helpful. I make the trip from Auburn to Brunswick about once a month, just to go to Frontier. If that is any indication on how much I love this place.
The atmosphere is comfortable and creative, rustic but classy too (albeit a bit on the hipster side). The rotating art is always top notch and the theatre is such an amazing idea.
I have never had a disappointing meal. In fact, some of the best things I have eaten have been at Frontier. I strongly urge you to ask what their daily soup is, they are often unique but extremely delicious.
I can’t say anything bad about Frontier. Go try them! I will be back soon… I still have to try their board options.

We really enjoyed our food here. It’s located in an old restored mill. The décor was rustic chic. Lots of tables, high and low tops. Very nice bar. The menu had lots of interesting choices. So many things looked good. I got a cup of gazpacho soup to start and for entrée I had a grilled radicchio and spinach salad with chèvre cheese, pinenuts, apricots, onion and other veggies. Delicious.
My only complaint is it is difficult to find.
