Description

Specialties

We consider ourself an art café. Specializing in soup, salad, sandwiches, hand tossed pizzas and pastries. We support all things local. Local food, local coffee, local music, local art, local beer and local wine. We make a large majority of our food in house from scratch. All of our dressings and mayos, as well as most of our bread and pastries are made in house daily. We house an art gallery and live music venue. The mission of the gallery is to create awareness of the local art of the Brazos Valley and to give all forms of art a stage to be enjoyed as a community. New shows are typically debuted monthly, when downtown businesses host «First Friday.» Each art opening is accompanied with a live music act and cuisine from the Village Café. The personality of the space is classic contemporary meets historic downtown. Our café tables combined with our soft seating create the perfect environment for socializing. The permanent mural and rotating art exhibits provide a great base for conversations and a warm environment. The ever-changing art brings new life to the space monthly. You support us, we support them, they support you…

History

Established in 2008.

The Village was built by the community in the fall of 2008. Wonderful individuals who wanted a place to come together to make a difference volunteered with paint brushes, sweat and love to transform a space and support each other. The Village is supported and grows on the back of the citizens of Bryan.

Meet the Business Owner

Kristy P.

Business Owner

Kristy Petty sought to combine her love for art with her career. She earned a communications degree from Texas A&M University in 1998. She managed businesses and sold advertising over the next 10 years while gathering skills to open her own business. «Jumping off a cliff» as she describes it, Kristy set out to open an art café. On November 7, 2008, Art979 Gallery and the Village Café opened their doors. The mission of the gallery is to create awareness of the Brazos Valley’s local art and to provide a stage for all forms of art to be enjoyed as a community. Local food, local music, and local art are the staples of her business plan. New art shows are debuted monthly to coincide and add to the local Downtown Bryan First Friday. Since opening the gallery, she has housed the works of over 60 local artists including college students, amateur photographers and grade school artists. Kristy’s goal is to put Downtown Bryan on the map as an art destination for both artist’s and art lovers.
