Western Beverages

If you’re going here, it’s because you’re a regular. I make the distinction because the average consumer may not see this location as having a particularly varied selection. I have found that is the case especially with their beer, most of which is domestic with even fewer local breweries carried. The bulk of their selection is in grain alcohols, so you’re going to be pleased by what they have on hand… particularly bourbons and scotches.

I agree with Ed here about the slim selection of beer. Way back when I actually did find Paulaner Hefe-​Weizen (from Germany) here. Yet the last time I checked they were out or did not stock it any more. Their cooler isn’t very large so that could contribute to their limited variety. But I think there is more to it…
See, the further away you get from College Station, and more into Bryan, the beer quality goes down progressively. A good example is to take a look at the selection at the Western Beverage way down Texas in the Wal-​Mart center (south College Station). Fairly good selection. Then get close to the college and the Western Beverage on University has the best selection of beers second only to Specs. Awesome store with top notch service every time. Then look at the Western Beverage across the street from the Bryan Wal-​Mart (next to GNC). NO IMPORTED beer –At All!-. In fact there, they sell single cans of crap like Coors, Bud, Busch…
Amazing what you can learn about demographics, just by comparing beer selections at Western Beverage locations alone… :)

This Western Beverages is next to T. Jin China Diner #2 in the strip mall anchored by the Kroger Signature just south of the Première Cinemas.
This is a much smaller location than their Univ. Dr. location. Their beer cooler was smaller than that at some convenience stores. They made a better effort at liquor, but still smaller than J.J.‘s on Tx. Ave., and equivalent to both sides of one aisle at Spec’s (itself one of the smaller stores in the chain).
