Daly Angkor

Nice setting for a quick meal. Ginger chicken was fresh and quite tasty. Spring roll were not worth bothering with. The service was very friendly but not especially fast, which is okay. I would return there for a meal before movies across the street at the Bala cinemas.

We just got back from the worst dining experience I’ve had in Bryn Mawr. We ordered the dinner for two. The waiter informed us that they are out of lettuce, which makes any of their salads impossible. The soup, which was“chef’s choice” and not explained to us when it arrived, was tasteless. Looked like boiled chicken and scallions. The entrees, chicken five-​spice (supposedly, but the waiter said it was curry, corrected himself, but it tasted a lot like curry) and lemongrass beef, were composed of summer squash and grated carrots. I could have made it at home. I was so frustrated that we skipped the included dessert and coffee. Which is fine, because they were also out of ice cream. If I were running this place, I would send someone to the Acme or Mom’s and pick up some lettuce and ice cream. Come on, you’re running a business! It’s Friday night!
We were hoping, based on better recent reviews, that this place would be be a good addition to the Bryn Mawr restaurant scene. I felt sorry for the incompetent teenage waiter who had no idea what the dishes were and had to keep repeating that they were out of lettuce. There weren’t many people there tonight and the grumbling people who were in there (including us) won’t be coming back.

Really want to give the place 2.5 stars really, only raised it to 3 because of the service, where our waiter was responsive and did try to help.
I will be the first to admit I know little to nothing about Cambodian food and the only thing I can compare it to is Vietnamese (where I am also not an expert), but overall I thought the soup was a little bland and could use some extra flavor (not just spice necessarily).
It was a large bowl of soup, noodles, vegetables and meat (in order of declining prevalence). I had requested the beef ribeye & beef meatball soup, my companion ordered the «deluxe» with beef ribeye, beef meatball and shrimp. More than a few minutes later the waiter advised that they were out of meatballs. We both looked at the menu and I couldn’t come with a different entrée, so I said just double-​up the rib-​eye portion and my companion did the same. We ultimately got a big bowl of soup, noodles and vegetables with a few strips of ribeye, which I thought was light even if this was just the beef ribeye noodle soup, even though this was supposed to be the plussed-​up version. I did inquire with the waiter if the chef had actually added the extra to plus it up, and he said yes he did. Although at bill time, he said there was miscommunication with the chef and that they didnt charge us for the extra meatball version, just the basic ribeye version. Shrimps in my dinner companion’s deluxe soup seemed few and far between too.
Our appetizers were hit and miss. The butterfly dumpling-​like appetizer was just too dough-​y, I am not sure if that is their standard dough for that dumpling, but the filling would have been better served by a thinner wonton wrap like they use in «shrimp purses». The spring roll was hot and excellent, a tad steep at $ 5 for 2 rolls, but great overall with a little sweet sauce and some spicy sriacha-​chilli sauce. Might call and ask for take out spring rolls someday if driving in the area.

Bori, the owner is the best hostess. She always gives us great recommendations on dishes. This restaurant has a more personal atmosphere and great food. The sweet ribs are to die for. Look no further for an authentic Cambodian dining experience.

The Shrimp Curry was out of this world, fresh and had the perfect amount of kick. As I was leaving the owner/​chef gifted my girlfriend and myself a Thai pepper-​plant!
If you are in the Bryn Mawr area this is a must stop.

I haven’t Unilocaled in awhile, but after eating here a few times and reading some of the reviews, I feel compelled to write. Khmer restaurants are few and far between in the area. As a Cambodian, I’ve spent many hours searching online for something — anything — that might resemble my mother’s cooking. One glorious day, Daly Angkor came up in one of those searches.
The restaurant is located on Lancaster Ave., right on the main strip. It’s easy to miss driving by but not hard to find on foot. For parking, there are meters right out front and street parking in the neighborhood.
The interior of the restaurant is on the smaller side, with seating for approximately 50+ people. There are two seating options: regular dining tables and traditional floor dining. It’s a good place to go for a low-​key meal, on a date or with friends and family. It’s definitely not a scene.
Typically, the food is AMAZING!!! The flavors are a little different than what I’m used to at home, but it’s subtle and sophisticated and worthy of praise. However, I will say, I’ve been there once when the owner wasn’t there, and sadly, the food was mediocre. I’m not sure what that was about, but I WOULD RECOMMEND DINING THERE WHEN THE OWNER IS IN. I’m pretty sure she’s usually there most of the time. She’s a very friendly and welcoming woman, and she’s always happy to make suggestions and modifications, if she can.
Some tasty dishes: Somlaw Machu Yourn Soup (off-​menu), Jungle Shrimp, Lemongrass Beef with Pickled Mustard Greens, Fried Fish with Young Mango, Pineapple Chicken, and if you’re daring, Prohouk Khteas (off-​menu).
I am a huge fan of this place. I’ve been here 3 times already in the past few months, and I live in Philly and I don’t have a car, which should tell you how amazing this place is. If you’re craving Khmer food or interested in trying it for the first time, I would suggest giving this place a shot.

I had an excellent experience tonight. I ordered five spice shrimp. It came with a delicious mixture of vegetables and a wonderful sauce. While I am used to various southeast Asia cuisines, this was Cambodian and was new to me. It was everything I look for in a new cuisine: different yet delicious.
The owner could not have been more helpful nor accommodating. My every need was looked after regarding this meal.

If Unilocal allowed half stars this would be 3.5 stars, but I’ve bumped it up to 4 because of an awesome owner who was happy to chat Cambodian cuisine with us.
I’ve traveled a bit in Cambodia before and I occasionally get a hankering for their cuisine, so I was pretty stoked to come back and try some proper Cambodian food here in the states.
The first plus: they have thai sofas in the back so that you can stretch out and eat. If you’ve never eaten on a thai sofa before, it is amazing and you should absolutely do it. Relaxing while dining is the best invention ever.
As for the food, it had a couple of low notes, but many more high notes. We started off with a salad and some of the summer rolls. The salad drew rave reviews from both of my parents, although I never tried it. My summer rolls were okay, I felt like I could have done with a little less lettuce and a little more noodles, but that could be a personal thing.
On the other hand, our main courses were pretty much universal winners. My mom got the fish amok and shrimp jungle (which had been recommended), I got the beef lok lak, and my dad got a fish curry.
Pretty much all of it was excellent, with particular high marks for the shrimp jungle and the fish amok. My lok lak had excellent flavor, but the meat was a bit on the tough side. In spite of that, we were pretty much satisfied across the board with our food. This may have been because we ordered from the Cambodian specials menu instead of the normal menu, which seemed to contain a potpourri of Southeast Asian dishes.
The only real problem we had was the service, which was slow. I imagine that’s because it’s a family place where the staff is the family rather than professional kitchen/​wait staff. They were super friendly and helpful, just not the fastest.
Speed aside, our experience at Daly Angkor was fantastic. If you’re looking for something exotic or just some delicious food this BYO is definitely worth checking out.

Came here on a Saturday afternoon with another family (all with kids), we were all pleasantly surprised by how delicious the food was.
We ordered from the Chef’s special menu. Those items are a bit pricier but well worth it. We had Fish Amok, Shrimp Jungle, both were very very good, I mean not just good, but very good.
We also had a curry dish, chicken and pineapple and several noodle soup for the children. The curry was very flavorful (special mix by the chef), the noodle soups was very delicious (note: IT IS NOT A PHO!), it has a good broth with tons of fresh vegetables.
The service was friendly and genuine, We all loved this place, and will definitely visit again!

From the last time I’ve been there, I must say there were tremendous improvements. The décor and menu has improved. They have delicious authentic Cambodian food listed on chiefs special. I love their Pahok Ktiss. It isn’t on the menu, but I know this Cambodian dish and it’s one of my all time favorites. I always ask her to make that for me and every single time, it never fails to be soooo good. I really love that the chief tries her best to make the dishes that you want. She also have this new «rice pudding» dessert. DELICIOUS !! It isn’t your typical rice pudding at a Chinese buffet. A must try! Ask for a sample, she will definitely let you try before ordering. :)

I ordered the phở and seafood soup, it cost 25 dollars, the phở was horrible it was not even the soup just noodles, the seafood soup just had vegetables and two shrimp, this place does not make good food, they need a new chef or something.

I’m really surprised by some of these negative reviews. I found the soup broths delicate, the summer rolls refreshing, and the spice levels just right. The owner and her daughter were engaging and helpful, willing to accommodate my uncle’s request for an off-​menu specialty. Give Daly Angkor a chance. You’ll be glad you did.

Oh what a pleasant surprise this was! Completely empty when we walked in, but so worth it. Excellent food, just-​right portions, pleasant staff and great atmosphere (except the plastic palm tree).

Was very excited to see Cambodian restaurant in Bryn Mawr… I hope they can pull this off. Service was great, very attentive (almost too attentive).
Food was fine… did not blow us away but did not turn us off either. A little more creativity and variety in the appetizer section would be nice. Also, try not obe all things to all people… are you a thai restaurant, a vietnamese restaurant or a cambodian restaurant?
Bottom line. we would go back, but we would not drag friends there with an OMG you have to try this place. I hope to be able to say that soon!

I feel bad leaving a negative review because the service was so warm and friendly. The food was completely unremarkable. I ordered Lok Lok (spelling?) which was beef in a brown sauce on a bed of lettuce with cucumbers, tomatoes and rice on the side. It was too heavily salted for my taste and frankly reminded me of my mom’s attempt at pepper steak back in the 70’s. So two stars for the food and five stars for the incredibly warm and friendly waitress who served me.

I’ve had better.
I was really excited when this place opened. If nothing else, I figured I would be ordering Phở here during the winter on the way home from work. Unfortunately, the Phở is the worst I’ve ever had. It’s been a month or so since we went, but out of four dishes at the table, there was only one that was good, but I don’t remember now what it was we liked. Definitely not the Phở. The service wasn’t very good either. Sadly another restaurant within walking distance that I won’t be returning to.

The latest sensation on the Mainline is a Cambodian restaurant! Nice place with good food and a traditional approach to cooking. There is even a low seating area at the front of the restaurant.

The freshness of my food and entertaining my vegetarianism has made me a fan. Brilliant delicious food.
The service was slow but I could see she was trying and I loved how the chef accomodated by preference.
She made me a vege Phở excellent and my daughter had noodles or kids and she loved it. Will come again.

I was a bit surprised at the price list… It wasn’t exactly cheap (which is what I expected) but we wanted to try Cambodian food. the interior was quiet and simple… It was so peaceful that it kind of scared me… They need to redecorate the inside… Do something! And the food was just mediocre. I tried their phở with beef and the noodles were too soft and the broth was a bit sour, my mom’s rice with shrimp and ginger was ok… She didnt really enjoy it… I did enjoy the tapioca dessert and I do admire the mother– daughters trio working together on their family business but I don’t think I will come back here.

I was so excited to hear about a Cambodia restaurant opening in Bryn Mawr. I went there for lunch with 2 girlfriends and was VERY disappointed. The staff was not trained and the food was subpar. I had the shrimp with curry which I had ordered very spicy. The dish came out with chickpeas which I don’t think is native to Cambodia cuisine. It was not spicy at all and the flavor was very bland. My friend had the shrimp with vegetables and she couldn’t finish it because it was so over saturated with oyster sauce and therefore too salty! I read on Patch that the owner’s culinary training was that she cooked with her family. Obviously, she over estimated her skills in the kitchen. When I walked to the restroom, I saw a tall freezer open, full of frozen entrees which leaves me thinking. The TV on the wall playing daytime soap opera was strange as well.
Unfortunately, I will give this restaurant 6 months to survive.
