History

Established in 1980.

Opened in 1980 in the historic Bradley Block building on the corner of Main and Central. First year round restaurant north of Portland to specialize in fresh fish, first to enroll in Certified Angus Beef program. Recipes sought by Bön Apetit, Cuisine, Gourmet. Specializing in comfort food and authentic hospitality.

Meet the Business Owner

George M.

Business Owner

George worked in restaurants from New York to New Orleans before settling in Maine and meeting his wife Katie, whose cooking talents quickly helped the restaurant establish a following. George has always had an a keen interest in community development. Prior to opening the restaurant, he worked as a consulting land use planner, and he has always been a leader in community development projects. He co-​founded the Bay Area Chamber of Commerce, served on the boards of numerous schools, hospitals, and volunteer organizations. He organized and led the 5 year campaign to save Fort Knox, Maines most-​visited state historic site. In 1995, he brought international attention to MacLeods by initiating an innovative program to fund employee health insurance, a program that was publicized on the front page of the Wall Street Journal.

Katherine left the restaurant to raise the couple’s four children and earn her masters degree in counseling. She is currently a guidance counselor at Bucksport High.
