American First Credit Union

I am highly disappointed with the progressive decline in customer service of this company. My husband and I have been customers with American First for at least 20 years. Not only do they now charge for «paper statements» but when we called today to have money transferred from our savings account at American to a checking account at another institution they said that was not possible. My husband asked «why?» They automatically withdrawal our mortgage payment from this same checking account at the other institution every month for the last 16 years and put the money into the same saving account at American in order to complete the mortgage transaction. The representative on the phone said it is a «one way street.» The representative said they could mail a check but it would take 7 to 10 business days. After my husband nicely pressed the issue, the rep offered another «sister» credit union that was much closer to our home where we could take out the money we needed same day in check form to walk in the deposit at the other institution. He was told there would be a one time «no charge» for this transaction. However, when he went in to complete the transaction at the sister branch they did in fact charge $ 5 to receive a check from our account of our own money. In this day when most everything is handled electronically the entire situation was inconvenient, and quite frankly non compassionate. The whole reason we needed the money transferred in the first place is because I just had a hip replacement on Thursday and there are medical bills that need to be paid. So in order to get our own savings money we had to use our gas, our time, and our $ 5 to do so. Yet, there will be no problems when American First automatically withdrawals the mortgage money come the end of this month between those two same accounts. Interesting.

I have been with AFCU for 25 years now and have never applied for a loan with them. I will definitely go back to them for all my loan needs.

What a great credit union!!! Not only is the staff extremely knowledgeable and friendly, they have the best rates in the county!!! I will tell all my friends and family about this credit union! All you need to do is live, work or worship in Orange County and boom you could be a member!!!

Rudy was very great & helpful with all my customer service needs! He is an outstanding employee that has a great deal of knowledge and is willing to go the extra mile!

I have been a member of AFCU for 21 years now and have always had satisfactory service from them. Mark in the home loan dept. was awesome! I don’t think they treated him very well which is probably why he left. However back to my situation, I have never found the employees at this branch in Buena Park to be very friendly or helpful, but I tolerated that, but when they turned me away after I had come a long distance and was rushing like crazy to get there because I was literally 10 seconds after 5:00 this was the ultimate discourtesy to me. How can they treat good customers who put all their hard earned money in their bank like that? They were not the least bit apologetic either! They will continue this behavior unless we speak out about it!

This place is terrible… service totaly blows. I use this spot because they are a CU Service center… You cant make a DEPOSIT without ID… makes no sense to me… but ok, rules are rules… I went in with my ID that had the expiration date year hole punched as I changed my address and the DMV punches a hole and gives you a temporary along with your photo. THEY WOULDNT TAKE IT!
Our ID rules are very strict… dude, Im makin a freaking deposit! I have my ID and the paperwork from the DMV… sorry sir we cant accept it.
Are you saying that the person in this ID isnt me? No, its you, we just cant accept your deposit.
So then I simply asked them to exchange my $ 1s $ 5s and $ 20s into large bills and I will just deposit them in the ATM (I had a bunch because I bartend)… SORRY SIR, CANT DO THAT EITHER! AHHHHHHHHH GO F YOURSELVES!
The home loan guy Mark is cool though. he’s the only reason they got 2 stars…

No bank or checking fees, I got a great new car loan, a personal loan, and a money market savings account with them. Any time you call, you don’t have to wait long to speak to a real person that works at one of the branches. There’s a security guard on duty.
